9 1. Before You Begin 1.1 Planning and design guidelines FDM Express is an on-the-go version of Field Device Manager designed for use in the maintenance shop and suitable for installation in a Win 7 laptop or desktop PC. It is important that you plan the installation of FDM Express, so please refer to EP , Field Device Manager Express Specifications, for information on PC hardware, PC operating system, and peripheral requirements. Also, refer to the specifications for details about performance and operational limits and to decide upon the number of tag licenses you need. Up to 1000 tags are supported by FDM Express. FDM server installation includes installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Service Pack1. As a result, FDM server installation takes considerable time. 1.2 Installation components and requirements Package information Component Software Media Software Media FDM R430 setup software Field Device Manager Software R430.1 DVD 1 Type DVD Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 FDM Express License Field Device Manager Software R430.1 DVD 2 Field Device Manager License CD R430.1 DVD CD FDM Express installation components FDM Express installation supports the following components. FDM Server: FDM Server forms the core of FDM application. It manages the FDM client and interacts with HART and PROFIBUS devices through the Remote Communication Interface (RCI). It stores all persistent information related to the R430 Field Device Manager Express Express Software Installation User's Guide 9 June 2012 Honeywell
10 1. Before You Begin 1.2. Installation components and requirements devices, networks, and FDM users. For FDM Express Server installation, FDM Client and RCI are required and they are automatically selected and installed during the installation. FDM Client: FDM client is the user interface component of the FDM application. The client enables you to connect-to FDM Server and performs various functionalities supported by FDM. FDM RCI: Remote Communication Interface (RCI) is the component in FDM that manages the interaction with devices connected to the communication interfaces. It is also included in the FDM Express installation. The following table lists the communication interfaces and the respective device which can be connected. Communication Interfaces Devices HART Profibus RS-232 HART Modem Supported Not applicable RS-485 HART Multiplexer Supported Not applicable Communication/Gateway DTMs Supported Supported The FDM RCI is installed in FDM Express Server. License information Mux Monitoring Solution: This component, available with the full FDM product, is not available with FDM Express. FDM HART Multiplexer: This component, also available with the full FDM product, is not available with FDM Express Station Maintenance View: This option is only used with Experion for the full FDM product. It is not available with FDM Express. An FDM Express license upgrade is a requirement for the software to function. The Server Management Tool provides the functionality to manage the license for FDM. Using the Licensing option, you can upgrade (install) the provided FDM Express license. After installing of FDM, ensure to upgrade FDM with the provided license. 10 Field Device Manager Express Express Software Installation User's Guide R430 Honeywell June 2012
