1 MANUFACTURER S DATA SECTION OF ROTORCRAFT FLIGHT MANUAL SUPPLEMENT TO THE SIKORSKY S-76A ROTORCRAFT FLIGHT MANUAL Aircraft Serial Number: Aircraft Registration Number: This supplement must be attached to the rotorcraft flight manual, manufacturer s data section when the aircraft is modified by the installation of Helifab s transponder installation with ADS-B out, in accordance with supplemental type certificate(stc) number SR09644RC The information contained herein supplements or supersedes the basic flight manual only in those areas contained herein. For limitations, procedures, and performance information not contained in this supplement, consult the basic rotorcraft flight manual. Page 1 of 6

4 SECTION I: SYSTEM DESCRIPTION GENERAL System Description (see next page) The Helifab transponder installation with ADS-B out capability is compliant with 14CFR , DO-260B, and uses the 1090ES link system. The system is comprised of a Trig TC22 mode A, C and S transponder with ADS-B out functionality, Trig TC20 transponder controller (see figure 1) mounted in the instrument panel, transponder antenna, WAAS/GPS antenna mounted to the top of the vertical fin, and WAAS/GPS sensor mounted in the tailboom at approximately STA 340. The TC20 controller includes an altitude encoder that is connected to the aircraft static system (pilot s). Dimming for the TC 20 controller is provided by the existing pilot flight instrument dimmer. The system utilizes two circuit breakers (one for the transponder and one for the WASS/GPS sensor) located in the lower broom closet circuit breaker panel (Essential Bus). The transponder is tied into the squat switch and will automatically switch from airborne to ground mode when the weight on wheels switch is activated. When in ground mode, the transponder will only reply to mode S ground interrogations from surface movement radar. The transponder will automatically switch from ground mode to airborne mode when the weight on wheels switch is deactivated. 5 TC20 Controller Display and Functions The display shows the operating mode of the transponder, the reported pressure altitude, and the current squawk code and Flight ID. The reply indicator is active when the transponder replies to interrogations. The pressure altitude is displayed as a Flight Level, which is the pressure altitude in hundreds of feet. When non-standard atmospheric conditions apply, this may not match the altimeter indicated altitude, but will be correctly displayed by the ATC radar. The mode knob controls the power to the transponder and the operating mode. The mode knob functions are defined below. OFF : Power is removed from the transponder SBY: The transponder is on but will not reply to any interrogations. GND: The transponder will respond to mode S ground interrogations from surface movement radar. ON: The transponder will respond to all interrogations, but altitude reporting is suppressed. ALT: The transponder will respond to all interrogations with altitude reporting enabled (The ALT position is the normal operating mode). The code knob is used to change the flight ID and squawk codes. The function is as follows. The right hand knob is used to set squawk codes and the Flight ID. The FN button selects which will be updated. Turning the knob will highlight the first digit on the display, and the digit can be changed as required. Press the ENT button to advance to the next digit. When ENT is pressed on the last digit, the new squawk code or Flight ID will replace the previous value. If the code entry is not completed within 7 seconds, the changes are ignored and the previous code restored. The push buttons perform the following functions. IDT: Press the IDT button when ATC instructs you to Ident or Squawk Ident. This activates the SPI pulse in the transponder replies for 18 seconds. IDT will appear in the display. FN: Pressing the FUNC button provides access to changing the Flight ID and the ADS-B position monitor (depending on installation). VFR: Pressing the VFR button sets the transponder to the pre-programmed conspicuity code. Pressing the button again restores the previous squawk code. ENT: The ENT button enters a digit in the code selector or clears a warning message. If an error or fault occurs the display will display WARNING or FAULT and a brief statement of the problem. If WARNING is displayed, depending on the nature of the problem, the transponder may not be replying to interrogations. Press ENT to clear the message; if the fault is still present WARNING will reappear. If a FAULT indication is shown, no replies will be made to interrogations. Some FAULT indications can be recovered by switching the transponder off and back on again, although in all cases a FAULT code implies that there is a fault with the transponder or the installation. 6 NOTE When an error has occurred with the transponder installation, a message stating WARNING may be indicated on the TC20 display. These warnings do not require immediate pilot action and are advisory only.
