2 Product Code Tamper Evident Tape Description A Tamper evident packing tape with or without printing, first time, to be manufactured in India. It leaves a message when removed from the applied Surface. Now in the country is producing Pilfer-proof Tape in self wound fashion without release liner. In short this is what we have invented. The adhesive for the manufacture of this tape is specially developed in house. The tape on unwinding from the role do not get distorted, or unwinds easily, but the same tape applied on various substrates like corrugated sheets, plastic molded surfaces, metal surfaces, acrylic sheets. 5 the above is to deveaop some unique packing concept by which the actual user and manufacturer can get 100% assurance about the genuinity of the product purchased or sold by them. After prolonged thinking in this regard and extensive research and development activities we have invented a packaging tape which looks like an ordinary or normal or pdnted or plane BOPP tape as explained above. But when a hidden message, as required by the manufacturer,, which will appear on the box while removing the adhesive tape. This tamper evident message will act as a seal, which will establish the genuine of the product. This type of packaging tape is going to be manufactured for the first time. Such tamper evident sheets are available already in the form of stickers with silicon paper release liner. It is for the first time that such a tamper evident packaging tape is made without a release liner, which will make it cost effective compared to the alternatives available abroad. This packaging tape can be used by all the manufacturers producing eatables, medicines, cosmetics, toiletries, automobile spare pads, electronic and computer components, lubricants etc. Benefits of New Invention over Conventional One The product we are going to launch is not just a new packaging material but a new concept alll together. Expensive Products like, Pharmaceuticals, Electronic Components, Auto spare parts, etc. Packed in regular curtains will get extra protection against pilferage or duplication, by using this Tape. Unlike printed packaging Tapes, which are currently used on a very large scale, because of easy available, our product will be available only to Genuine Manufacturers. The great advantage of our product is, when it reaches the end user or Dealer, they can check the packing against any pilferage just by opening the packing a little bit, for e.g. say just about two inches. A message "This box is pilfered "starts appearing on the carton, which clearly indicates that the packing is Genuine or Else the same can be rejected and sent back to the manufacturer. This is how the duplication can be totally stopped. It is indeed a great advantage for the Manufacturer as well as the end Customer. Operational Particulars i Description of Manufacturing Process A. First Pass The Oriented Ploy-Propylene Film is printed by regular gravure printing method as per customers requirement, in as many as unto three colors. PROCESS OF GRAVURE COATING In this method there are set of two rollers, approx, diameter of which is 150 mm, They are arranged one above the other. The bottom roller is driven with help of the motor, the top roller is non-driven. A metal tray is placed below the bottom roller, which is filled with printing ink. The bottom rollers picks up ink from the tray and transfer it onto the BOPP film passing in between the top and bottom roller. This method is known as gravure coating. B. Second Pass In this pass the Film is treated for tamper evident properties. TAMPER EVIDENT PROPERTIES Tamper evident properties means some controlled transfer of coating from one surface to the other surface in form of certain geometrical patterns or letters. Herein our case the printing Ink or color transfers from the film side of the tapes to the surface on which it is applied for e.g. corrugated box or powder coated panel or plastic sheets or wood etc. 171

6 i~< > To achieve this effect we print "THIS BOX IS OPEND" or similar message by same gravure coating method as explained above, using specially developed ink based on polyurethane polymer. The specialty of this ink is that it is transparent in nature, so that after printing also it is invisible. This ink has one more role to play. This ink forms a temporary bond with the apposite film. This coating or printing is responsible for getting the tampering properties. "THIS BOX IS PILFERED" OR "THIS BOX IS OPENED" The bond formed between the printed OPP Film and the adhesive is very poor and temporary, in the area printed as above, the reason for this is, the printing is being done with a polyurethane ink as mentioned above, which has release properties. Where as on the remaining areas,(which is shaded in Grey color for ref. In the above fig.), the bond between the film and adhesive is permanent. That is how the letters are transfer onto the surface, on which the tape is applied, as the bond formed by the adhesive with the applied surface, is stronger than the band between film and adhesive. This is the reason for the tampering C. Third Pass.> In this pass the Film is treated on the reverse side for easy release of adhesive, once it is self wound with specialty adhesive. D. Fourth Pass The last pass is coating of adhesive manufactured in house with special properties like excellent tack, moderate peel adhesion and reasonable shear strength, which is specially compounded for getting tampering characteristics. The coated film is then slit into required widths and lengths, checked for quality control tests and packed.
