8 Report of ET-NRST Intercomparison studies for LIDARS have been have been carried, and the results of these studies have been documented. WMO/ISO standard on ground-based remote-sensing of wind by heterodyne pulsed Doppler LIDAR has been prepared and published as ISO document (ISO ). A document has been prepared on Argentinian LIDAR network within the scope of evaluation of operational use of new remote sensing technologies. The chapter in CIMO Guide has been revised to take into account the latest development of 1DVAR assimilation of radiometer data into a numerical weather prediction model. 8

9 Report of ET-NRST The report of the survey conducted on operational use of Passive Microware Profilers has been prepared and submitted to the WMO secretariat. A draft report has been prepared on the uncertainty and traceability of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) measurements. The summary reports from all the assigned Testbeds/Lead Centers have been received and reviewed by ET-NRST. 9

10 Report of ET-NRST Technical and scientific studies have been carried out within the scope of the COST action TOPROF (Towards operational ground based profiling) with ceilometers, doppler lidars and microwave radiometers for improving weather forecasts. Developments are on-going in the various new remote-sensing technologies, such as Doppler LIDAR, water vapour LIDAR and microwave radiometer. New technical methods are available in the market, and field trials have been conducted in these new technologies. 10

11 RECOMMENDATIONS The TBs/LCs should continue to work on the inter-comparison on the new technologies. Standardization of the instruments, similar to Lidar, considered. should be The information obtained on new remote sensing technologies may be posted in the CIMO website for promulgation and when the technology becomes more mature, the relevant information may be added to the IOM report and CIMO Guide. ET-NRST should be kept with new structure and new experts nominated by Members, who can allocate more time for ET activities during next intersessional period. There should be a way to encourage the public and the private enterprises to more actively share the information with ET and the CIMO group in general. 11

13 Report of TL-RFP TL-RFP has provided his contribution, by considering the requirements of observing systems and observations for the frequencies on radio spectrum for the preparation of the WMO position document for the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) to be held in 2019 as WRC-19. The frequency allocations for HF oceanographic radars were agreed at WRC-12 (2012 World Radiocommunication Conference) and the ITU-R published a report on techniques for sharing spectrum between the radars in

15 RECOMMENDATIONS High priority should be given to radio frequency protection issue by CIMO-17 for next intersessional period. Ground-based passive sensors operated in frequency bands used by satellite passive sensing shall encounter interference problem. Information on the technical and operational characteristics, including spectrum requirements, of ground based passive sensors needs to be obtained from CIMO experts and provided to the ITU-R by the SG-RFC. 15

16 RECOMMENDATIONS The bandwidth requirements for Global Radiosonde Operations should be studied in detail, and a report should be prepared for SG-RFC which can use to address WRC-19 Agenda Item 1.7. Wind turbines seem to remain an increasing threats for weather radars and wind profilers. The IPET-OWR will take over the task for wind turbine issues for weather radars, but this important task, in particular for wind profiler radars, should be considered for next intersessional period by CIMO
