1 6/22/17 MEMO TO: CALL TO TEEN ARTISTS (AGES 15-18) RE: NEW Creative Crsswalk prject in ViBe District ViBe Creative District will hst a NEW creative crsswalk painting event n the Secnd Saturday f July (7/8/17) in partnership with Old Beach Farmers Market The ViBe Creative District is planning t add 1 new crsswalk t the Creative Crsswalk prgram this July. This crsswalk will be crss-prmted and painted n a Secnd Saturday in partnership with Old Beach Farmer s Market which is celebrating its 10 th Anniversary. The chsen lcatin (19 th Street and Mediterranean Ave) was chsen as it will the 4 th crner f ne whle blck t have creative crsswalks cmpleted in the ViBe (ther 3 creative crsswalks at 19 th St & Cypress Ave, 18 th St & Cypress Ave and 18 th & Mediterranean. The clrful artwrks create a sense f place and arrival within the arts district. 19 th Street and Mediterranean Avenue Crsswalk n Mediterranean ONLY. 19 th Street nt included.

3 TEEN ARTIST APPLCIATION: (ages nly) The VIBE Creative District in partnership with the City f Virginia Beach Office f Cultural Affairs and the Old Beach Farmers Market welcme all lcal TEEN artists the pprtunity t submit a design fr a Creative Crsswalk! The new artwrk will be painted within the crsswalk striping at 19 th Street & Mediterranean Avenue in the ViBe Creative District. NAME: PHONE: ADDRESS: AGE: SCHOOL: YES r NO I understand that this painting event is pen t the public and that as the artist, I will help lead the public t participate in helping paint my design. Please attach t a 1-paragraph artists statement regarding yur experience as an artist and yur submitted crsswalk design. Please list the materials yu will need t create this crsswalk (ONLY traffic paint is used n rad) My parent r guardian will be present with me during the Secnd Saturday event frm 7:30am 1pm. Please attach design n the DESIGN TEMPLATE prvided. Yu may draw/clr by hand OR digitally insert yur design. Details regarding Creative Crsswalks: All crsswalk designs must accmmdate the tw thick lines at the tp and bttm f the crsswalk, which run perpendicular t the radway traffic. Interir stripes remain white and be utilized as part f the design. See belw the prvided PDF cntaining Crsswalk Dimensins. Artist must create their design within thse dimensins by drawing n r digitally inserting their artwrk int the DESIGN TEMPLATE image prvided. All artists are challenged t create a simple, aesthetically pleasing design that can be accmplished with the help f lcal citizens and residents. The chsen artists will be asked t sketch ut the design nt the pavement in advance f the July Secnd Saturday event, taking place frm 9am-nn n Saturday, July 8 th. Fr the safety f the artists and all participants, Mediterranean Street will be clsed t traffic near the crsswalk n Saturday during event t allw fr set up, artwrk painting and clean up. The public must be permitted t participate in yur design. Traffic safety paint will be prvided fr artists. All designs must match the clrs prvided: White, Blue, Yellw, Red and Black. Artists may mix these clrs if they desire at the event. Buckets and cups will be prvided.

4 Selected artwrk submissins will becme prperty f the VIBE Creative District. The image will be used fr prmtinal use by the VIBE Creative District, The Old Beach Farmers Market and City f Virginia Beach, bth with and withut credit as permitted. Artist name, mural title, image f crsswalk and any phtgraphs r dcumentatin f the prcess may be included in print r n websites and scial media belnging t: VIBE Creative District, Old Beach Farmers Market City f Virginia Beach and each parties members. Image credit will be encuraged but cannt be prmised. Teen Artists Only: Artists must be Hamptn Rads residents and be years ld. The artist with the chsen design fr Creative Crsswalks will receive a $200 stipend fr their design and time t executive bth the physical sketching f the crsswalk in advance f the public event n Saturday, July 8 th frm 7am-9am and their time cllabrating with the public during the event itself t paint the crsswalk. A W9 will be prvided and must be cmpleted in rder t receive payment. Artists will have all materials prvided fr them including: tape, paint, brushes, etc. within reasnable expenses by VIBE. Please indicate the types f materials yu anticipate needing n the applicatin frm. Cntent fr Creative Crsswalks must be apprpriate fr the general public and cannt include: prfanity, nudity, gang symbls, plitical cntent, advertisements f any kind, nr anything that may be deemed inapprpriate r ffensive. Creative Crsswalk designs must remain within the dimensins prvided. Rules: The applicatin will be pen t Hamptn Rads TEEN artists frm June week nly. Applicatins clse at 10am n June 30 th, The winning artist(s) will be annunced t the public n later than Mnday, July 3 via websites and scial media hsted by: VIBE Creative District, Old Beach Farmers Market and The City f Virginia Beach Office f Cultural Affairs. Artists must be available early n Saturday, July 8 th frm 7am-9am t sketch, tape r prep the crsswalk fr cmmunity participatin starting at 9am. ABSOLUTELY NO WORK MAY BEGIN BEFORE THIS TIME. Selected artists will be required t attend the VIBE Creative District Secnd Saturday event n Saturday, July 8 th frm 9am-nn t participate hands-n with the public t cmplete the crsswalk. By submitting a cmpetitin entry, each Artist, t the fullest extent permitted by law, releases the Spnsrs, Steering Cmmittee, and selectin cmmittee frm any and all claims, causes f actin, injuries, damages, liabilities, lsses, csts, and expenses resulting in any way frm participatin in the Cmpetitin. Cmpetitin Entrants will retain the intellectual cpyright t designs. Hwever, by submitting as design fr selectin cnsideratin, Artists grant the Selectin Cmmittee the right t reprduce, publish, exhibit, and reference the designs submitted fr the cmpetitin withut additinal cmpensatin by the Selectin Cmmittee t the Entrant.
