There s a particular focus on all kinds of textiles, some of which are inspired by the Mulhouse premier collection of textiles. We also have an entirely new kitchen that breathes of traditional craftsmanship, along with a matching rustic wall shelf and rail. For cooking and eating, there s a new series of everyday long-lasting pieces, as well as a romantic-styled series of kitchen textiles and more. VARDAGEN vegetable knife RM

3 IKEA PRESS KIT /FEBRUARY 2016 / 3 PH VARDAGEN SERIES We re now introducing a new range of everyday cookware and tableware in a traditional style designed for preparing the food to setting the table. The first launch of VARDAGEN series contains new knives, tablecloths, napkins, kitchen textiles, glass jars and carafes. Made with honest materials such as clear glass, metal and linen, the aim was to create long-lasting pieces that never go out of style. The designers for VARDAGEN knives Pia Amsell and Barbro Berlin were inspired by traditional kitchen knives. We designed VARDAGEN knives inspired by sturdy old-fashioned knives with a robust and timeless feel. Because cooking is a craft, we gave the knives honest, simple lines that give a good grip and easy handling. This was one of the thoughts when designer Tina Christensen sat down to work on SMÅBIT knife and peeler. I came up with the design for SMÅBIT knife and peeler because I want children to get curious about food and cooking. I believe that being in the kitchen and having their own utensils can spark their interest. Designed for eight-year-olds and up, the knife and peeler have good solid grips, so that kids learn to cut and peel in the right way always with adult supervision. 25 IKEA PRESS KIT /FEBRUARY 2016 / 25 PH NEW TEXTILES This February sees the launch of a whole new selection of textiles, designed for creating a fresh and homely style. Among these textiles are some designs created in collaboration with the Museum of Printed Textiles in Mulhouse, France. The patterns archived here is the work by some local textile designers that in 1833 began collecting the designs they produced, also adding designs from other countries and earlier times. The collection grew in importance to become what is today the premier collection of printed textiles in the world. Inspiring the IKEA product developer Emma Jones, patterns from the collection have been sampled and adjusted in colour to match the IKEA range and key furniture series. With this collection we wanted to mix and match patterns and textures, old and new, to create many beautiful combinations - showing our home furnishing knowledge and understanding of life at home. The result is a range of attractive new textiles that personalise the home from bed linen and metre fabrics to a curtain and cushion cover. With HÅRTE work lamp the light can move along with the laptop, as it can also be USB powered. This brilliant idea came about through a random situation at IKEA, says product developer Elin Wrengler. We were past the part of the process and had already picked another power plug when a co-worker, by chance, drops by and casually says: why aren t you using USB? It s cheaper and more practical. So we went back to the drawing board and changed it. It was the detail that made all the difference. The fact that HÅRTE work lamp uses an LED light source, using up to 85% less energy and lasting 20 times longer than light bulbs, makes it a sustainable choice.
