4 Signature Photography Submitting Correct Exposure Too Dark, do not submit Exposure is much too dark, quality will be lost by having to over brighten during editing. Correct, submit Exposure retains detail in shadowed area without getting too bright in highlights. Use a slightly longer exposure.

5 Signature Photography Submitting Correct Exposure Too Dark, do not submit Exposure has lost all detail in shadowed areas. We are not as concerned out views out windows on Signature. Correct Exposure, submit Exposure still shows detail in shadowed areas with out losing too much detail in the highlights. Use a slightly longer shutter.

6 Signature Photography Submitting Correct Exposure Too Bright, do no submit The siding is too bright and has lost detail, grass looks washed out. Correct, submit Detail in highlights are retained while shadows are not too muddy. This is just a shorter exposure rate.

7 Signature Photography Submitting Correct Exposure Too bright, do no submit On signature use the windows frames as an indicator of what is too bright. This example has lost all the detail in the window frame. Correct, submit In situations where you have a dark room and very bright light coming in the window, try to retain detail in the window frame. Add a slightly higher flash power to balance the rest of the scene.

8 Signature Photography Submitting Correct Exposure Too bright, lost detail in counter Too Dark, lost detail in wood Correct exposure, retained detail in counter and in wood. This is done by a slightly shorter exposure with more diffused fill from the flash. The flash has also helped reduced some of the incorrect red/yellow coloring.

9 Signature Photography Submitting Correct Exposure Wrong White Balance, do not submit This should have been shot on Tungsten (incandescent) white balance. Try different white balances to ensure correct color. Correct White Balance, submit This is closer to the correct color. Be sure to review as shooting to make sure you have something that is accurate. Keep in mind the back of the camera can sometimes be deceiving, so capture several.

10 Signature Photography Submitting Correct Exposure Wrong White Balance- Do Not Submit This is the wrong white balance, the white trim of the house looks blue. Correct White Balance- Submit This is the correct white balance. Remember to adjust the white balance when going outside after having shot inside.

11 VHT Aesthetic and Composition Expectations Apply to Signature and Premium Do not submit crooked images Do not submit pointing down images Always use a tripod and the grid feature, if available, to insure straight and level images. This is true for the Premium Series also.

12 VHT Aesthetic and Composition Expectations Apply to Signature and Premium Use the rule of thirds as a guide when you are composing shots. As you can see in the photograph, the shot is divided into 1/3 ground, 1/3 room, and 1/3 ceiling.

This helps keep the composition wide and showing the size and shape of the room. Two walls tend to make the composition focus on just furniture.

Be sure to shoot from the doorway or just inside the room. Do not submit compositions similar to the above.

This is a small kitchen looking smaller since the fridge is dominating the scene. On the second the cabinets are blocking the view of the kitchen, again making it look smaller. Good composition- Submit Fridge is seen but not overwhelming. Shot shows the overall space and it s relationship to the rest of the living area.

19 VHT Aesthetic and Composition Expectations Apply to Signature and Premium Poor Composition- Do not submit First shot is too cropped, need to show more of the space. Do not focus on furniture. Second shot has no structure, not really looking at anything. Doesn t show what looks like a large space. Good Composition- Submit This is a good example of showing off the space, making it feel large but still composed while not focusing on furniture.

21 VHT Aesthetic and Composition Expectations Apply to Signature and Premium Poor Composition- Do Not Submit Shoot much too low. Camera should never be below a table s height. Good Composition- Submit Good height and chairs have been turned out instead of shooting directly into the back of the chair.

23 VHT Aesthetic and Composition Expectations Apply to Signature and Premium Poor Composition- Do Not Submit First shot is way too much just bed. Remember to show the whole room. The second shot is confusing, that s the bed not the floor. Best to show the bed within the space. Good Composition- Submit This shot gives a really good idea of the space of the bedroom. Also features the room s built-ins, a selling feature.

25 Premium Photography The Capture This illustrates the range of exposures needed for Premium Photography. 5-6 exposures at varying shutter speeds. The aperture should be left alone. The exposures should cover all bright areas including view outside windows, light fixtures and glares. The exposures should also cover all shadowed areas like under tables or darker corners at the other end of the room.

26 Premium Photography The Capture What each exposure will be used for This exposure will be used for the windows and the lights. Ignore the rest of the exposure, only those parts will be used. Final Edited Photograph

27 Premium Photography The Capture This exposure will be used for the window frames, the corner of the bed where the sheets got hot and the recessed lighting. Final Edited Photograph

28 Premium Photography The Capture This exposure will be used for the left half of the scene. Final Edited Photograph

29 Premium Photography The Capture This exposure will be used to fill in the shadows under the bed, chair and back of the room. Final Edited Photograph

30 Premium Photography The Capture This exposure will be used as the main photograph. Studio will build ontop of this exposure. It would be considered a Signature Series equivalent and should be labeled as Main upon organization and submission. Final Edited Photograph

31 Remember to Premium Photography The Capture Turn the autofocus off after the first exposure to reduce movement between exposures. Utilize the flash to help illuminate different areas. Change the white balance when exposing for the view out the window. Using the camera bracketing function is fine, but be sure to review the exposures while shooting to analyze what you need to still capture in the range. Make sure to turn off ceiling fans, TVs and have everyone out of the room to reduce movement as much as possible.
