2 TRADE FAIRS Hello again, We are always receiving super success stories from our customers, which we just love to share - as in this edition: At the end of 2014, the photographer and blogger Ben Hammer presented his project Randnotizen (Commentaries), in Berlin on SIHL MAS- TERCLASS Smooth Matt Cotton Paper The collection was put together especially for the exhibition in the LE- OLUX brand store, with the aim of enchanting the audience. The search for an alternative to the expensive adhesive films for short application in display window advertising has finally come to an end for PPS Imaging Group: Whose project sees the successful implementation of the EasyTack film, SyntiSol PP Film Kisscut 325 satin To ensure further successes we can now offer you brand new products: the existing portfolio of the design- 2wall collection has been expanded with the introduction of four new wallpapers. Compared to the classic non-woven wallpapers the new fibreglass wallpapers stand out due to their easy cutting characteristics and special coating, in addition to the excellent image quality and durability. The two new prepasted wallpapers in the style+ range offer more versatile additional features compared to other wall coverings. The Product group POS Media also sees a new category Wall Graphics containing the new WallGrafX products. The WallGrafX products are self-adhesive polyester fabric products with a coating receptive of either solvent based or waterbased inks. More details to the new products can be found on pages 4 and 8. 3 PPS.Imaging Group reference customer of Sihl Direct is set for growth The long-term partnership was crowned with a special gift in time for St Nicholas day! LTR S. Goldacker, C. Lausch, S. Gatzke, S. Hufnagel (PPS), C. Heldt (Sihl Direct) For PPS Imaging, Sihl Direct sweetened the closing of 2014, with an extra-special gift. The teams based in Berlin and cologne were each personally presented with new black work polo shirts, by sales representative Christian Heldt. The polo shirts have been designed with the logos of both companies and symbolise the close cooperation between the two companies, which has been strengthened in recent years. The PPS Imaging Group, with their six national and two international locations, and 250 employees, belong to the leading European large format print service providers. Offers are based on customer orientated solutions for trade show stands, POS, outdoor advertising, PR activity, presentation concepts and database management. For many years, Sihl Direct, as competent solutions partner and specialists in large format digital printing, have supported PPS in all areas: from consultation and problem-free printing systems installation to the correct choice of media through to smooth operation and excellent print results. The best example was the acquisition of a HP Latex 360 in autumn Capacity was to be increased, production processes were to be optimised and the diversity of printing materials was to be expanded. Successful application of Sihl SyntiSol PP Film Kisscut As traditional suppliers of print films and laminates, Sihl Direct are naturally the first source of contact when looking for alternative products to the expensive self-adhesive films for short-term display window advertising. Since autumn last year, PPS have been successfully using the EasyTask film SyntiSol PP Film Kisscut 325 satin (3531) for this project. Thanks to its low-tack adhesion the PVC-free film, that can be printed on UV flatbeds and the new HP Latex 360, can be applied, repositioned and removed without leaving residue: Making it not only suitable for professional sign makers, but also for shop fitters and inexperienced users, who, for example, could apply and change seasonal promotions themselves. It was not only the easy handling and outstanding print qualities of the print & cut film that led to the shift to the Sihl product, the unbeatable cost / performance ratio played a big part too. 4 Innovative products for personalised interiors The existing design2wall collection has been expanded with four new wallpapers. Individually, personalised printable wallpaper is a fast growing market in creative interior design. Sihl delivers specialised and innovative wallpapers which go beyond the limits of the wishes of every customer and the requirements of every designer. The additions to design- 2wall collection of individualised wall decoration are characterised by particularly superb processing properties, print results, and mounting abilities. Attractive features for impressive wall images For digital printing, non-woven wallpapers dominate the market: in terms of handling and durability they have the best possible advantages. In comparison to classic non-woven wallpapers, the new Sihl glass-fibre products go one better with their easy cutting together with the coating, which also allows excellent image quality and durability. Emphasis is put on two further advantages - mechanical strength and resistance to moisture. Compared to other products with double-seam cut, no exertive force is needed and the blade remains sharp, in addition to this the seams of the glass-fibre product is much cleaner and become virtually invisible to the naked eye, especially with very high quality photo and graphic pattern prints. The new Glass-fibre design2wall Latex 260 matt 2521 is much easier to paste and thanks to its diffusion properties easily adapts to uneven walls. The new Glass Textile design2wall Latex 260 matt 2523 wallpaper exhibits two major strengths: On the one hand the subtle surface structure ensures a lively reproduction of the images in the print, beneficial for paintings, sketches, or nature depictions. On the other hand the product is highly durable and less susceptible to edge-cracking. 6 Ben Hammer Discover the charm of printed art Photographer Ben Hammer presents his project Randnotizen (Commentaries) on Sihl MASTERCLASS Smooth Matt Cotton Paper. The response to his first exhibition, at the Stilwerk in Berlin, immensely impressed the young photographer Ben Hammer: After all, printed on the Sihl MASTERCLASS Smooth Matt Cotton Paper 320 (4852), the prints measured 118 x 160 cms. They received such a tremendous feedback that at the beginning of the year, the enthusiastic blogger posted a video blog "Time for Prints" - searching for and encouraging people to send in their "prints" - in the cool and classic manner of "photos to touch, hang and admire". Born 1990 in cologne, Ben Hammers passion and enthusiasm is the only true foundation of his success. This builds the personal aspect of his work as a young photographer. Luck fell upon him at the end of 2014 when he opened his first solo exhibition, Randnotizen (Commentaries) in Stilwerk in Berlin. The collection produced and complied of images mainly from photoshoots and blog productions inevitably drew the audience under their spell, were put together especially to be exhibited in the German brand store LE- OLUX. Ben Hammer probably chose to print his images on an extra fine art creative paper to achieve exactly this desired effect. His choice fell upon the SIHL MASTERCLASS Smooth Matt Cotton Paper 320 (4852), a media from the SIHL MASTERCLASS Creative Art series which has a very fine, smooth surface. The visual power of prints Ben Hammer, who has been blogging news from the world of music, photography, art, culture and videos, daily since 2010, supporting printed photos, stated in his blog: We want to prove to the online world that print is more alive than ever before. What started as a private blog, has over the last few years become a source of inspiration for people interested in Photography. Photography has enabled him to contact 6

7 people, lifestyles and new experiences. He shoots daily life, creates documentation and dreams of his own, first photo book. For him, the most important factor is that the image has the best effect when printed in large format thanks to its individual haptic. Special fine art papers are particularly ideal to give his photos their completely unique look. The Sihl Smooth Matt Cotton Paper 320 (4852) is a media that entrances users and viewers alike. 8 Revive your walls! Self-adhesive WallGrafX PET for waterbased, solvent and latex inks. BERNEXPO GROUP is a versatile Live-Marketing company that has spent over 60 years developing and organising high quality events and shows. Alongside events in their own premises the company organises fairs and congresses in various locations in Switzerland. A very important component of a successful exhibition lies in the printing and application of temporary graphics, information and decorations: BERNEXPO GROUP understand and cherish this and have been operating their own printing department for many years. The printing department is a valued customer of Sihl Direct CH. As the time period between two different shows/ events can be very short, BERNEXPO GROUP were looking for a product compatible with their in-house HP L26500 printer that would produce excellent prints with media that is to handle and simple to mount to almost any flat surface. With the new Sihl WallGrafX products BERNEXPO GROUP finally found a desirable solution. WallGrafX is a self-adhesive polyester fabric with either a receptive coating for solvent or waterbased inks. During the product development phase, two events were designed using the WallGrafX products. The first event was SwissSkills Bern 2014, a championship of professionals, whereby 130 young apprentices from trade, industry and service sectors compete against each other. Here the BERNEX- PO GROUP took the opportunity to test the waterbased variety, 3519 WallGrafX PET Fabric SA 345 matt. Not only was the event team impressed with the excellent print quality but also how easy mounting was, which allowed record time for finishing the stands. The glue and fabric combination of this product have been optimised for simple application: allowing bubble-free application and repositioning of large format prints. Even the removal was impressive: thanks to newly developed adhesive the removal is effortless and leaves no surface residue behind. For the second event BAM-Berner Ausbildungsmesse (Bern Apprenticeship event) the same media was used. Thanks to the experience gained from SwissSkills Bern 2014 show with the waterbased variation, the redesign and change of stands had never been so easy, quick, and effective. The absolute dimensional stability of the polyester fabric prevents problems that often occur, due to fluctuations in temperature or humidity during the show/ event, when using other adhesive products. The BERNEXPO GROUP team will be using this WallGrafX product for their next event, the BEA from 24th April until the 3rd May, together with the solvent variation 3520 WallGrafX PET 8

9 Fabric Solvent SA 360 satin. This product can be problem-free printed with latex inks too, making it ready for direct application after printing. Just like the prints on 3519 WallGrafX PET Fabric SA 345 matt, prints on this media stand out thanks to colour brilliance and its slight fabric structure.
