3 SOUND PROJECTS Linex : Sophisticated, simple and utterly convenient To maximize the acoustical advantage of a line array sophisticated technology is needed. To maximize user-satisfaction, handling the line-array should be as simple as child-play. How does SOUND PROJECTS Linex achieve this? With a perfect blend of the following features: Maximum SPL physically possible. 144 db peak throughout the speech-band Due to it s ultra compact vertical configuration of the HF sections the available output-level per array length are unsurpassed. Multiple driver design warrants immaculate audio quality and minimal distortion Each Linex enclosure comprises no less than eight neodymium drivers in a 3 way configuration. Optimum enclosure dimensions facilitate economical logistics Linex has been designed to enable in house connection of 3 or 6 cabinets in a truckpack sized flightcase. The use of proprietary carbon-fibre composite enclosure, neodymium drivers and aluminium-alloy rigging hardware. 4 Symmetrical design In every design of a line array, driver placement is crucial. It can often make the decisive difference in a difficult, reverberant acoustical environment such as multi purpose halls. Horizontal dispersion largely depends on the geometry and number of sources working at crossover frequencies. Using two horizontally placed sources, one HF and one MF, will produce interference patterns around the crossover, audible as erratic dips in the off axis frequency response. These unpleasant artefacts are inevitable results of the cross-over phase shift and driver path-length differences. However, adding a third MF source and placing the HF source in the middle, creates a more stable and symmetrical horizontal dispersion. Provided the distance between the sources is small enough. Now here complex conflicts of interest emerge. The HF source shall be small but needs a sufficiently large, uninterrupted waveguide to create stable HF dispersion. Contrarily, the MF sources shall be sufficiently large (SPL) but also need to be placed as close as possible because they shall radiate as one source. By placing 4 custom designed 6.5 inch MF drivers behind a narrow, rectangular diffraction slot, SOUND PROJECTS Linex elegantly tackles this obstacle. The MF exits can be viewed as two line sources flanking the HF Wave-shapetransformer. Precise placement, minimized horizontal dimensions and an appropriate time offset correction guarantee a smooth transition between the three exits at cross-over frequencies and a constant horizontal coverage angle. To emulate a single, symmetrical low frequency source, two 12 woofers are mounted side firing in the enclosure which has a 62 Hz bass reflex tuning. This configuration endows Linex with an impressive low end response that often makes subwoofers obsolete. Fig.1 Typical HF-unit and two 10 -drivers. 5 Wave-shape-transformer The unique and patented High Frequency Waveshape-transformer is the vital backbone of all SOUND PROJECTS Σ-series Line Array models. This unique, proprietary acoustic wave-guide technology transforms the spherical uni-phase wave-front generated by the HF compression driver to a near perfect cylindrical wave-front emerging from the front of the array. Smooth edged horizontal, and even more important, tight vertical dispersion generates the necessary virtual slice of audio that easily stacks on top of each other. The low compression high frequency drivers have small diaphragms in comparison to their pass-band, similar to the low and mid frequency drivers. This feature, augmented by the appropriate acoustic loading of the wave-shape-transformer is responsible for Linex spectacular impuls response o -120 o Real Measured Vertical Polarplots 6 db/div -90 o -60 o -30 o -180 o 0 o 1k Hz Oct. 2k Hz Oct. 4k Hz Oct. 8k Hz Oct. 150 o 30 o 120 o 60 o 90 o Integrated, practical, and convenient flying hardware The standard fitted Σasy-rig flying hardware is extruded from a specialized high-strength aluminium alloy that meets the stringent weight criteria necessary to hang a 24 module array with a 10:1 safety factor. Retractable connectors at the front keep module faces and therefore acoustical sources, contiguous at all angles. A clever slide-bar with multiple holecombinations at the back adjusts the angle between adjacent cabinets. Gradually increasing angle settings of 0, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 degrees match the acoustical parameters of real life array designs. The self-explanatory rigging system, including quick release pins, stores completely within the perimeter of the enclosure during transit, preventing rigging components to be forgotten and eliminating the need for extra storage room. Three
6 Lightweight carbon-fibre composite enclosure The numerous complex and often contradictory design criteria imposed on the enclosure design demanded a more sophisticated production method. A conventional wooden box design simply could not fully address ease of use, transport and rigging facilities. Since SOUND PROJECTS engineers have massive experience with injection moulding, the choice for this production method was obvious adding several other benefits: The use of a newly developed carbon-fibre composite together with clever inner reinforcement structures caused higher stiffness yet a 30% lighter enclosure than a conventional wooden constructed cabinet. Consequentially this lightweight cabinet construction enables the use of lighter rigging equipment. Finally each Linex is equipped with an impressive quantity of twelve handles, and a high level of weather proofing. Linex is the personification of sophisticated sound reinforcement. Moulded in a timeless, nocompromise and no-nonsense design. Simple and pragmatic software SPArC SOUND PROJECTS Line Array Calculator (SPArC ) is a powerful, yet uncomplicated, acoustical prediction tool for Sigma-series users. The Excel based prediction software consists of a user-friendly interface enabling on-site fast and reliable simulation of acoustic and mechanic values. After entering few of the local parameters, the automatically calculated advice can easily be altered manually, immediately showing results. Four
