19 Rain: Auvers Look at the painting and then read about it. One of Van Gogh s favourite poems is called The Rainy Day. It is by Henry Longfellow. My life is cold and dark and dreary It rains, and the wind is never weary Into each life some rain must fall, Some days must be dark and dreary. Weary means tired. Dreary means dull and not interesting. This painting shows the village of Auvers in France. In May 1890 Van Gogh came to Auvers and he painted these fields many times.
