4 Landscape Art Nowadays, landscape is a very popular subject-matter in art but it has not always been highly valued. Landscape was traditionally considered lower in status than portraiture, which customers would pay much more for. In the past, rules of perspective, use of colour and effective compositions were all things that had to be experimented with. Painting landscapes presented a great challenge to artists and many rose to that challenge making it an important genre in its own right.

32 Hundertwasser Hundertwasser was born on 15th December 1928 in Vienna, Austria. He became one of the best-known contemporary Austrian artists by the end of the 20th century. Hundertwasser produced many different types of works of art (ranging from paintings, postage stamps, clothes, flags).

33 His work often includes bright colours, natural forms, spirals and he rarely used straight lines. He also became interested in architecture and he designed many houses using irregular forms and bold use of colour.
