5 Introduction This user guide describes the purpose, characteristics, functioning principles, setting up and configuring the RG1000e GATEWAY. This guide is aimed at engineers responsible for the installation and maintenance of SmartPTT dispatch system and the MOTOTRBO equipment. It is assumed that users of this guide who will set up the RG-1000e GATEWAY, are familiar with the following: The principles of building IP networks and radio networks using MOTOTRBO equipment produced by Motorola, and SmartPTT software developed by Elcomplus. You should read this user guide before you start using RG-1000e!!! Improper testing, operation, maintenance, installation, alteration, modification, or adjustment causes warranty cancellation!!!

6 1 System purpose The RG-1000e GATEWAY is used in SmartPTT dispatch systems for remote control of Mototrbo control station(s) or radios through the SmartPTT Radioserver (hereinafter referred to as radioserver) in the corporate IP network or Internet. It is required to use MOTOTRBO Radios: EMEA region DM46**e, DM44**e, DM46**, DM44**, DM2600 ; APAC region XiR M8600i, XiR M8600, XiR M6660 ; NA region XPR 5***e, XPR 5***, XPR 2500 ; LA region DGM 8***e, DGM 5***e, DGM 8***, DGM 5***, DEM500.(*) The RG-1000e GATEWAY provides the conversion of audio signals and radio control commands to IP packets and the transmission of these packets over the network.the usage of the RG-1000e GATEWAY is an alternative to direct connection of control stations to the radioserver via a USB interface. RG-1000e GATEWAYs with firmware R2.2 and later may be used for connection non-mototrbo radios to SmartPTT radioserver. Mobile radios and\or repeaters (analog or digital) are connected to the RG-1000e GATEWAY just using 5 wires: PTT, CSQ, RX Audio, TX Audio and GND. It provides voice exchanging between SmartPTT Dispatchers and talk-groups of non-mototrbo radionetworks. The figures below show the examples of remote control station using an RG-1000e GATEWAY. Fig. 1 MOTOTRBO control stations: remote connection to SmartPTT dispatch system * Note low tier Mototrbo radios DM1400/DM1600, CM200d/CM300d, DEM300/DEM400, XIR M3188/XIR M3688 can not be used with RG-1000e. The 1st generation of Mototrbo radios can not be used with with RG-1000e.

8 2 System structure The system of remote management of the control station consists of the following components: RG-1000e GATEWAY, radio connected to the RG-1000e GATEWAY, and SmartPTT software based on Client Server technology. The RG-1000e GATEWAYs are connected to the SmartPTT server-based application, which manages the RG1000e GATEWAY, and interact with this application. For IP network connection, RG-1000e GATEWAY has the 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX Ethernet interface with auto detection of the cable type. For the interaction between the system components, the RG-1000e GATEWAY and radioserver get a static IP address and the TCP and UDP/RTP port numbers, which are used for the radio control commands and audio transmission from the dispatch console. The RG-1000e GATEWAY can be used in the following cases: As a remote dispatcher's workplace outstation in digital networks without repeaters (Direct Mode communication). In the conventional or trunking MOTOTRBO networks, where the direct IP connection to the repeaters is unavailable. When the connection to the repeaters in MOTOTRBO networks is based on the hybrid scheme, where the data interchange is performed via the NAI interface of the repeaters and the voice data transmission via the pool of the control stations; In the conventional or trunking non-mototrbo networks, using GPIO lines for connection RG-1000e GATEWAYs to control stations and\or repeaters. This system offers the following advantages: It allows you to organize the dispatching system in the networks, where the direct connection of the dispatching system to the MOTOTRBO repeaters via the IP network is unavailable. It allows you not to place radioserver close to the control stations within the radio network coverage area. It allows you to avoid interference and induced noise between neighboring control stations. When planning the system, it is required to take into account the packet delivery delay in the IP network, which causes the corresponding radio response delay to the control commands and voice data transmission.

12 3 Operating principles The simplest system configuration includes the remote RG-1000e GATEWAY with one connected control station, SmartPTT radioserver and the dispatch console. The dispatch console does not interact directly with the RG-1000e GATEWAY. Instead, the dispatch console transmits data and audio to the radioserver, which then transmits them to the RG-1000e GATEWAY. The interaction between the dispatch console and the radioserver is not considered in this document, as it is described in detail in the corresponding SmartPTT software documentation. The operating principle of the RG-1000e GATEWAY is based on the following elements: 1. Receiving and transmitting radio control commands intended for the management of the control station. 2. Receiving and transmitting the audio signals. 3. Transforming the radio control commands and audio signals into the asynchronous flow of digital data. 4. Encoding of the asynchronous flow of digital data and its transmission to the radioserver via IP network. To work through the IP network, the RG-1000e GATEWAY and radioserver must be given static IP addresses. After the connection is made, the IP communication channel is established that provides the transmission of the following data via the UDP protocol: radio control commands between the control station and the radioserver; audio signals from the radio receiver and from the microphone of the dispatch console. The radioserver may host multiple RG-1000e GATEWAY gateways. Their number is limited only by the license conditions or by the technical constraints of the communication channels. To establish the IP communication channels between the RG-1000e GATEWAY and radioserver, the TCP protocol and UDP/RTP protocols are used. The TCP protocol serves to transmit the radio control commands. The RTP protocol is used to transmit audio, registration messages (ARS), short text messages (TMS), etc. To separate the channels on the RG-1000e GATEWAY, each channel is assigned a corresponding IP address and UDP/TCP port number from a range of When the IP channels of the RG-1000e GATEWAY have equal values of IP address and UDP port, the connection is performed in tandem on idle IP channels. To process the signals of the radio audio path, compression is used in the RG-1000e GATEWAY. The built-in compressor receives and transmits audio signals using 64 kbps Mu-Law PCM encoding. Below you will find examples of network topologies and configurations when the RG-1000e GATEWAY and radioserver are connected. The details about how to connect the radioserver to other equipment or to the dispatch console are not shown in the examples. The RG-1000e GATEWAY network interface meets the 10BASE-T (IEEE 802.3) / 100BASE-TX (IEEE 802.3u) specifications and may be connected to external equipment that meets the same network interface specifications. Below you will find examples of network topologies and configurations when the RG-1000e GATEWAY and radioserver are connected. The details about how to connect the radioserver to other equipment or to the dispatch console are not shown in the examples.

13 The Ethernet port can work with both automatic and fixed cable type detection, thus, both a straight-through cable or a crossed Ethernet cable can be used. Both the radioserver and the RG-1000e GATEWAY must have a static IP address. The example of the network configuration for the radioserver and the RG-1000e GATEWAY is shown in the figure below. Fig. 3 Connection of the radioserver to the RG-1000e GATEWAY (single radio) via the local data transm ission netw ork In this example, the radioserver is connected to a single RG-1000e GATEWAY to manage one control station, which is connected to the RADIO interface. Only one configured IP channel is used to transmit data to the radioserver. RG-1000e GATEWAY IP channel 1 is programmed to be linked to the RADIO interface, so that all control commands and audio signals between the RG-1000e GATEWAY and the radio, connected to this interface, are transmitted to the radioserver via IP channel 1. The IP address and TCP (XCMP) port of the IP channel are specified in the remote control station settings. The radioserver initiates the connection with the RG-1000e GATEWAY via TCP protocol linking to preset the IP address and TCP port. The radioserver selects a random port from a range of as the TCP source port. After establishing the TCP connection, the RG-1000e GATEWAY and the radioserver exchange data packets, containing the parameters of each of them. Particularly, the RG-1000e GATEWAY sends the following settings of the ports: audio signals and service data. When a package with the RG-1000e GATEWAY parameters is received, the radioserver opens the required number of UDP ports on its side: one UDP port for audio signals, and one UDP port for each corresponding

14 port of data transmission services. The numbers of these ports are also selected randomly. Then the radioserver starts data exchange with the RG-1000e GATEWAY. To control the connection and the entries in the NAT table, the radioserver and RG-1000e GATEWAY exchange with UDP packets via the corresponding ports every 3 seconds. The step-by-step process of the connection establishment is shown in the figure below. Fig. 4 The process of establishing the connection betw een the radioserver and the RG-1000e GATEWAY If the radio is used for voice transmission with the Mu-Law audio encoding mode, the required bandwidth is 128 kbit/s per one channel. The required bandwidth of the channel that is used for managing the radios is about 15 kbit/s.

15 The total network bandwidth that is required for establishing the communication channel is calculated as follows: The required network bandwidth = number of IP channels *(128 k bit/s + 15 k bit/s) If the control station is used for data exchange only with the radios (GPS and text messages), the required bandwidth is 15 kbit/s per one channel. In this case, the total network bandwidth is calculated as follows: The required network bandwidth = number of IP channels * 15 k bit/s. The example of configuring the radioserver for its connection to two RG-1000e GATEWAYs, is shown in the figure below. In this example, RG-1000e GATEWAY 2 manages one radio via IP channel 1. Fig. 5 Connection of the radioserver to tw o RG-1000e GATEWAYs via the local data transm ission netw ork The Remote control station 1 settings on the radioserver are used to connect and manage the radio of RG-1000e GATEWAY 1, the Remote control station 2 settings to connect and manage the radio of RG-1000e GATEWAY 2. When more RG-1000e GATEWAYs are connected to a radioserver, they are configured correspondingly.

16 Each RG-1000e GATEWAY can be connected to two radioservers: primary and redundant. The RG-1000e GATEWAY IP channels can be separated by using both the port number of the TCP/UDP protocol and the IP address of the IP channel. The diagram of the IP connections for managing one radio from two radioservers simultaneously is shown in the figure below. Fig. 6 Connection of tw o radioservers (prim ary and redundant) to one RG-1000e GATEWAY A separate IP channel is configured for each radioserver. In this case, the RG-1000e GATEWAY will replicate the data and audio signal, received by the radio, in order to transmit them to each of the radioservers. In case of a primary radioserver failure, all data and control commands will be transmitted via the redundant radioserver.

17 The IP channel connection in the RG-1000e GATEWAYs can be established in the following ways: Dynamically, in this case all IP channels have the same IP addresses and port numbers. Under these parameters, connection of the radioservers is performed serially on an idle IP channel. Statically, in this case each IP channel has an individual IP address and/or port number (as it is shown in the figure below). Fig. 7 Connection of the radioserver and RG-1000e GATEWAY via the netw ork w ith NAT To operate via a public network (for example, the Internet) with the address transmission on adjacent routers, the external interface of router 2 must have a static IP address in the gateway network while the external interface of router 1 can have a dynamic IP address in the gateway network. In the example in the figure above, router 1, the radioserver default gateway, has the IP address of the internal network interface and the IP address of the external network interface. Router 2, the default gateway of the RG-1000e GATEWAY, has the IP address of the internal network interface and the IP address of the external network interface. The radioserver and gateway are assigned the and static IP addresses, respectively. The NAT Overload (Port Address Translation) service is configured on each router. Additionally, you must configure the rules on router 2 allowing the transmission of the TCP and UDP packets with its port numbers arriving from the external network. These port numbers are used in the settings of the gateway to its internal IP address, in this example it is

4.2 Rear panel Fisrt time settings, connection and operation check Before installing the RG-1000e GATEWAY, it is required to perform a visual inspection of the delivery set in order to detect the mechanical damages of the casing or connection elements. Before connecting a radio, it is required to preset the RG-1000e GATEWAY interface. When connecting a radio, use the interface cable from the delivery set only. RG-1000e GATEWAY can be placed on its rubber feet or can be attached to any vertical or horizontal surfaces. For rigid attachment of the RG-1000e GATEWAY to the surfaces, use the brackets from the delivery set. A radio may be fixed on the upper housing cover with the use of a standard radio bracket. The external parts, that are fastened to the RG-1000e GATEWAY casing, must be attached to the RG-1000e GATEWAY with the screws from the delivery set only. Longer screws may damage the board or its elements. The areas of mounting the clamping elements to the RG-1000e GATEWAY casing are provided in Appendix II. To configuration and operation check, perform the following steps: 1. Make sure the RG-1000e GATEWAY is powered down (POWER button on the front panel should be unpressed) and the RG-1000e GATEWAY is unplugged from any devices. 2. For performing initial settings (from the box) RG-1000e must be connected to an external power supply via Power socket. Connect VDC power supply to the RG-1000e GATEWAY. Connect the positive lead (+) of your power supply with +V gateway power socket pin, the negative lead (-) of the power supply with V gateway power socket pin. Recommended power cable wires size is 0.5 sq.mm.(20awg) GND pin of the gateway's power socket is connected to the casing and the ground protection of the USB interface and LAN interface. The picture below shows how conductors/wires should be stripped and released from the power plug.

4.3 Fisrt time settings, connection and operation check 21 Fig. 10 RG-1000e pow er plug conductors connect-release Attention! The GND screw or GND pin (on the pow er socket) of the RG-1000e GATEWAY must be connected to the protective ground of the facility w here it is mounted! Attention! 15.5VDC is the max imum supply voltage for the RG-1000e GATEWAY. Don't ex ceed it! Attention! If RG-1000e is used together w ith Mototrbo control stations RG-1000e may get pow er via Pow er socket, Radio 1 interface socket and Radio 2 interface socket! If RG-1000e is used together w ith non-mototrbo control stations RG-1000e may get pow er only via Pow er socket! Decide carefully how RG-1000e w ill get pow er! There are some tips w hich help you to deliver pow er to RG-1000e properly: if only one Mototrbo radio is connected to the RG-1000e it is better to get pow er from a connected Mototrbo radio. DM46 radio connection cable contains necessary w ires for delivering pow er to connected RG-1000e. Just connect the RG-1000e to the Mototrbo radio using cable DM46.

4.3 Fisrt time settings, connection and operation check 22 if tw o Mototrbo control stations are connected to the RG-1000e you may get pow er from both connected Mototrbo. In this case it is strongly recommended to use a shared DC pow er supply for both connected Mototrbo radios VDC pow er supply w ith 30A current load is sufficient for this task. an option " getting pow er from connected devices" may be turn-on and turn-off by changing RG1000e softw are settings. You may enable\disable this option using CPS RG-1000e, open and change Radio_1 or Radio_2 settings (see the figure below ). If the option " getting pow er from connected devices" is OFF on both Radio1 and Radio2 interfaces RG-1000e may get pow er only via Pow er socket. So, before turning-off the option on both Radio 1 and Radio 2 interfaces you should deliver pow er to RG-1000e via Pow er socket. Fig. 11 Enable\Disable getting pow er from a connected Mototrbo radio Attention! If RG-1000e and control stations (mobile radios) get pow er from independent pow er supply units the negative leads of all pow er supply units must be connected together using the copper w ire of at least 2 mm2 section!!! 3. Turn on the RG-1000e GATEWAY's power supply. 4. Turn on the RG-1000e GATEWAY via POWER button on the front panel. Connect the RG-1000e GATEWAY to a PC (with installed "CPS RG-1000e") using USB A-miniB cable from the delivery set. Run "CPS RG-1000e" and configure the RG-1000e GATEWAY Ethernet network parameters and the RG-1000e GATEWAY Radio ports parameters. 5. Power down the RG-1000e GATEWAY using the POWER switch on its front panel and connect the RG-1000e GATEWAY to the IP network equipment. Attention! Don't use Ethernet cables installed outdoors. Only indoor Ethernet cables are allow ed! Attention! It is highly recommended to use shielded Ethernet cables! Attention! Do not forget to pow er dow n RG-1000e GATEWAY for 5-10 seconds every time w hen you change the unit settings! 6. Specify the IP address and XCMP port of the RG-1000e GATEWAY to configure the SmartPTT radioserver. 7. In accordance with the configured operation mode of the RG-1000e GATEWAY interface, connect the required interface cable to the RADIO 1 or RADIO 2 sockets, which is located on the rear panel of the RG-1000e GATEWAY, and to the corresponding radio connection jack.

4.3 Fisrt time settings, connection and operation check Connect the power cable and antenna to the radio. 9. Connect the radio's power cable to the RG-1000e GATEWAY power supply unit. Attention! The RG-1000e GATEWAY and radios must receive pow er from a shared pow er source. In case of separated pow er supplies, connect the negative leads of those pow er supplies together using the copper w ire of at least 2 sq.mm section! Attention! Pay ex treme attention to the reliability and quality of connection of the negative radio supply lead to the pow er supply terminal. Its emergency shutdow n can lead to the RG-1000e GATEWAY failure! 10. Turn on the RG-1000e GATEWAY and radio power supply. Power up the radio station and RG-1000e GATEWAY. The equipment is ready for use. 11. Run SmartPTT radioserver. Wait for 3-5 minutes. 12. Check the RG-1000e front LED statuses. If installation and configuration are done properly "LINK" Led should be turned-on and at least one "Radio" Led should be turned-off. 13. Check SmartPTT Radioserver Configurator "Activity Tab". If installation and configuration are done properly, without mistakes, you will see message "Remote Control Station connected".

5.1 Conventional Mode 26 Fig. 16 Conventional Mode Repeater sam ple 3 The figures above show the example of building the system in Conventional Mode between radios. In the given examples the RG-1000e GATEWAY manages two control radio stations, each of them operates on an individual frequency channel and can be programmed to operate both in digital and analog modes. If the dispatchers must be able to operate on more than two frequency channels simultaneously, more RG-1000e GATEWAYs with radio stations can be connected to the radioserver. In digital mode the control stations support receiving data (ARS, GPS, TMS, etc.) from the subscribers, transmitting control commands to them and voice message exchange. In analog mode the radios support only voice message exchange with the subscribers. The control stations can be programmed with a number of channels and they can change to the required channel with command from the dispatch console. To transmit and receive the subscriber voice calls, the control stations must belong to the same talkgroups as the radio subscribers. Private Calls between the radio subscribers will not be received by the control stations and therefore they will not be transmitted to the radioserver and dispatch console. You can find more detailed information on the settings of the control stations in the "MOTOTRBO SYSTEM PLANNER" ( System Topologies chapter), "SmartPTT Basic Installation&Configuration Guide" documentation and the "SmartPTT Radioserver Configurator" software help file.

5.1 Conventional Mode Capacity Plus legacy trunking network The figure below shows the typical topology used when building the dispatching system on the basis of the SmartPTT software in the Capacity Plus Legacy trunking network without the use of the MOTOTRBO Network Application Interface protocol (hereinafter referred to as the NAI protocol). The given mode is called Capacity Plus Legacy. Fig. 17 Capacity Plus netw ork in Legacy m ode: connection via the pool of the rem ote control stations In this connection method, the radioserver is connected to the repeaters directly via an IP network. Repeaters transmit the voice calls (both Group Call and Private Call) and data received from the radio subscribers to the radioserver over the IP network. The radioserver, in turn, transmits the control commands and voice calls from the dispatcher to the radio subscribers via control stations. This transmission is performed via the pool (in the given example, 4 units) of the remote control stations connected to several RG-1000e GATEWAYs. The number of the remote control stations depends on the number of required simultaneous calls from the dispatcher/dispatchers. In general, the number of the remote control stations must not be greater than the number of the trunking voice channels (in the given example, 4 voice channels) in the Capacity Plus network. More detailed information on the configuration of the control stations in Capacity Plus Legacy mode is contained in the «MOTOTRBO SYSTEM PLANNER» ( System Topologies chapter) and «Capacity Plus Deployment

5.2 Capacity Plus legacy trunking network Capacity Plus trunking network with NAI Data (hybrid mode) The system topology in the connection mode to Capacity Plus is shown in the figure below. In the given connection mode: data exchange with radio subscribers is carried out via the MOTOTRBO NAI protocol, the pool of control stations is used to receive and transmit voice messages and control commands. This mode is called hybrid mode (Capacity Plus Hybrid). Fig. 18 Capacity Plus netw ork in Hybrid m ode: connection via the pool of the rem ote control stations NAI DATA license must be installed on each repeater in the Capacity Plus network. The data exchange between the radioserver and radio subscribers is carried out via the NAI protocol by means of the installed MNIS and DDMS services. For Group Calls and Private Calls, the pool of control stations is used. One single control radio station is used for each talkgroup in which the dispatcher/dispatchers must participate. Additionally, one or more radio stations are installed to make Private Calls to the radio subscribers. In the example above three control stations are used to make and receive Group Calls to talkgroups 1, 2, 4. Radio station 4 is used to make Private Calls to the radio subscribers and receive Private Calls from them.

5.3 Capacity Plus trunking network with NAI Data (hybrid mode) 30 You can find more detailed information on the configuration of the control stations in Capacity Plus Hybrid mode in the "MOTOTRBO SYSTEM PLANNER" documentation ( System Topologies chapter) and the "SmartPTT Radioserver Configurator" software help file.

5.3 Capacity Plus trunking network with NAI Data (hybrid mode) Capacity Plus multi-site trunking network with NAI Data (hybrid mode) When connecting to a Capacity Plus Muliti-Site network in hybrid mode, the principles of system topology and building the system are the same as those when connecting to a Capacity Plus network in hybrid mode. The remote control stations can be located in the radio coverage area of any site of the network. Fig. 19 Capacity Plus Multi Site in Hybrid m ode: connection via the pool of the rem ote control stations You can find more detailed information on the configuration of the control stations in Linked Capacity Plus Hybrid mode in the "MOTOTRBO SYSTEM PLANNER" documentation ( System Topologies chapter) and the "SmartPTT Radioserver Configurator" software help file.

5.4 Capacity Plus multi-site trunking network with NAI Data (hybrid mode) I\O mode RG-1000e GATEWAYs with firmware R2.2 and later may be used for connection non-mototrbo radios to SmartPTT radioserver. Mobile radios and\or repeaters (analog or digital) are connected to the RG-1000e GATEWAY just using 5 wires: PTT, CSQ, RX Audio, TX Audio and GND. It provides voice exchange between SmartPTT Dispatchers and talk-groups of non-mototrbo radio networks. The figures below show examples of non-mototrbo remote control station using an RG-1000e GATEWAY. Fig. 20 Motorola APX\XTL radio connection to RG-1000e Fig. 21 Mototrola MTM radio connection to RG-1000e Fig. 22 Mototrola MTR2000 repeater connection to RG-1000e

5.5 I\O mode 33 Fig. 23 Mototrola CDM\GM\PRO m obile radio connection to RG-1000e RG-1000e has RX VOX on board. If a control station doesn't have output CSQ\COR\TG-Detect\PL-Detect signal line RG-1000e internal RX VOX may be used for CSQ signal generation. It allows to connect to RG-1000e such radios like MTM5*** that don't have CSQ output signal line.

5.5 I\O mode Bridge mode The RG-1000e GATEWAY may be configured to work in Bridge mode, that allows to create simplest distributed radio networks. In Bridge mode mobile radios and\or repeaters (analog or digital) are connected to the RG-1000e GATEWAY just using 5 wires: PTT, CSQ, RX Audio, TX Audio and GND. Bridge mode doesn't utilize any signaling systems like CTCSS, DQS, MDC1200, QT, Select V, DMR, dpmr and doesn't use digital links USB\RS-232 to exchange commands with radios/repeaters. In Bridge mode the RG-1000e GATEWAYs communicate to each other via IP networks directly, creating transparent links for audio streams and PTT\CSQ commands. SmartPTT radioserver doesn't take part in this process. Following picture shows how the RG-1000e GATEWAY may be used in Bridge mode. Fig nodes netw ork w ith 8 RG-1000e units in Bridge m ode ("star" topology)

35 6 Storage and transportation conditions The RG-1000e GATEWAY equipment must be stored at the temperatures +41º to +104ºF (+5º to +40ºC), relative humidity less than 80 % at the temperature of +77ºF (+25ºC). The storage site must be free of dust as well as corrosive vapors and gases. Shipment of RG-1000e GATEWAY equipment to a customer is possible via any transport under the following conditions: The ambient air temperature is 22º to +122ºF ( 30º to +50ºC). The relative humidity is less than 95 % at the temperature of +77º F(+25ºC). The equipment is protected from the direct precipitation and dust. When transporting by air, RG-1000e GATEWAY equipment in a package must be tight packed. Do not turn or throw packed RG-1000e GATEWAY equipment during its loading, transporting and unloading it is prohibited to throw and turn the package with the RG-1000e GATEWAY equipment.
