2 Monitoring relays, timer relays, function blocks The requirements pertaining to safety and system availability are constantly increasing regardless of the industry. Processes are becoming more and more complex, not only in mechanical engineering and the chemical industry but also in plant and automation technology. The requirements for power engineering are also constantly on the rise. A trouble-free and thus cost-effective operation can be achieved only with continuous monitoring of significant network and system parameters. Electronic monitoring relays of the EMD series are available for a wide variety of monitoring tasks to avoid the consequences of errors or to keep them within limits. The operating states are signaled using cololed reds, and errors that may occur can be sent to a controller through a floating contact or can switch off a section of the system. Some device versions are equipped with startup and response delays in order to briefly tolerate measured values outside the set monitoring range. The compact timer relays in the narrow 6.2 mm housing or multi-functional timer relays can be used in order to control time sequences in production and process technology. Timer relays Compact timer relays in the narrow 6.2 mm housing with an adjustable time range and a function as well as multifunction timer relays are available. Function blocks In the function blocks, simple functions down to the component level are packaged for industrial use and provided with professional connection technology. The voltage monitoring device EMD-SL- 3V-400-N monitors the voltage of the individual phases in the three-phase 400 V system for overvoltage or undervoltage in relation to the neutral conductor. 7 Electronic monitoring relay Voltage indication modules Correct invoicing on the basis of a measuring instrument is guaranteed only if the three phases,, and are available. The voltage indicating modules IEG-45-3LA/.../21 are used for monitoring, for example on a tariff changing board. These modules indicate all three phases with highaccuracy reading even in case of reverse voltages. These modules also have a floating PDT contact, thereby offering the convenience of voltage monitoring through remote querying. 9 Electronic monitoring relay Temperature monitoring (motor winding) The monitoring relay EMD-SL-PTC monitors the motor winding temperatures by means of PTC (PTC thermistor resistance) as per DIN If the PTC total resistance is less than 3.6 kω (normal temperature of the motor) when the supply voltage is applied, the output relay picks up. If the total resistance rises above 3.6 kω (at least one of the PTCs has reached the nominal switch-off temperature), the output relay drops out. The output relay picks up again when the total resistance has dropped below 1.8 kω again after the PTC has cooled down, and either an internal or external reset button has been pressed or the power supply interrupted.
