Brief Description The VTX1394SED video transmitter and VRX1394SED video receiver combine the Videowave 1394MHz wireless video transmission system with the RM9600 series radio modem transceiver for remote operation of cameras with telemetry. Units are housed within a weatherproof IP67 enclosure, and both top-plate and bulkhead antenna connections are provided to enable connection to RDTs range of video and data antennas. Bulkhead cable glands are also provided to enable entry to video, data, and mains power connections. 2 Connection and Configuration Required connections to the VTX1394SED and VRX1394SED units are as follows: 1) Video in on VTX1394SED / Video out on VRX1394SED. BNC type connector 2a) RS485 telemetry twisted pair. ( Pin 1 = Data-, Pin 2 = Data+, Pin 3 = Gnd) 2b) RS232 telemetry. 9 pin D-type connector. 3) AC mains power. 4a) Data antenna (whip types only) BNC connector. 4b) Data antenna (remote mounting types) N-type connector. 5a) Video antenna (whip or patch types) TNC connector. 5b) Video antenna (remote mounting types) N-type connector. 6) LED. VTX1394SE: Red = power, not transmitting. Green = power and transmitting. VRX1394SE: Red = power, not receiving. VTX1394SED / VRX1394SED Layout & Connections The VTX1394SED and VRX1394SED are supplied with video and data antenna connections made to the enclosure top-plate (4a & 5a on above diagram) for use with whip or patch type antennas. Also included are optional internal connector cables for use with remote mounting antennas that require connection to the enclosure bulkhead (4b & 5b on diagram). Note: When using remote mounting antennas, a minimum distance of 3m should be maintained between the video and data antennas. The Videowave transmitter unit has a bi-colour LED that will illuminate red to indicate that the unit is powered but not transmitting, or green to indicate that the unit is powered and transmitting. As supplied, the transmitter will be set to send a default test signal if no video source is connected. Alternatively the unit may be supplied to special order, set so that it shall not transmit if a video source is not connected. The Videowave receiver unit has a bi-colour LED that will illuminate red to indicate that the unit is powered but no signal is being received or the received carrier signal strength is below the good signal threshold. The LED will illuminate green to indicate that received carrier signal strength is above the good signal threshold. This feature greatly assists installation and system tests, particularly when aligning directional antennas for optimum performance.

3 The RM9600 radio modem is supplied as standard at the frequency range of to MHz with 15 user selectable channels (UK specification), and 4 selectable levels of Rf power output ranging from 50mW to 500mW (50mW setting is advised for most applications). Configuration of the RM9600 radio modem is required to match the protocols of the telemetry system used, and is easily carried out using the on board configuration switches. For further information, please refer to the RM9600 user manual or the RDT telemetry application note, or consult your supplier for details of compatible telemetry. Optional Digital I/O (Alarm Contact Transmission) The optional digital I/O permits a volt free contact digital signal to be sent bi-directionally across the radio telemetry link. Output of the signal is provided via a changeover relay. This feature is ideal for applications that require the inclusion of remote alarm signalling or control of external devices (e.g. access control, lighting, etc). If the optional digital I/O is required, please add the suffix D1 (1 digital I/O) or D2 (2 digital I/O) after the transmitter and receiver order codes. Antenna Selection Each VTX1394SED and VRX1394SED unit will require connection of 2 different antennas, one for the video channel, and one for the data channel. As standard, units are supplied with 3dB patch antennas for the video transmission, and ½ wave whip type antennas for the data transmission. The video and data channels offer different levels of performance, which is also affected by external factors including antenna location and height, and obstructions in the signal path. RDT offer a wide range of video and data antennas to suit various applications. Details of these and the maximum ranges achievable with each antenna combination may be found in the charts below. A site survey may be required to confirm your antenna requirements, particularly if clear line of sight does not exist between the transmitter and receiver locations. Please refer to the Videowave user manual or contact your supplier for further information on antenna selection and mounting. As the Videowave 1394MHz transmitter and receiver are single channel units only one such system may be used on a single site. For details of multiple wireless camera configurations with telemetry please refer to the RDT data sheet for the VTX24xxENCD and VRX24xxENCD 2400MHz wireless video & data transmission units. The 2400MHz units may also be used to enable repeat transmission of a video signal to extend range, or to circumnavigate obstructions that may be situated in a direct path between transmitter and receiver. Remote DVR/Matrix Control The VTX1394SED & VRX1394SED may be used to enable a wireless connection from a remote digital recorder or matrix, to a monitor and control keyboard. This provides a highly cost effective solution for systems where several cameras must be transmitted over a common path, or where a remote master or slave control point is required. An example of this type of configuration is illustrated in figure 3 below. Please contact your supplier for details of compatible equipment and exact configuration requirements.
