3 1. Introduction This is the Sales Introduction to the SAILOR SP3550 Portable UHF. It is an addendum to the Sales Introduction to the SAILOR SP3500 Portable Series dated February 2007, when the series where launched. Thrane & Thrane expand its SAILOR SP3500 Portable Series with a new stylish handheld UHF radio. Efficient on board communication is vital for the daily operation on board any vessel today. The crews on board modern vessels are getting smaller and the requirements for efficient on board communication is growing fast. Thrane & Thrane brings a new product to the market which will help you optimize on board safety and insure that vital information is being easily shared among your vessel crew members. The SAILOR SP3550 is the first UHF radio in the world developed especially for use on the high seas with the professional seaman in mind. Target Vessels The SAILOR SP3550 may be useful for on board communication on any vessel for some vessels it is even more useful than others. Many ship owners consider UHF ideal for on board communication on larger vessels. The reason is that the radio waves (wave length 10 cm) penetrates the constructions and covers the vessel in a different way that VHF waves (wave length 1 meter), and that the maritime VHF cannels can be very busy in waters with heavy traffic and in harbours. 5 4. The Complete Package When ordering a SAILOR SP3550 you will receive a complete package with everything you need. Just as you will with the rest of the products in the SAILOR SP3500 series. The FCC approval requires that only the assigned channels are programmed and all other channels are deleted. Distributor selling to the US market has to programme the assigned channels and at the same time delete the channels which have not been assigned. 5. Accessories The accessories for the SAILOR SP3500 series can be used for all versions, including SAILOR SP3550. Please note, that not all accessories can be used for the upcoming ATEX versions. In addition to already launched accessories, a new soft carrying case is launched as well as a new dual charger kit.
