circular polarizer c-pol Increases color saturation and contrast by reducing reflections from non-metallic surfaces and by cutting through haze. Deepens sky color. Generally requires through-the-lens viewing. ALSO AVAILABLE: thin ring version to avoid vignetting with wide angle lenses. circular polarizer ultraviolet skylight ultraviolet uv Improves contrast and color saturation by reducing the effects of ultraviolet light and atmospheric dust and haze in sunny landscapes, including mountain, marine and aerial scenes. Can be used in combination with polarizer for stunning scenics, or to protect the front lens element from dirt, fingerprints, and scratches. skylight 1a Eliminates unpleasant bluish tint caused by reflected blue sky light and ultraviolet rays in sunny outdoor photography. Can be used at all times to protect the front surface of any lens from dirt, fingerprints, and scratches. the essentials for color or black and white 3
close-up +1 Sold as set of three (+1, +2 and +4 values), this series extends the close focus capability of most lenses for stunning close-ups. +1 version offers modest close-focus extension. With the focusing scale of a 35mm camera s normal lens set at 39" (1meter), the image area covered is about 7"x10.5". Actual distance to subject is about 18". close-up +2 Closer focusing range than +1. With the focusing scale of a 35mm camera s normal lens set at 39" (1 meter), the image area covered is about 4"x6". Actual distance to subject is about 12.5". Any Close-Up in set may be combined with others for greater closeup capability. Close-Ups do not require additional exposure compensation. close-up +4 Closest focusing range using a single closeup filter. With the focusing scale of a 35mm camera s normal lens set at 39" (1meter), the image area covered is about 2.5"x4". Actual distance to subject is about 7.5". The set of three Close-Ups comes complete with a padded leather case. 4
neutral density nd2x Series reduces light transmission in controlled amounts, without changing color balance. Allows slower exposure speeds, or larger lens apertures, used to enhance motion, or to separate foreground subjects from confusing backgrounds. ND2x version allows a one-stop exposure increase (½ light is transmitted to film). neutral density nd4x For a two-stop exposure increase (¼ light is transmitted to film). Recommend use of a tripod for slow shutter speeds. neutral density nd8x For a three-stop exposure increase (⅛ light is transmitted to film). Recommend use of a tripod for slow shutter speeds. close-up and exposure correction for color or black and white close-up series neutral density series 5
warming 81a, 81b 81A balances type B-tungsten (3200 K) films for 3400 K light sources, eliminating the slight warm cast. With daylight-type films, it balances the cooling effect of overcast skies or shade, and of some strobes. 81B offers slightly warmer effect, or balances type A or type B film to clear flashbulbs. warming 85a, 85b 85A matches type A (3400 K) films, and 85B matches type B-tungsten (3200 K) films to daylight, eliminating the strong bluish cast of unfiltered film. 6
cooling 80a, 80b Series matches daylight-type films to incandescent light sources, eliminating the strong reddish cast of unfiltered film. Use the 80A version under 3200 K light sources, and the 80B version under 3400 K light sources. cooling 82a Balances type A (3400 K) films for use under tungsten (3200 K) lights. Also reduces the effect of early morning or late afternoon warm sunlight on daylight-type films, and excessive warmth of household incandescent lights on type B-tungsten (3200 K) films. fluorescent f-dl Balances daylight-type films for use under many types of fluorescent, vapor, and other non-continuous spectrum light sources, eliminating or reducing the unpleasant greenish cast. May be combined with warming or cooling filters to offer further correction under certain lighting situations. color balance and conversion to match color films to light source warming series cooling series fluorescent 7
red enhancer r-en Series is designed to intensify specific portions of the color spectrum, without an obvious, filtered appearance. Red Enhancer is perfect for making autumn colors, sunsets, brick houses, tomatoes, and other orange-, red-, or brown-toned subjects look their best. NOTE: Filter appears pale green. green enhancer g-en Makes the greens of forests, meadows, hills, and other green subjects vivid. blue enhancer b-en Blue subjects, such as snowscapes, mountains, and the sea, look their best with this filter. Can also be used to reduce the effect of reddish sunlight in early morning or late afternoon and make cloudy skies look blue. 8
gray graduated tone g-gt Series balances light intensity in scenics and other subjects with vast differences in brightness between dark foreground and pale sky or bright background, reducing color washout or plugged-up shadows. Gray version is neutral in color, and creates dramatic, vibrant landscapes. May be combined with a polarizer or other filter. color enhancer series graduated tone series wine graduated tone w-gt Controls exposure like the Gray version, but adds a rich rose tone to the bright portion of picture. Ideal for creating sunsets, mood, or special effects shots. sepia graduated tone s-gt Controls exposure like the Gray version, but adds a rich sepia tone to the bright areas. Use for setting a mood or special effect. special effects for color 9
soft effect se-a Add a controlled amount of blur to the entire image while maintaining basic image edges with the Soft Effect series. Perfect for a dreamlike appearance. Soft effect A offers a subtle change. soft effect se-b Adds more softness to subject than A version. Great for softening the appearance of hard-edged subjects. diffusion dif Softens highlights and hard edges for flattering portraits, smoothing out textures, blemishes, and lines. 10
fog effect fe Transforms sunny, clear landscapes into foggy ones by putting a soft glow around highlights and lowering contrast. Try this filter for dreamlike effects in nighttime cityscapes and window-lit interiors, too. vignette effect ve Blurs all image detail except for a sharp central spot, highlighting subject in a softedged circle. The size of the circle can be varied by choice of lens focal length. Ideal for portraits or for highlighting features in a scenics. cross star cs4x Creates a multi-colored four-pointed star centered on each specular light source, adding sparkle to candle flames, night scenes, chrome, and water. Can be rotated to vary angle. ALSO AVAILABLE: six-pointed and eightpointed star versions. soft effect series diffusion fog vignette cross star special effects for color or black and white 11
yellow y2 Lightens yellows and slightly deepens blues and purples. When used for landscapes, gives blue skies a natural appearance, and delineates clouds. Also good for natural, light skin tones. orange ya2 Lightens yellows, oranges, and reds, while deepening blues dramatically. Pictures have more pronounced contrast than with Yellow filter. Blue skies and marine scenes are ideal subjects. red r2 Lightens reds and deepens greens. Blue skies become almost black. Gives greatest contrast to pictures. Skin tones are lighter and freckles are less prominent. Autumn foliage is lightened. Underexpose for moonlight effects in sunlight, or combine with Polarizer for stunning landscapes. 12
light transmission characteristics of black and white filters NOTE: See page 3 for description of Ultraviolet UV filter. green p00, p01 Lightens greens and deepens reds and blues. Gives good detail delineation to landscapes. Deepens skin tones, and separates tones in multicolored subjects, such as flower gardens. Green P01 is darker than Green P00 for more dramatic effects, Reduces red emphasis under tungsten lighting.. yellow orange red green light transmission characteristics enhancement for black and white 13
light source conversion and balancing to match light to color film To determine which color balance or conversion filter to use, align a straight edge across scale A (original light source) and scale C (film being used or desired light value).the point where the straight edge crosses scale B will indicate which correction filter is needed. EXAMPLE: If you are shooting type B (tungsten) film in daylight, align your straight edge at daylight (5500 K) on scale A, and at type B film (3200 K) on scale C. On scale B you will see that you need an 85B filter for a neutralbalanced image on film. 14
