Definitions: Line: A long, narrow mark or band Shape: A two-dimensional line that encloses a space. Form: A three-dimensional object that represents length, width, and depth. Pattern: Repeated visual elements Color: Light reflected off of objects back to the eye. Texture: Surface quality that can be seen and felt Value (also known as tone): The lightness or darkness of a color. Sources
Researched Texture Artist s Name Title of Artwork Christine Krainock The Joyful Dancer Year it was made: September 14th 2015 Price: Not specified Size: inches! Website/Book where I Explanation of Dominant The dominant element of art for this painting is texture because this picture was painted by using a knife to carve out and create texture as well as a picture. The part that has the most texture was the skirt of the dancer (in the picture), as you can see the the artist (Christine Krainock) have used thick acrylic paint and dot it on the picture (and when acrylic paint dries it becomes the texture of the painting.
Where it can be found in As said above, it can be found in the skirt of the dancer, as the dotted colourful acrylic paint. But overall, the texture is all the picture, since the author used acrylic paint. However, it is not quite visible for the body of the dancer herself, since the artist, Christine Krainock, used quite a dark colour for the body. The texture can also be found in the background, even if it looks like the background is a plain background with very less colour at all, there is actually some light colour (that does not cause texture), what causes the texture is the dots. There are dots in the background that are created with thick acrylic paint (so it causes texture). I selected this painting as because it is clear that there is texture in this painting. Even though without colour and other elements of art, the texture would still be clear, the colour and the other elements help made the picture looked more textured. This painting is also created directly focusing towards the element of texture. Researched Artist s Name Title of Artwork Year it was made: Pattern Maori people Maori Design Print Hundreds of years ago Price: Not specified Size: cm!
Website/Book where I Explanation of Dominant The dominant element of art for this painting is pattern. This painting shows pattern that are repeated over and over. There are four different patterns in this artwork. This piece of artwork was made hundreds of years ago in New Zealand, we are not sure who made it but it is somebody in the Maori type. The upper photo is a digital redo of the old one (since I cannot find a picture of the original one). Where it can be found in The pattern can be found easily in this artwork. There are four different patterns, and each pattern is layered on top of each other, so we can see where each patterns are at. It is also separated quite clearly because two of the patterns are quite similar. They separate the similar ones and put the other pattern in between so that we can see the separation of patterns. I selected this painting as because the pattern is shown well in this painting. There are patterns that separate similar patterns so it is more clear, and the patterns are also clearly repeated on the opposite direction of each other. Researched Line Artist s Name Title of Artwork Maori people Barnett Newman Year it was made: Sold on tuesday May 14 Price: 43.8 million dollars Size: Not listed
! Website/Book where I Explanation of Dominant The dominant element of art for this painting is line. This painting may not look like it is drawn with a lot of lines, but there is one line in the middle of the painting that is painted in white (on blue background). This painting was sold for 43.8 million dollars! Where it can be found in The line is quite big and bold in the middle of the painting. It is a white line on the blue background right. The line is not exactly in a bright white tone, but it is a bit of a light blue-white colour, so it doesn t stand out from the background that much. However, the line is quite thick so you can clearly spot it even if the colour doesn t stand out. I selected this painting as because unlike other paintings, when we talk about lines, we think out line shading with pencil or thin headed pens in highly detailed photos. This painting is the opposite to that, it is a really simple painting with a line in the middle that is painted by white paint, showing that this element, lines, can also be used this way. This painting also only shows this element only, since the colour doesn t contrast, there are no textures, etc.
Researched Shape Artist s Name Title of Artwork Pablo Picasso Three musicians Year it was made: The summer of 1921 Price: Not for sale Size: More than 2 meters wide and high! Website/Book where I Explanation of Dominant The dominant element of art in this picture is shape. As shown above, the artist, pablo picasso, uses shapes to create other structure. There are all times of shapes, but mostly it is triangles and rectangles. In this picture, there are three musicians playing each instrument, and their body and face is a shape. Where it can be found in You can see the shapes forming up to be the musician s body. But basically, you can find this element of art all over this picture, since everything is made out of shape. I have selected this as because most shape arts just has the shape shaded, however, this piece of art actually uses the shapes to form something else, making the shapes useful in this painting (and also clear).
Researched Form Artist s Name Title of Artwork Herman Kuypers Rietveld Reflection Year it was made: The summer of 1921 Price: 10,665 baht Size: 14.2 H 6.7 W 0.4 in! Website/Book where I / /view
Explanation of Dominant The dominant element of art in this picture is form. The artist uses shading to make the object looks 3D (looks as if it is coming up from the paper). This is form. Darker shading in parts that are shadowed, and light shades in parts that are highlights (the highest). Where it can be found in You can find in in the object the artist is trying to draw. You can see that the artist uses shading to make the object looks as if it is coming up. This technique (from my research), could also be called eye illusion. Not the illusion in the way that makes you dizzy, but it is telling the eye that this is a real object by using realistic shadings and shapes. I have selected this artwork as because it really looks like it is popping up, making it look really 3D. Form is about using length and width to make the picture look 3D, and I can see this picture doing that really clearly. Researched Title of Artwork Value Autumn trees Paint used: Watercolour!
Website/Book where I Explanation of Dominant The dominant element of art in this picture is value. The artist uses watercolour (colours) that contrast each other (black and yellow). You can see that sometimes, important signs uses black and yellow, and that make the sign look more visible (because the two colour contrasts). On the black part, the artists using full on black, but on the background, the author just painted with yellow, orange and a little bit of red. Since it is also a watercolor painting, I didn t think the artist would be able to paint the colours to make it look this deep and bright, from extra research I knew that you would have to layer the colours many time until we can get this. The author also makes the shading in the background, yellow to red. Where it can be found in You can see the contrast of the colour of the trees (or something), to the background. The tree is painted in full black, while the background is a gradient colour of yellow, orange, and a little bit of red. It can be I have selected this artwork as because it really looks like it is popping up, making it look really 3D. Form is about using length and width to make the picture look 3D, and I can see this picture doing that really clearly. Artist s Name Colour Jackson Pollock Title of Artwork No. 5, 1948 Year it was made: 1948 Paint used: Liquid paint Size: 240 cm 120 cm (8 ft 4 ft)!
Website/Book where I Explanation of Dominant The dominant element of art in this picture is colour. The artist splattered paint on top of each other over and over again to create this piece of abstract art. Where it can be found in You can see the use of colours all over the painting. Although it might be quite hard to see, since the paint is quite the same tone that is splattered, but you can still see the element in this artwork. I have selected this artwork as because it is quite clear that the element is colour. You can see that the difference that created the abstract is the colour of the paint used. Self assessment- A- For this criterion, I think I would get a 6, since I demonstrated knowledge of art in my research as well as my painting. I also demonstrated my skills and techniques in the painting I have made. B- I think I would get a 7 for this criterion, since I did have improved a lot. As you can see, I wasn t able to paint something like this before, but now I knew new techniques that are able to help me. It is also clear that I improved through my timing and organisation because for the first painting, it took me really long, but the other paintings took me only one day to finish (and the quality is still the same). C- For this criterion, I am not sure what grade I will exactly get but i think it would be quite good, since I was creative about the theme. It is really hard to refer to an element of art with the same theme, but I tried to think very hard and be creative and I did it! (I also need to connect what the animal is doing to the animal, for example for texture, I made the bear pour out honey, and for form, I made the elephant blow out bubbles). D- I am also not sure what I would exactly get for this criterion, but all I know is that connected my artwork to the world around me and try to make each animal do what they actually do in real life (or at least the things people think they would do, for example the bear and the honey).
Artwork - Colour - 1. How did the art work you researched influence the art work you created yourself for each of the 7 elements of art? For this element, colour, my research has told me that this element is all about the use of colour. I got the idea that for this element, it doesn t exactly have to the the contrast of colours, but it can also be the use of colour as well (That is why I choose to make a rainbow, since I think the colour in the rainbow looks good when we line them up together to make a rainbow). 2. Where is the element of art found in your work? The element of art is found in the rainbow that is coming out of the unicorn horn. I tried to make it as clear as possible so the rainbow coming out is quite big and you should be able to see it clearly. To follow my theme, I made each animal do something that when painted out would represent each element of art. 3. How could you use each of the elements of art in future work? What kind of art work might you make? I could use the colour element of art in many of my future art work. In the future, looking at how we use colours would be really important, so it is good for me to just learn this now. (For me, the use of colour in paintings that uses acrylic paint or water paint would be the work that I would have to use this the most in).
Artwork - Form - 1. How did the art work you researched influence the art work you created yourself for each of the 7 elements of art? For this painting, my research has influenced me to make the bubbles represent the form, since right now, shape is a big part in form and I found out that circles would show form quite well. I also researched about how to shade to make the shape looked 3D, and I used that as a guideline to make my bubble look more 3D (so that it is more clear that the element is form). 2. Where is the element of art found in your work? This element of art is found through the bubbles in this painting. You can see that in the painting, the bubbles are quite shaded in detail, and I also made some highlights and shadows to the bubbles so that it is clear that it represents form. 3. How could you use each of the elements of art in future work? What kind of art work might you make? I could use this element of art for many of my future art work. I think if I am going in to more of the shading way in the future, the element is one HUGE part of shading and I would have to learn more about it (so I would have to use this element quite a lot in pencil drawings using shades and all those things).
Artwork - Texture - 1. How did the art work you researched influence the art work you created yourself for each of the 7 elements of art? My research has influenced me to use glue and paint to create texture. The artist I researched on used acrylic paint to create the texture, but I cannot use acrylic paint, so I had to use glue and paint over it instead of using acrylic paint. 2. Where is the element of art found in your work? The element of art is quite clear in this piece of work. You can see that the honey (which is all over the place) is textured. However, if I could improve this part I would, since I felt like the glue wasn t textured enough and I should do more layers of glue for this part. I also want to improve this drawing by using acrylic paint (just for the texture part), since when I use the UHU glue, I wasn t able to paint on it quite well, but it came out looking great anyways so I am fine with it and I am not going to redo it. 3. How could you use each of the elements of art in future work? What kind of art work might you make? I could use this element (texture) in my acrylic painting. Since when we dabbed on the acrylic paint without smoothing it out, then leave it to dry, the paint would create texture. I feel like it is really cool, since famous artists like Van Gough also does this.
