Objectives Demonstrate knowledge of working with selections and measurement. Use Photoshop guides and rulers. Transform images. Adjust or correct the tonal range, color, or distortions of an image. Demonstrate knowledge of retouching and blending images. 2 2
Objectives (cont.) Demonstrate knowledge of drawing and painting. Demonstrate knowledge of type. Demonstrate knowledge of filters. 3 3
Vocabulary Anti-aliasing Channel compositing Droplet Edge halo Feathering Marching ants Refine edge 4 4
Domain 4.0 Manipulating Images Using Adobe Photoshop CS5 Domain 4 focuses on the many methods used to manipulate images in Photoshop, both in a destructive and nondestructive manner. In this domain, you will review how to improve selections, work with color correction, and apply filters. 5 5
Objective 4.1 Demonstrate Knowledge of Working with Selections and Measurement Marching ants is the term used for an active selection. 6 6
Objective 4.1 Demonstrate Knowledge of Working with Selections and Measurement (cont.) Selection Commands 7 7 All Selects everything on the active layer Deselect Removes the selection Reselect Reactivates the previous selection Inverse Reverses the selection to the opposite of what is currently selected Copying and Cutting a Selection You can cut, copy, or paste a selection, as in other applications.
Objective 4.1 Demonstrate Knowledge of Working with Selections and Measurement (cont.) Working with Selections 8 8 In the Select<Save Selection option, you can name the selection, save the selection in the current document or in a new document, and add the current selection to a previously saved selection, known as a channel. View it in the Channels palette, and load the selection by Select<Load Selection. The refine edge option uses truer edge technology to improve selections.
Objective 4.1 Demonstrate Knowledge of Working with Selections and Measurement (cont.) Modifying Selections An edge halo, also called fringing or matting, are the fringe pixels in the background that are difficult to isolate and remove. (Contrast, Shift Edge in Refine Edge option) Touch-Up Brushes The retouching tools include a set of brushes that remove imperfections in images. (Domain 3) Quick Mask Allows you to paint to refine selection using black and white paint with the brush and the eraser. 9 9
Objective 4.1 Demonstrate Knowledge of Working with Selections and Measurement (cont.) Exercise: Saving Selections In the source files under Domain 4, open the bird.psd file. Using your choice of selection tools, make a selection around the bird only. Now, let s go to PSD Exercise: Making a Quick Mask Restore the bird.psd to its original state by History. Make a quick selection in the photo. Now, let s go to PSD and use the Quick Mask 10
Objective 4.1 Demonstrate Knowledge of Working with Selections and Measurement (cont.) Undoing a Selection Select<Deselect (CMD+D or CTRL+D) The History panel allows you to view the exact commands that you have executed and step back several steps at one time. Taking Measurements To measure areas of an image, you can use tools and commands available on the Analysis menu. 11
Objective 4.1 Demonstrate Knowledge of Working with Selections and Measurement (cont.) Compositing Images Compositing an image combines multiple images into a single image. Use feathering to blur the edge of the selection and use anti-aliasing to smooth the edges between multiple images. Need to feather after the selection has been made? Go to Select<Modify<Feather. 12
Objective 4.1 Demonstrate Knowledge of Working with Selections and Measurement (cont.) Batch Processing If you have many images to which you would like to apply the same techniques, you can use batch processing to repeat repetitive actions automatically. If you want to repeat certain actions using multiple images, you can turn an action into a droplet. 13
Objective 4.2 Use Photoshop Guides and Rulers Guides and grids are useful when you need to align elements such as text in the document. 14
Objective 4.2 Use Photoshop Guides and Rulers Exercise: Working with Guides Clicking and Dragging guides from Rulers. New Guides from View<New Guide. Moving existing Guides. Hiding, Locking, and Clearing Guides. 15
Objective 4.3 Transform Images Photoshop allows you to transform entire images, individual layers, or specific selections. You can alter the appearance of an object by scaling, rotating, skewing, distorting, changing the perspective, and flipping it horizontally or vertically. 16
Objective 4.3 Transform Images 17 Free Transform gives you the ability to change horizontal, vertical, or both at the same time. It also lets you do many of the other Transforms: Constrain proportions by holding Shift. Rotate at a corner handle. Reset center point with Option+Click or Alt+Click (PC). To freely move a handle, hold down Cmd or Ctrl (PC). To skew, hold down Shift+Cmd or Shift+Ctrl (PC). To shift the perspective, hold Cmd+Option+Shift or Ctrl+Alt+Shift (PC).
Objective 4.3 Transform Images (cont.) Puppet Warp options (Edit<Puppet Warp) 18
Objective 4.3 Transform Images Exercise: Transformations 19 Open an image file from the source file (except the flower). Select a portion of the image, then Copy+Paste it. Let s explore Edit<Transform Exercise: Puppet Warp Restore your image using History. Next, select Puppet Warp. Click to drop a Pin, drag pin to reposition. Look at the options at the top of the window
Objective 4.3 Transform Images (cont.) Opacity and Fill Options You can adjust a layer s opacity and fill in the Layers panel. Opacity blends a layer with the layer below it (including the Layer Effects). Fill affects the fill opacity of the pixels on the active layer, but does NOT make any changes to any Layer Effects. 20
Objective 4.3 Transform Images (cont.) Exercise: Layer Modes Restore your image to its original position, or open a new one. Next, open the flower file. In the flower file, load the Flower selection (channel) and Copy the selection. In the other file, Paste the flower. Now, back to PSD to see how Opacity and Fill work! 21
Objective 4.4 Adjust or Correct the Tonal Range, Color, or Distortions of an Image You can adjust the tonal range of an image, such as auto contrast, auto levels, and auto color, using commands on the Image menu. 22
Objective 4.4 Adjust or Correct the Tonal Range, Color, or Distortions of an Image (cont.) Adjustment options 23
Objective 4.5 Demonstrate Knowledge of Retouching and Blending Image Blending modes change how the selected layer blends with the layer just below it. 24
Objective 4.5 Demonstrate Knowledge of Retouching and Blending Image Exercise: Layer Modes Restore your image to its original position, or open a new one. Next, open the flower file. In the flower file, load the Flower selection (channel) and Copy the selection. In the other file, Paste the flower. Now, back to PSD to see how the Blending Modes work! 25
Objective 4.6 Demonstrate Knowledge of Drawing and Painting Drawing Tools 26 You can choose three modes before starting to draw a shape with a shape tool or a path with a Pen tool shape layers, paths, or fill pixels: Shape layers draw a shape on a separate layer with a vector mask and a fill layer; the outline of the drawn shape appears as a path in the Paths panel. Paths draw a work path on the Paths panel, which can be used to create a selection or a mask or be filled with the foreground color or stroke. Fill pixels creates a raster image on the selected layer.
Objective 4.6 Demonstrate Knowledge of Drawing and Painting Brush Options We covered the Brush in Domain 3, but you can also create a custom Brush in the Brush palette. Exercise: Making a Custom Brush In PSD, select the Brush tool and then view the Brush Palette. Let s create a custom brush 27
Objective 4.7 Demonstrate Knowledge of Type The options bar provides basic options such as font, style, size, alignment, and color. Additional formatting options are available in the Character and Paragraph panels, which you can open on the Windows menu. 28
Objective 4.7 Demonstrate Knowledge of Type Exercise: Manipulating Text In Photoshop, type a few words using the Type tool. Next, make sure that your Paragraph palette is showing, which will also be attached to the Character palette. Let s explore these options 29
Objective 4.8 Demonstrate Knowledge of Filters To open the Filters Gallery, click Filter Gallery on the Filter menu. You can preview filters, apply multiple filters, rearrange their order, and adjust individual filters. Smart Filters will be created when you are trying to apply a filter to a Smart Object. 30
Objective 3 Summary Questions What is a benefit of Smart Filters? 31 Explain 2 reasons why you may want to save a selection. What are three benefits to using the Refine Edge dialog box? List the three commands available to make auto corrections to color and tone in an image.
Objective 3 Summary Questions What is a benefit of Smart Filters? They are nondestructive Explain 2 reasons why you may want to save a selection. Easy access to selections you have already gone through the effort of creating, and they get saved within the file as a Channel for permanent access. What are three benefits to using the Refine Edge dialog box? You can detect edges, feather it, or shift the edge to expand or contract. List the three commands available to make auto corrections to color and tone in an image. Auto Tone, Auto Contrast, Auto Color 32
Objective 3 Summary Questions Explain the steps you would take to measure an object in an image. Identify and define the three modes available with the drawing tools. Explain how to apply color correction in a nondestructive way. 33
Objective 3 Summary Questions Explain the steps you would take to measure an object in an image. Enable the Ruler Tool, click and drag and then view the results in the options bar above. Identify and define the three modes available with the drawing tools. Shape layers, Paths, Fill pixels Explain how to apply color correction in a nondestructive way. Create an Adjustment Layer 34
Objective 3 Summary Questions Which tool would be your best choice to remove the date stamp from a digital image? Clone Stamp History Brush Patch Red Eye Which tool would be your best choice for cloning part of an image? Clone Stamp Healing Brush Patch Red Eye 35
