LuxiTune delivers warm, consistent, and energy-efficient Lux-on-Target TM directional lighting for restaurant, entertainment, hospitality and hotel lighting. With a high color rendering index (CRI) and R9 throughout the dimming range, LuxiTune ensures accurate color rendition at all intensity levels. Furthermore, emitter-to-emitter variations of less than 3 SDCM at maximum intensity guarantee consistent light quality. LuxiTune, which is based on LED Engin s proven LuxiGen emitter technology, is available in three beam options: 24 / 32 /45, providing flexibility and freedom in lighting design.

8 Lens Assembly Instructions Lens holders can be assembled to the PCB using an epoxy or polyurethane-based adhesive (example: Dow Corning 3145 RTV). Cyanoacrylate (superglue) adhesive should not be used to avoid contamination of the lens (blooming of the epoxy). Lens Cleaning Use a lint-free soft cloth to dust off the lens. For deeper cleaning a solution of neutral detergent (example: dishwashing soap) can be used. Do not use any solvents or abrasive liquid/ fabric. 8

12 Electrical Interfaces Power supply To provide 24VDC, any 20W DC power supply not exceeding max voltage rating can be used. Make sure both ground (1+6) pins and Vcc (2+3) pins of the J2 connector are utilized to allow sufficient current sourcing capability. Pay attention to the polarity of the power source used because connecting the polarity in reverse direction can cause permanent damage to the driver board. LuxiTune Light Engine driver board pin-out J2 connector (JST, S9B-ZR) is used to supply voltage and control signals. Mating connector part options: JST, ZHR-9(P): 9pin female with poke-in feature for 26AWG wire; 1A rating with #26. JST, 09ZR-8M-P(P): 9pin female with IDC feature for up to 28AWG wire; 0.7A rating with #28, requires two supply wires each for Vcc (pin 2+3) and GND (pin 1+6). 13 Dimmer Compatibility LuxiTune is optimized to work with all 0-10V dimmers, current sink (IEC60929) as well as current source dimmer control. In addition, a 100K variable resistor can be also be used. LuxiTune can also be used with 1-10V dimmers, however it will not dim down to 0% dim level. LuxiTune learns dimmer range at first turn-on. It will automatically adjust 0-10V dimmer range for the maximum dimming level. Every time a new dimmer is connected, LuxiTune needs to reset and re-learn the new dimmer range using the following steps: 1. Connect pin 2 and 3 of J1 connector. 2. Disconnect LuxiTune from 24VDC power supply for 5 seconds, and then re-connect to power supply. 3. Disconnect pin 2 and 3 of J1 connector. 4. Teach LuxiTune the new dimmer range by going through one full dimming cycle. 14 Appendix: Mechanical and Thermal considerations For optimum performance, it is important to choose a proper heat sink. There are many variables to consider: the heat sink size and shape, active or passive options, surface finish, but the most important factor is the thermal resistance required for the specific environment the fixture will be operating in. The resulting T C of the emitter will determine the expected lifetime. Below is a table that list maximum thermal resistance values of the heat sink needed at different case and ambient temperatures. Thermal interface material To properly transfer heat from LED emitter to heat sink, a thermally conductive material is required when mounting the MCPCB on to the heat sink. Example of such material is Electrolube EHTC. There are several materials that can be used as thermal interface material (TIM), such as thermal paste, thermal pads, phase change materials and thermal epoxies. Each has pro s and con s depending on the application. It is critical to verify that the TIM s thermal resistance is sufficient for the selected emitter and its environment. To properly transfer the heat from the MCPCB to the heat sink, special attention should also be paid to the flatness of the heat sink. Thermal feedback and protection LuxiTune Light Engine has incorporated a thermal feedback function. This ensures constant optical output (flux, CRI, R9) over the operating temperature range (T C = C). At T C 85 o C, device goes into thermal protection mode and power consumption is linearly reduced down to 0W at T C 105 o C, at which point it will turn itself off. Once cooled, turn the device off and on at control to reset. Mechanical Mounting of MCPCB with Driver board MCPCB bending should be avoided as it will cause mechanical stress on the emitter, which could lead to substrate cracking and subsequently LED dies cracking. To avoid MCPCB bending: o o o o Special attention needs to be paid to the flatness of the heat sink surface and the torque on the screws. Care must be taken when securing the board to the heat sink. This can be done by tightening three M3 screws (or #4-40) in steps and not all the way down at once. Using fewer than three screws will increase the likelihood of board bending. It is recommended to always use plastics washers in combinations with the three screws. If non-taped holes are used with self-tapping screws, it is advised to back out the screws slightly after tightening (with controlled torque) and then re-tighten the screws again. 14
