2 Jayson Scott Musson Born in 1977 in New York, USA. Lives and works in New York, USA. Jayson Musson emerged in the art scene in 2010 through the alter ego, street kid Hennessy Youngman, whose online series of short video monologues were a satirical critique of the art-world. The artist s works display a hybrid of humour and intellect, which has made him an established voice in the contemporary art scene with a large following. This series takes inspiration from the works of the American illustrator Ernie Bushmiller, who created the longrunning classic Nancy newspaper comic strip in Jayson Musson, influenced by Bushmiller, parodies of the conventions of modern art and architecture, going beyond this satirical commentary through his array of life-size reproductions of the paintings and sculptures that appeared in such comic strips. The results are the creation of works that appear wholly synthetic, with its casual forms, uninflected surfaces and ice-cream colouration. Jayson Musson s works have been exhibited worldwide, at for example the Institute of Contemporary Art (Philadelphia, USA, 2012) and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (Philadelphia, USA, 2011). He has held performances at various prestigious venues such as the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago, USA, 2012) and the Pratt Institute (New York, USA, 2012). Furthermore, his works are held in museum collection of the Museum of Modern Art (New York, USA). 3 Mary Weatherford Born in 1963 in Ojai, USA. Lives and works in Los Angeles, USA. Mary Weatherford is a prominent Los Angeles-based painter who has a wide-ranging oeuvre that integrates site-based research, poetic use of abstraction and highly material incorporation of found and fabricated elements. Her works are inspired by specific locations, in this case New York, portraying the artist s sense and psychology of a particular place. Arcadia evokes light, sky and mood through the presence of the electrified glass tube that cuts across the canvas. This neon tube further functions as a kind of linear force that conveys Mary Weatherford s interest in embodied light. The artist s employment of materials challenges the viewer, such as the use of neon and the prominent handling of the paint, calling attention to material and formal gestures and asserts the presence of the painting as an object independent of outside reference. Mary Weatherford has exhibited worldwide at prestigious venues such as the Museum of Modern Art (New York, USA, 2014), the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Los Angeles, USA, 2014) and the Hammer Museum (Los Angeles, USA, 2013). She is also the recipient of the Durfee Foundation ARC Grant (Los Angeles, USA, 2009) and the California community Foundation Palevsky Fellowship for Visual Artists (Los Angeles, USA, 2008). Her works are included in numerous highly esteemed public collections such as the Museum of Modern Art (New York, USA), the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Los Angeles, USA), the Hammer Museum (Los Angeles, USA), the Brooklyn Museum (New York, USA), the Mead Art Museum (Massachusetts, USA), the Museum of Contemporary Art (San Diego, USA) and the Orange County Museum of Art (Newport Beach, USA). 4 Angela de la Cruz Born in 1965 in La Coruña, Spain. Lives and works in London, UK. Turner nominated artist Angela de la Cruz pushes the physical boundaries of painting by challenging conventional definitions of this medium. She has a minimalist approach to her practice, working very systematically to produce series of works. Puncture II is an archetypal example of Angela de la Cruz s work due to its deep engagement with the discourse about the problem with painting. She targets its basic anatomy the stretcher which is usually left to its job of keeping the canvas smooth and pliant. In this work, the artist mangles the stretcher and warps the flat surface of the canvas to unleash it into three-dimensional space that surrounds the work. Angela de la Cruz was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2010 and has won various other prizes such as the Art Critics Award ARCO (Madrid, Spain, 2011) and the Paul Hamlyn Award (London, UK, 2010). She has shown at many prestigious venues such as the Royal Academy (London, UK, 2012), the Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art (Tel Aviv, Israel, 2012), the Hong Kong Heritage Museum (Hong Kong, 2011), the Camden Arts Centre (London, UK, 2010) and the Tate Britain (London, UK, 2010). Angela de la Cruz s works are represented in many public collections including the Tate Collection (London, UK), Bruxelles University Collection (Brussels, Belgium), the Morgan Stanley Bank (London, UK), Fundacion Helga de Alvear (Madrid, Spain), the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo (Valladolid, Spain), and many more. 5 Justin Adian Born in 1976 in Forth Worth, Texas. Lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. American artist Justin Adian has developed a unique style of canvas stretched over ester foam, often combining two or more shapes to form wall-mounted reliefs. The surface of the canvas is painted using industrial materials such as oil-based enamel and spray paint. A further dimension is added to these works by his application of almost neon colours on the reverse surface, which reflect onto the supporting wall to create a back lit effect. While his formal practice demonstrates the influence of Minimalism, Justin Adian indentifies specifically with the humour that is present in the regional art of Texas. There is notable playfulness in the shapes he fabricates as well his choice of brightly sprayed colours. Furthermore, humour is enhanced by his choice of tongue-incheek titles, such as this work titled Wanna?. Justin Adian graduated in 2003 from Rutgers University where he obtained his MFA (New Jersey, USA), and has exhibiting his works extensively in the United States. Notable exhibitions include Battle of the Brush at Bryant Park (New York, USA, 2011), Painting, the Semi Sublime at the UNT Artspace (Texas, USA, 2007), and Pushing Paint at the Center for Visual Arts (New Jersey, USA, 2004). 6 David Altmejd Born in 1974 in Montreal, Canada. Lives and works in New York, USA. David Altmejd creates highly detailed ornate sculptures that often blur the distinction between interior and exterior, surface and structure, representation and abstraction. Before David Altmejd became an artist, he wanted to become an evolutionary biologist and his sculptures, from compartmental tableaux to freestanding figures, are rooted in ideas of taxonomy and mutation. For the artist, the process of making is paramount. He often defies traditional material conventions and has developed a reputation for his use of unconventional materials. These materials include decapitated wolf heads, mirrors, plastic flowers and faux jewellery that allow him to create works that explore complex and symbolic narratives. David Altmejd currently has a solo show at the Musee d Arte Moderne de la Ville de Paris (Paris, France, 2014), and has exhibited in other prestigious venues such as the Middelheim Museum (Antwerp, Belgium, 2013), the MOCA (Cleveland, USA, 2012), the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York, USA, 2010), the Vanaerents Art Collection (Brussels, Belgium, 2010), the Museum of Contemporary Art (Los Angeles, USA, 2009), the Dallas Museum of Art (Dallas, USA, 2009), and the P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center (New York, USA, 2009). The artist was awarded the prestigious Sobey Art Award in 2009 and his works are held in many public collections such as the Museum of Modern Art (New York, USA), the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago, USA), the British Council (Manchester, UK), and the Whitney Museum (New York, USA). 7 Gregor Hildebrandt Born in 1974 in Bad Homburg, Germany. Lives and works in Berlin, Germany. Gregor Hildebrandt is a leading member of the German contemporary art scene, producing installations, sculptures and works on canvas. His materials are often record carriers for sound and film, for example cassette tapes. For Gregor Hildebrandt, the cassette tape as artistic medium fulfils an important function as it enables the artist to add a further invisible dimension to his works. The artist s works are complex montages, in which pictorial associations from different spheres combine and interpenetrate. Gregor Hildebrandt s formal vocabulary draws on minimalist and found-object traditions, playfully linking aspects of conceptual and minimal art with his personal life and daily experience. His works articulate eternal themes of immortality, sadness, yearning, and transience in a contemporary visual language that remains characteristic to the city he lives and works in - Berlin. Gregor Hildebrandt has exhibited in various prestigious venues such as the Boghossian Foundation (Brussels, Belgium, 2014), the Bass Museum of Art (Miami, USA, 2014), the Palais de Tokyo (Paris, France, 2012), the Martin Z. Margulies Collection (Miami, USA, 2012) and the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris, France, 2012). His works are represented in the public collections of the Museum für Moderne Kunst (Berlin, Germany), the Burger Collection (Hong Kong, China), the Rubell Family Collection (Miami, USA), the Sammlung Südhausbau (Munich, Germany ), and many more. 8 Christian Rosa Born in 1982 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Lives and works in Vienna, Austria and Los Angeles, USA. At 32, Christian Rosa is part of a young generation of artists whose work continues to stretch the boundaries of abstract art. The artist actively engages in a reductivist approach to painting by limiting his gestures to individual physical actions that intertwine with each other across the canvas. His works are an exercise in discovery, in which he learns by deconstructing the surface of painting, dealing with mistakes that are displaced, re-appropriated and reconfigured in order to explore the archaeology of painting and the notion of failure as a guiding conceptual model. At first glace, one can see references to the classical paintings of Cy Twombly and Joan Miro, however Christian Rosa s aesthetic is entirely his own. His works are pared down and minimal but often contain identifiable figurative elements. Isolated elements and shapes of pure primary colour float against a raw canvas background allowing new modes of communication to arise between disparate marks on the canvas. Lines, dots, squares, and scribbles evolve together, becoming the preliminary forms for further engagement suggesting the very beginning of some kind of figuration. Christian Rosa studied under Daniel Richter at the Akademie der bildenden Künste (Vienna, Austria). He has already exhibited at some very prestigious institutions such as the Saatchi (London, UK, 2014), the Venice Biennale (Venice, Italy, 2013), and the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (Düsseldorf, Germany, 2009). In 2011 he received the Walter Koschatzky Art Prize (Vienna, Austria). Title: Untitled Medium: Oil stick, oil paint, pencil, charcoal on canvas Size: 240 x 200 cm contact@newartworld.co.uk 8

9 Jim Hodges Born in 1957 in Spokane, USA. Lives and works in New York, USA. American artist Jim Hodges is driven by a desire to explore how using different materials can elucidate his own creative urges. Since the late 80s, the artist s poetic reconsiderations of the material world have inspired a wide-ranging body of work. For example, he has constructed elaborate collages and installations out of disparate materials including napkins, silk, plastic, metal wires, and sheet metal disguised with camouflage. In this work, Jim Hodges creates a monumental tapestry of denim to create what the artist describes as a very American landscape a denim sky. Inspired by a drive through Upstate New York, the artist collected stacks of thrift-shop jeans, spanning the spectrum of blue from almost white to deep indigo. He cut and layered the jeans into freeform shapes that echo the shifting hues and patterns of clouds, which he sewed together to memorialize the majesty of such a sky. Jim Hodges has received numerous awards and grants. His works have shown at many prestigious venues such as the Hammer Museum (Los Angeles, USA, 2014), the ICA (Boston, USA, 2014), the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris, France, 2009), the Camden Arts Centre (London, UK, 2010), the National Gallery of Art (Washington, USA, 2012) and the Museum of Modern Art (New York, USA, 2011). His works form part of various highly reputable public collections such as the Chase Manhattan Bank (New York, USA), the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York, USA), the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Los Angeles, USA), the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (San Francisco, USA) and the Whitney Museum (New York, USA). 10 Gedi Sibony Born in 1973 in New York, US. Lives and works in New York, US. Gedi Sibony is a young New York-based artist who is world renowned for his utilisation of a wide variety of materials and his works that take over spaces and redefine themselves and the spaces they are inhabit. The artist s wall pieces are never strictly two-dimensional, frequently leaning against walls or hanging precariously. Gedi Sibony s constructions draw from the traditions of minimalism in their pared down aesthetics and conception of sculpture as self-contained conceptual objects. Objects are adopted in an impoverished style and are often made from found materials such as cardboard, plastic sheeting, and wood. Through these media, which are associated with both construction and debris, his work elevates the humble qualities of the everyday to create instances of poetic beauty. In The Beginning is Near, Sibony presents a strip of carpet mounted on the wall as a ready-made painting. Gedi Sibony has exhibited in various prestigious venues, including the Kunstlerhaus Graz (Graz, Austria, 2013), the Museum of Modern Art (San Francisco, USA, 2012) and the Hammer Museum (Los Angeles, USA, 2011). He has received various awards including the Tiffany Foundation Award (New York, USA, 2009) and the Metcalf Award from the Academy of Arts and Letters (New York, USA, 2006). His works are part of numerous distinguished public collections including the Carnegie Museum of Art (Pittsburgh, USA), the Dallas Museum of Art (Dallas, USA), the Museum of Contemporary Art (Los Angeles, USA), the Museum of Modern Art (New York, USA), the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts (St. Louis, USA), the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (San Francisco, USA) and the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York, USA).
