2 General warnings Please carefully read the enclosed instructions that include important points about the safety for the installation, usage and maintenance. Please keep this booklet with the unit for future consultation. If you sell the unit to another user be sure that he also gets this instruction booklet. The new owner will thus have all information about usage and relevant general warning. page 2 Not for residential use. After having opened the package, check the entire unit. In case of any doubt with this unit do not use until having consullted an authorized service centre. All possibly harmful parts of the package (plastic bags, foamed polystyrene, nails, etc.) should be kept out of chilldren s reach. This unit must be used only by adults. Do not let children tamper with it or play with it. The electricity work that is necessary for installation must be made by a qualified electrician or professional. Before connecting the unit, check that the data on the registration plate is the same as that of the electrical grid. It the socket and the plug are different, the socket should be changed and adapted by a professionally qualified person. He must also make sure that the sections of the socket cables suit the power absorbed by the unit. Do not use adapters, multiple sockets and/or extension cords. Should they be necessary only use simple or multiple adapters and extension cords that compy with safety regulations regarding quality and current-carryng capacity. Always disconnect the line cord from the socket by pulling its plug. Wet hands are dangerous. A violent shock could derive by touching the socket with wet hands. Do not put any object on the line cord and never bend the cord at acute angle. Install the fixture in an airy room at about 15 cm. from the walls. Never use the fixture under the following conditions: - In places subject to excessive humidity. - In places subject to vibrations or bumps. - Do not expose to temperatures above 40 C for long periods.. - Do not use in places with temperatures under 2 C. - Protect the fixture from excessive dryness or humidity (less than35% or more 80%). Do not dismantle or modify the fixture. Make certain that no inflammable liquids, water or metal objects enter the fixture, in that case immediately disconnect the main power. If you spill water on the unit be very careful, as a fire could break out or there could be a dangerous shock. Immediately disconnect the main power and contact the nearest SGM dealer. In the event of serious operating problems, stop using the unit immediately and either contact the nearest SGM sales point for a check, or contact the manufacturer directly. Do not open the unit. There are no user serviceable parts inside. Never try and repair the unit yourself. Repairs carried out by unskilled people can lead to damage or malfunctioning. Please contact the nearest authorized Technical Assistance Centre. Always require genuine spare parts. Protect our enviroment! Do not dispose of the packing cardboard boxes or the batteries with household waste! Please return them to a recycling centre or a collecting site for special waste.

4 General features The Displayer 250 graphic projector is a result of the cutting edge design policy which all SGM products have had in common for years and has been expressly built for projecting logos, information and publicity. Like every SGM product, it passed the firm s long trail period and strict tests brilliantly before being put on the market, ensuring high quality and reliability up to customary SGM standards. The unit s carefully studied lines and optimisation of the bodywork ensure functionality, as well as enabling easy installation in any position and making light work of any necessary maintenance. Built to current CE norms, Displayer is a stand-alone projector, i.e. one that can be used without any remote control. It has a very low voltage 2-pin halogen lamp, definitely ideal for this type of fixture, as it combines reliability over its long life (up to 300 hours) and astonishing luminous power with a ludicrously low price tag - definitely nowhere near that of the metal halide lamps mounted on other projectors of the same type. The special SGM-designed reflector concentrates the beam and the condenser lens in selected glass with a high transmission factor undergoes special multi-layer anti-glare treatment to further accentuate brightness and luminous power. Focussing is very easy, fast and really precise, thanks to the Focus screw knob on the front of the projector. Displayer has 8 standard colours obtained with 38 mm. dichroic filters, which are easily replaceable, so custom needs can be met. The carefully selected top quality filters ensure perfect colour uniformity. The group which holds the logos comprises a single 8-position wheel. They are all easily replaced, so the operator can install new images very quickly. 5 focus Positioning and focussing To position the projector, switch it on, set it in the required position by turning it on the support bracket, then lock it in place with the knobs on the bracket. Focussing the Displayer is very easy, fast and really precise, using the Focus screw knob on the front of the projector. Focussing is precise for all the projected images, thanks to the positioning on a single projection plane. Attention: due to the different physical characteristics of images reproduced on dichroic glass or metal (thickness of the support), Displayer must be fitted with just one of the two. If a combination of glass and metal is used, focussing won t be precise for both. focus To position one image use the dip-switch option #3 to have little steps for the perfect positioning. page 5 focus EN I appendice

6 Access and Maintenance Displayer has a very unusual system for access to the inside of the projector. Although being left hanging in the position it s installed in, the projector can be opened in half length-wise, thus enabling extremely easy access to the components inside to carry out any necessary work (cleaning, relamping or maintenance work on any mechanical or electronic parts, etc.). To open the projector, unscrew the 2 knobs on the front (see illustration), making certain that the lower part doesn t drop downwards when the unscrewing is finished. The opening is automatically locked in the fully open position. Attention: before opening the fixture after it has been used for a while, wait for at least 10 minute (the ideal time is 30 minutes), as the lamp and reflector reach temperatures able to cause serious burns if touched. fig. 1 fig. 3 focus fig. 3 After carrying out the necessary work, before pushing the lower part upwards (fig. 2) to close the projector, release the locking lever by raising it (fig. 3). Tighten the 2 knobs one after another, making absolutely certain that they are correctly hooked on to the lower part, to avoid it unexpectedly dropping down again. Relamping page 6 Before replacing the lamp: - make certain that replacement is actually necessary; - disconnect the fixture from the mains supply; - if the fixture was on, wait for the lamp and the internal mechanical parts to cool down before opening (about 30 minutes are necessary). Remove the burnt-out lamp. Make absolutely certain not to touch the lenses, reflector or the lamp itself with your bare hands, as residue burns at this high temperature, blackening the parts and definitively damaging the lamp. Fit the new lamp, mounting it carefully in its holder. To ensure correct protection, it s important that the lamp is perfectly fitted into the holder. Every time the lamp is replaced, it s advisable to always carry out a complete cleaning cycle.

7 Cleaning the projector Clean optics - inside and out - are decisive for luminous output and this work must be carried out periodically. The regularity with which cleaning is done depends above all on the surroundings in which the fixture is used: in particular, damp, very smoky or dusty surroundings cause dirt to build up on the fixture s optics. Always clean with a soft cloth and normal products for cleaning glass, or methylated spirits, always drying the parts carefully. Clean the outside of the lens at least every 15/20 days and the inside optics group at least every 40/60 days (condenser lenses, reflector). Replacing images and logos After having disconnected the projector from the main power supply, open it. If the fixture was in use, wait for the lamp and mechanical parts to cool (approximately 30 minutes are necessary). Using a small screwdriver, remove the spring (C), replace the gobo (B), then replace the spring, taking care to fit it perfectly on the special goboholder ring (A). Close the projector correctly again. Replacing colours After having disconnected the projector from the mains power, open it. If the fixture was in use, wait for the lamp and mechanical parts to cool (approximately 30 minutes are necessary). The colorwheel is made up of two parts, between which the colour filters are fitted into place. To replace them: using your fingers, very delicately open the two locking disks in the position corresponding to the dichroic filter to be replaced, remove the filter and fit the new one. Close the wheel and the projector correctly again. A B C Periodical checks To ensure that the fixture is always in perfect running order, it s advisable to carry out a periodic check every 700 running hours. Electrical and mechanical parts must be checked by expert technical staff. page 7 EN I appendice

8 Displayer 250 functions The Displayer 250 was designed and built for projecting logos and publicity images. It was therefore intended for use in every possible situation. Its functions are divided into two main groups: static and dynamic. Static use is when the Displayer projects a single image, e.g. an arrow indicating an exit. Dynamic use is when the projector uses all its positions for images (8 all together), projecting them one at a time at intervals chosen by the operator. One example is an installation in a sports shop, in which the logos of the key brands sold are projected. In the event of a particular installation requiring it, Displayer can carry out animation work in both static and dynamic modes. In fact, a function called dimmer sweep can be used which carries out a crossfade according to the illustration alongside, where the time (t) is chosen from those available. It s also possible to use Displayer s colors thanks to the rainbow function, during which the colorwheel rotates continuously. The last effect available is a 4-sided prism, which can be used to create an eye-catching image multiplication effect. Displayer 250 operating modes As already said, there are 2 operating modes: Static and Dynamic. Access is gained via the 4-position function dipswitch, on the right looking at the projector from the rear. The combinations to which this switch gives access are as follows: PIN 1 Static mode PIN 1 Dynamic mode. When the fixture is used in Static mode, the remaining 3 pins have the following functions: PIN 2 rainbow effect PIN 2 fixed colour PIN 3 no effect and fixed gobo PIN 3 gobo rotation enabled (or fixed gobo positioning) PIN 4 4-sided prism disabled PIN 4 4-sided prism enabled. In this mode only image N 1 is projected, the colour is white and there s a 45 second dimmer sweep. Example of use in dynamic mode The above is an example of setting for using the Displayer in dynamic mode. Here the projected image is changed every 90 seconds, the colour changed every 30 seconds, the 4- faceted prism inserted for 30 seconds every 30 seconds, and a there s a 20-second dimmer sweep. page 13 EN I appendice
