3 Exercise 2: What s the word? (4-5 minutes) Read the following dialog with your tutor and try to use context clues to fill in the blanks with the most appropriate word. You can find the missing word from the pool of words at the bottom. Two art students are talking about the art robbery in a Museum in Paris. Alain: Hi Beatrice, have you read about the robbery of paintings by famous artists from the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, France recently? Beatrice: Yes, I read about that. It was reported all over the world because the museum important art collections of famous painters. The stolen paintings are valued at over 123 million dollars Alain: It looks like the robbery of the paintings was carefully planned. Officials have admitted that the Museum of Modern Art's alarm system, which the art objects, was not properly working for several weeks. Beatrice: It feels sad to think that when people the museum now to see these masterpieces, they will now look at a blank wall. 4 II. GRAMMAR REVIEW: General Description: Topic: Verb Tenses Part 2 (Basic Present) (5-6 minutes) 1. Use the present simple: a) To talk about things that are always true: Curators work in museums b) To talk about general facts about our lives: We live near an art gallery. c) With words like never/sometimes/often/always: They often buy sculptures. Or time expressions like every day: I visit the painting shops every day. d) To talk about regular or repeated actions: I volunteer at the National Museum during summers. 2. The form of the verb changes with pronouns - he/she/it. I work in a museum. You work in a museum. He/She/It works in a museum. 3. With verbs that end in o/ss/ch/sh/x/z the present simple form is es. go - He goes to an art exhibition every month. watch - She watches a lot of documentaries on the lives of artists. finish - The film convention finishes at 9:30 tonight. 4. With verbs that end in consonant y, the he/she/it present simple form is -ies study He studies Asian potteries. fly - The plane flies twice a week to the site where they found the ancient art works. Remember: For verbs ending in vowel + y, just add s: Examples: I play - he plays. I buy - she buys. Comprehension Check: What verb form would you use for the sentence below? Please give an example.
