Understnding the printer softwre Your printer softwre works with your operting system to print documents with superior results. This softwre hs two prts: the Printer driver nd the Lexmrk Solution Center. Printer driver You cn chnge your printer settings in the printer driver. To print typicl document on plin pper, you do not need to chnge your printer settings. When you instll the printer softwre, the Pge Setup dilog ox nd the Print dilog ox re set to these defult settings: Understnding the printer softwre 6

7 Qulity/Speed: Norml Type: Plin Pper Pper Size: A4 or Letter Orienttion: Portrit Lyout: Norml For more informtion out the printer settings for different types of print jos, see Printing ides on pge 10. Customizing the settings for your document 1 With your document open, click File Print. The Print dilog ox ppers. 2 From the Print dilog ox, click Properties, Preferences, or Options. 3 From the Qulity/Copies t, select print qulity setting. 4 From the Pper Setup t, select pper type nd size setting. 5 From the Print Lyout t, chnge the lyout of your document. 6 Click OK to pply your settings. Qulity/Copies t From: Qulity/Speed Multiple Copies Select: Quick Print when you wnt to print documents quickly, ut with reduced print qulity. Norml when you wnt to print most documents on plin pper. Better when you wnt to print photos nd documents contining grphics on coted or glossy pper. Best when you wnt to print crisp photos nd high resolution grphics, ut with reduced speeds. Collte Copies if you wnt to print more thn one copy of document. This option prints ll the pges of the first copy, nd then ll the pges of the second copy, nd so on. Print Lst Pge First if you wnt to print the pges in reverse order. The numer of copies you wnt to print. Print Color Imges in Blck nd White to sve the ink in your color crtridge. Note: This option is not ville if lck crtridge is not instlled. Understnding the printer softwre 7

8 Pper Setup t From: Type Select: Plin Pper, Envelope, Bnner, Coted Pper, Photo/Glossy Pper, Trnsprency, Iron-On Trnsfer, or Crd Stock. Pper Size A size specific to your pper type. If your pper size is not listed, select Custom Size. For help, see Printing on custom size pper on pge 40. Orienttion Portrit or Lndscpe. Print Lyout t From: Lyout Duplexing Select: Norml, Bnner, Mirror, N-up, Poster, or Booklet. Two-Sided to print your document on oth sides of the pge. Side Flip or Top Flip to set which wy the pges of your finished documents turn. Note: If you select Side Flip, the pges of your document turn like the pges of mgzine. If you select Top Flip, the pges turn like the pges of legl pd. Lexmrk Solution Center The Lexmrk 510 Series Solution Center (LSC) is guide you cn refer to for printer help. 10 2 Printing ides Printing on plin pper You cn lod up to 100 sheets of plin pper t time, depending on the thickness of the pper. Step 1: Lod the pper Lod the pper verticlly ginst the right side of the pper support. Do not force the pper into the printer. Squeeze nd slide the pper guide to the left side of the pper. Note: If you re using letter size pper, djusting the pper guide my not e necessry. Printing ides 10

11 Step 2: Customize the print settings If you re using plin A4 or letter size pper, nd you wnt to print with norml print qulity, you do not need to djust the settings. If you re using specilty medi, follow the steps for your pper type. Step 3: Print your document Click OK. Printing photos You cn lod up to 50 sheets of coted, photo, or glossy pper t time, depending on the thickness of the pper. You my wnt to print on plin pper efore loding your photo pper nd chnging your settings. To print on photo crds, see Printing crds on pge 17. Step 1: Lod the photo pper For est results, use photo pper tht is mde for inkjet printers. If your pper includes instructions, red them crefully. Lod the photo pper verticlly ginst the right side of the pper support. Mke sure the glossy or coted side is fcing you. Do not force the pper into the printer. Printing photos 11

12 Squeeze nd slide the pper guide to the left side of the photo pper. Note: If you re using letter size pper, djusting the pper guide my not e necessry. Step 2: Customize the print settings 1 With your document open, click File Print. The Print dilog ox ppers. 2 From the Print dilog ox, click Properties, Preferences, or Options. 3 Select print qulity: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Qulity/Copies t. From the Qulity/Speed re, select Better or Best. Note: Higher print qulity settings result in etter qulity documents, ut my tke longer to print. 4 Select pper type: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Pper Setup t. From the Type re, select Photo/Glossy Pper or Coted Pper. 5 Select pper size: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Pper Setup t. From the Pper Size menu, select the correct size. 13 Step 3: Print your photos Click OK. Note: To prevent smudging, remove ech photo s it exits the printer, nd then let it dry efore stcking. Printing on premium or coted pper You cn lod up to 100 pges of premium pper t time, depending on the thickness of the pper. Step 1: Lod the premium or coted pper If your pper includes instructions, red them crefully. Lod the premium pper verticlly ginst the right side of the pper support. If there is specil mrk on the pper, mke sure the mrk is fcing wy from you. Do not force the pper into the printer. Note: Squeeze nd slide the pper guide to the left side of the pper.if you re using letter size pper, djusting the pper guide my not e necessry. Printing on premium or coted pper 13

14 Step 2: Customize the print settings 1 With your document open, click File Print. The Print dilog ox ppers. 2 From the Print dilog ox, click Properties, Preferences, or Options. 3 Select print qulity: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Qulity/Copies t. From the Qulity/Speed re, select Better or Best. Note: Higher print qulity settings result in etter qulity documents, ut my tke longer to print. 4 Select pper type: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Pper Setup t. From the Type re, select Plin Pper. 5 Select pper size: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Pper Setup t. From the Pper Size menu, select the correct size. For more informtion out printing on custom size pper, see Printing on custom size pper on pge Click OK. Step 3: Print your document Click OK. Note: The pper exit try holds up to 25 sheets of premium pper. If you wnt to print more thn 25 pges, remove the first 25 sheet, efore you continue printing. Printing on oth sides of sheet of pper You cn conserve pper y printing on oth sides. Lod up to 100 sheets of pper t time, depending on the thickness of the pper. 15 Step 1: Lod the pper Lod the pper verticlly ginst the right side of the pper support. Do not force the pper into the printer. Mke sure the print side is fcing you. Squeeze nd slide the pper guide to the left side of the pper. Note: If you re using letter size pper, djusting the pper guide my not e necessry. Note: For the est print qulity, use hevier weight pper. Step 2: Customize the print settings 1 With your document open, click File Print. The Print dilog ox ppers. 2 From the Print dilog ox, click Properties, Preferences, or Options. Printing on oth sides of sheet of pper 15

16 3 Print on oth sides of the pge: c From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Print Lyout t. From the Duplexing re, select Two-Sided. Select Side Flip or Top Flip. If you select Side Flip, the pges of your document turn like the pges of mgzine. If you select Top Flip, the pges turn like the pges of legl pd. d e Check the steps for your pper type to further customize your document. Click OK. Step 3: Print your document Click OK. The odd-numered pges print first, long with reloding instruction pge. When the odd-numered pges finish printing, the printer softwre prompts you to relod the pper. 1 Lod the stck of pper nd reloding instruction pge with the printed side fcing wy from you nd the rrows pointing down into the pper support. 2 Click Continue Printing. The even-numered pges print. If you do not wnt to print the reloding instruction pge: From Print Properties dilog ox, click Options Style Options. c Cler the Print Instruction pge to ssist in reloding check ox. Click OK. 17 Printing crds You cn lod up to 25 greeting crds, index crds, photo crds, or postcrds t time, depending on the thickness of the crds. Step 1: Lod the crds If your crds include instructions, red them crefully. Lod the crds verticlly ginst the right side of the pper support. Mke sure the print side is fcing you. Do not force the crds into the printer. Squeeze nd slide the pper guide to the left side of the crds. Step 2: Customize the print settings 1 With your document open, click File Print. The Print dilog ox ppers. Printing crds 17

18 2 From the Print dilog ox, click Properties, Preferences, or Options. 3 Select print qulity: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Qulity/Copies t. From the Qulity/Speed re, select Better or Best if you re printing on photo crds or greeting crds. Select Norml for other types of crds. 4 Select pper type: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Pper Setup t. From the Type re, select Crd Stock. 5 Select pper size: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Pper Setup t. From the Pper Size menu, select the correct size. For more informtion out printing on custom size pper, see Printing on custom size pper on pge Click OK. Step 3: Print your crds Click OK. Printing envelopes You cn lod up to 10 envelopes t time, depending on the thickness of the envelopes. Step 1: Lod the envelopes Note: Do not use envelopes with holes, windows, deep emossing, metl clsps, string ties, or folding rs. Printing envelopes 18

19 Lod the envelopes verticlly ginst the right side of the pper support. Mke sure the print side is fcing you. Mke sure the stmp loction is in the upper left corner. Do not force the envelopes into the printer. Squeeze nd slide the pper guide to the left side of the envelopes. Step 2: Customize the print settings 1 With your document open, click File Print. The Print dilog ox ppers. 2 From the Print dilog ox, click Properties, Preferences, or Options. 3 Select pper type: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Pper Setup t. From the Type re, select Envelope. Printing envelopes 19

20 4 Select n envelope size: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Pper Setup t. From the Envelope Size menu, select the correct size. For more informtion out printing on custom size pper, see Printing on custom size pper on pge Select the orienttion: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Pper Setup t. From the Orienttion re, select Lndscpe. 6 Click OK. Note: Mny softwre progrms re designed to override the settings in Pper Setup. Mke sure lndscpe orienttion is selected in your softwre progrm. Step 3: Print your envelopes Click OK. Note: The pper exit try holds up to 10 envelopes. If you wnt to print more thn 10 envelopes, remove the first 10 from the pper exit try efore the others print. Printing color imges in lck nd white You cn lod up to 100 sheets of pper t time, depending on the thickness of the pper. Printing color imges in lck helps to conserve ink in your color print crtridge. Step 1: Lod the pper Lod the pper verticlly ginst the right side of the pper support. Mke sure the print side is fcing you. Printing color imges in lck nd white 20

Step 2: Customize the print settings 1 With your document open, click File Print. The Print dilog ox ppers. 2 From the Print dilog ox, click Properties, Preferences, or Options. 3 To print color imges in lck nd white: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Qulity/Copies t. c Select Print Color Imges in Blck nd White. Click OK. 4 Further customize your document following the steps for your pper type. Step 3: Print your document Click OK. Note: The pper exit try holds up to 50 sheets of plin pper. 22 Printing ooklet You cn print nd undle your document to mke ooklet. You cn lod up to 100 sheets of pper t time, depending on the thickness of the pper. Step 1: Lod the pper Lod the pper verticlly ginst the right side of the pper support. Mke sure the print side is fcing you. Do not force the pper into the printer. Squeeze nd slide the pper guide to the left side of the pper. Note: If you re using letter size pper, djusting the pper guide my not e necessry. Printing ooklet 22

23 Step 2: Customize the print settings 1 With your document open, click File Print. The Print dilog ox ppers. 2 From the Print dilog ox, click Properties, Preferences, or Options. 3 Select pper size: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Pper Setup t. From the Pper Size menu, select A4 or Letter. 4 Select print lyout: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Print Lyout t. From the Lyout re, select Booklet. 5 Enter the numer of sheets per undle. Note: A undle is group of pges tht re folded in hlf nd stcked efore inding. Very thick undles my not fold well, so if you re printing with thick pper, use fewer printed sheets per undle. From Print Properties dilog ox, click Options Style Options. Enter the numer of sheets you wnt in ech undle nd then click OK. 6 Click OK to close the Print Properties dilog ox. Printing ooklet 23

24 Step 3: Print your document Click OK. After the first hlf of your ooklet nd the reloding instruction pge prints, your printer softwre prompts you to relod the pper. 1 Insert the stck of pper nd the reloding instruction pge with the printed side fcing wy from you nd the rrows pointing down into the pper support. 2 Click Continue Printing. If you do not wnt to print the reloding instruction pge: 1 From Print Properties dilog ox, click Options Style Options. 2 Cler the Print instruction pge to ssist in reloding check ox. 3 Click OK. Step 4: Build your ooklet After your document prints, stck the undles together nd ind your ooklet. Printing ooklet 24

25 To uild your ooklet: 1 Remove the first undle from the pper exit try, fold it in hlf, nd set it side. 2 Remove the next undle, fold it in hlf, nd then stck it on top of the first undle. 3 Continue to stck the undles on top of ech other until your ooklet is complete. 4 Bind the undles to complete your ooklet. Printing lels You cn lod up to 25 sheets of lels t time, depending on the thickness of the sheets. Step 1: Lod the lels Use lels designed for inkjet printers. If your lels include instructions, red them crefully. Do not print within 1 mm (0.04 in.) of the edge of lel. Lod the lels verticlly ginst the right side of the pper support. Mke sure there re no missing or curled lels. Printing lels 25

26 Mke sure the print side is fcing you. Do not force the lels into the printer. Squeeze nd slide the pper guide to the left side of the lels. Note: If you re using letter size sheets of lels, djusting the pper guide my not e necessry. Step 2: Customize the print settings 1 With your document open, click File Print. The Print dilog ox ppers. 2 From the Print dilog ox, click Properties, Preferences, or Options. 3 Select print qulity: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Qulity/Copies t. From the Qulity/Speed re, select Norml. 4 Select pper type: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Pper Setup t. From the Type re, select Plin Pper. 5 Select pper size: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Pper Setup t. From the Pper Size menu, select the correct size. 27 Step 3: Print your lels Click OK. Note: The pper exit try holds up to 10 sheets of lels. If you wnt to print more thn 10 sheets, remove the first 10 sheets from the pper exit try efore the others print. Printing hndouts You cn conserve pper y printing hndouts, or multiple pge imges, on single sheet of pper. Lod up to 100 sheets of pper t time, depending on the thickness of the pper. Step 1: Lod the pper Lod the pper verticlly ginst the right side of the pper support. Mke sure the print side is fcing you. Do not force the pper into the printer. Printing hndouts 27

28 Squeeze nd slide the pper guide to the left side of the pper. Note: If you re using letter size pper, djusting the pper guide my not e necessry. Note: For the est print qulity, use hevier weight pper. Step 2: Customize the print settings 1 With your document open, click File Print. The Print dilog ox ppers. 2 From the Print dilog ox, click Properties, Preferences, or Options. 3 Select print lyout: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Print Lyout t. c d From the Lyout re, select N-up. Select the numer of pges (two, three, four, or eight) you wnt to print on single sheet of pper. If you wnt to print order round ech pge imge, select Print Pge Borders. 4 To print on oth sides of the pper: c From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Print Lyout t. From the Duplexing re, select Two-Sided. Select Side Flip or Top Flip inding. 5 Click OK. If you select Side Flip, the pges of your document turn like the pges of mgzine. If you select Top Flip, the pges turn like the pges of legl pd. Printing hndouts 28

29 Step 3: Print your hndouts Click OK. If you formtted your hndouts to print on one side of the pge, you re finished. If you formtted your hndouts to print on oth sides of the pge, continue printing your hndouts. 1 After the first hlf of your hndouts prints, your printer softwre prompts you to relod the pper. Insert the pper nd reloding instruction pge with the printed side fcing wy from you nd the rrows pointing down into the pper support. 2 Click Continue Printing. If you do not wnt to print the reloding instruction pge: 1 From Print Properties dilog ox, click Options Style Options. 2 Cler the Print instruction pge to ssist in reloding check ox. 3 Click OK. Printing poster You cn enlrge single pge imge to print on multiple pges. For exmple, you cn enlrge photogrph to print s four-, nine-, or 16-pge poster. Print up to 100 sheets of pper t time, depending on the thickness of the pper. Printing poster 29

The Print dilog ox ppers. 2 From the Print dilog ox, click Properties, Preferences, or Options Printing poster 30

31 3 Select print qulity: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Qulity/Copies t. From the Qulity/Speed re, select Norml. Note: Higher print qulity settings result in etter print qulity, ut my tke longer to print. 4 Select print lyout: From Print Properties dilog ox, select the Print Lyout t. From the Lyout re, select Poster. 5 Select your poster size: Select the size of your poster: 2 x 2 (four pges totl), 3 x 3 (nine pges totl), or 4 x 4 (16 pges totl). Select Print Crop Mrks if you wnt help cutting the edges of your pges. 6 If you need to reprint selection of pges: Click Select Pges To Print... The pges tht re not going to print hve circle nd r symol over the numer nd re shded. Select or cler ech pge y clicking it. Click OK. 7 Click OK. Step 3: Print your poster Click OK. Assemle your poster 1 On ech printed pge, trim the white edges from two djcent sides. For exmple, trim the white edge from the top nd left sides of ech pge. Printed pges with the white edge trimmed from two djcent sides Trimmed edges Untrimmed edges Printing poster 31

32 2 Arrnge the pges so tht every trimmed edge overlps n untrimmed edge (the white edge). 3 Tpe the cks of the pges together. 4 To complete your poster, trim ny remining white edges. Printing iron-on trnsfers You cn lod up to 100 iron-on trnsfers t time, depending on the thickness of the trnsfers. You my wnt to print on plin pper efore loding your iron-on trnsfers. Note: For est results, lod one iron-on trnsfer t time. Step 1: Lod the iron-on trnsfers If your iron-on trnsfers include instructions, red them crefully. Lod the iron-on trnsfers verticlly ginst the right side of the pper support. Mke sure the print side (lnk side) is fcing you. Do not force the iron-on trnsfers into the printer. 33 Squeeze nd slide the pper guide to the left side of the iron-on trnsfers. Note: If you re using letter size iron-on trnsfers, djusting the pper guide my not e necessry. Step 2: Customize the print settings 1 With your document open, click File Print.
