4 Assembly Instructions Assembly of the CB3200/CB105 requires the following tools: 1. Crescent wrench or 14mm Socket wrench 2. Pliers 3. Phillips Screwdriver 4. Straight Screwdriver Model: CB3200/CB Attach the foot pedals (O) to lower cross support bar (N). 2. Attach crossbar (L) to legs (H). 3. Attach crossbar (N) to legs (H). 4. Attach DC Servo Motor (J) to reducer (K) and then to bottom of table top (E) where indicated. 5. Attach On/Off switch (G) to bottom of table top where indicated. 6. Attach legs (H) to bottom of table top (E) where indicated. 7. Attach CB3200/CB105 to table top (E) where indicated. 8. Attach bobbin winder (D) to table top (E) where indicated. 9. Attach thread stand (C) to back of table. 3

5 10. Attach chains (M) from foot pedals (O) to DC Servo Motor (J) (Picture 2) and back of CB3200/CB105 (A) as shown (Picture 3). 11. Attach belts onto CB3200/CB105 and DC Servo Motor adjust tension where belt can be depressed ¼. 12. Attach LED light (I)(optional accessory) to back edge of table top (E) in position of your choosing. 13. Plug LED (I) to back of On/Off switch (G). 14. Connect plug of On/Off switch (G) to back of DC Servo Motor (J). 15. Connect plug of On/Off switch (G) into 110v outlet. CAUTION READ BEFORE OPERATING THIS MACHINE 1. Lubricate the machine before operating 2. Use only with correct voltage. 3. Confirm the machine and motor are turning over in a counter-clockwise rotation. 4. Your CB3200/CB105 machine is normally set up with a speed reducer/ transmission to control your stitching speeds and to add additional torque to drive the needle into heavy leathers and fabrics at low operating speeds. 5. After operating the machine for more than 30 days, if desired, the top stitching speed may be increased to a maximum speed of 800 rpm. 6 Keep your hands and all clothing away from your CB3200/CB105 when pushing the button to turn the electric motor on. 7. Switch on the Servo Motor and check for the LED light (optional accessory) to illuminate. 8. Always switch off the motor when finished sewing. Never leave the motor running while away from the machine. 9. Always switch off the motor before changing needles or adjusting your CB3200/CB Do not let children operate the CB3200/ CB105. 4

6 Maintenance and User Guide 1. Cleaning Normal operation causes dust, lint, and dirt to build up around the moving parts of your CB3200/CB105. Periodically clean around all the moving parts of the machine. Pay special attention to keeping the shuttle, shuttle race, and throat plate area clean. Use compressed air or a cloth or small brush to clean off any debris. 2. Lubrication Your new Cowboy CB3200/CB105 was lubricated at our factory; however re- lubricate before using it. Use gun oil or high quality machine oil - not WD 40. The CB3200/CB105 requires lubrication in all holes painted red (see arrows in Fig 2-1 and Fig 2-2) on a regular basis. After oiling the red painted holes, remove cover plates 2, 6, 7, 8 and 9 as shown on page 16 and do a light aerosol spray of cine gun oil. Leave it over night so the next work day any excess oil along with dirt and lint can be wiped off before use. Cowboy recommends that the machine be oiled about every 7 to 12 hours of actual usage with the best time to oil the machine at the end of the day. Fig 2-1 Fig How to Install the Needle SWITCH OFF THE MOTOR BEFORE REMOVING OR INSERTING THE Fig 3-1 NEEDLE (Figure 3-1) For leather use size: 794 D, 794 S, 794 LR For Canvas, Nylon and fabrics: use size 794 or 7X3 1.Turn the hand wheel counter- clockwise and raise the needle bar to its highest position. 2.Loosen the needle set screw (1) remove the old needle and insert a new needle (2) into the needle bar. Push it up into the hole as far as it will go. 3.Remember to locate the needle scarf (A) towards the hand wheel and the long groove of the needle to the left side. 4.Securely tighten the needle set screw (1). 5

7 4. How to Take Out the Bobbin 1. Turn the hand wheel on the machine counter- clockwise until the needle reaches its lowest position. 2. Place your open left hand under the shuttle area to catch the bobbin. 3. Depress the retaining latch (1) (Fig 4-1) to open the bobbin case. 4. The old bobbin will drop out of the case into your open hand (Fig 4-2). 5. How to use the Bobbin Winder The bobbin winder is to be mounted as shown using screws shown at (G) (Fig. 5-1). The winder should be mounted in the open position 1/4 in front of the drive belt. The slots in the bobbin winder allow forward and back adjustment for cinding the correct pressure to engage the belt for running the winder. The latch (A) shows spindle (B) in Fig 5-1 engaged to the motor belt. Threading the Bobbin Winder 1. Mount the bobbin to the spindle bar on the bobbin winder making sure to engage the inside hole of the bobbin to the little pin on the spindle face (B). 2. Run the thread through the outside of hole (D) of the bobbin winder. 3. Run thread under and between the tension discs of the thread guide (E) one turn in a counter clockwise direction and over the bridge (F). 4. Run the thread through the small hole from the Fig 5-1 inside to the outside of the bobbin leaving a 3-4 tail. Cut this off after the bobbin is wound. 5. Press lever (A) of the bobbin winder to engage the drive belt. 6. Remove the thread from the needle and depress the motor pedal to start winding the thread until the bobbin is fully loaded. 6

8 6. How to Install the Bobbin Fig 6-1 Fig Hold the bobbin between the thumb and index cinger. Pull approximately 3-4 of thread off the bobbin. The bobbin should spin counter- clockwise from this position. If it does not then simply turn the bobbin around in your cingers and it will be oriented properly. 2. Pass the thread through the slot (A)of the bobbin case (see Fig 6-2) and pull the thread until the thread passes under the bobbin thread tension adjusting spring and rests in the groove on the tension adjusting spring (Fig 6-1). 3. Leave at least 3 to 5 of thread remaining and hanging out beyond the bobbin case. 4. Make sure the sewing machine needle is threaded. Holding the top thread of the needle taut and off to the right hand side at about the 2 o'clock position, turn the top of the hand wheel toward the operator one revolution allowing the needle to go all the way down and all the way back up. This will pull the bobbin thread up through the needle plate. The machine is now ready to sew. 7. How to Thread the CB3200/CB Place a spool of thread on the Thread Stand. G Fig Pull the thread through the eyelet on the Thread Stand arm. 3. Pass the thread through one of the holes of the chrome post on the top arm of the CB3200/CB105 (A)(Fig 7-1). 4. Pass the thread through the eyelet (B), and pull the thread over the top of the tension disks (C) and down between them. 5. Continue the thread down behind the primary tension disks (D) and loop counter- clockwise with 1 1/2 turns bringing it from the inside over the bar (E) then through the eyelet (F) up to and through the eye on the take- up lever (G). 6. From (G) go through the eyelet at (H). 7. Make sure the needle is in its uppermost position. 8. Pass the thread through the small hole in the black collar where the needle attaches to the needle bar. 9. Thread the eye of the needle from left to right. 10. Thread the hole in the inside presser foot (I) which the needle passes through as the machine sews. 11. Pull 6 inches of thread through the eye of the needle. 12. Hold the needle thread off to the right at the 2 o clock position. Rotate the top of the hand wheel toward the operator one full revolution to pick up the bobbin thread and pull 6 inches of thread out of the bobbin. The CB3200/CB105 is now ready to sew. 7

9 8. Adjusting the Stitch Length and Reverse Stitching Fig 8-1 To adjust the stitch length: 1. Turn the adjuster nut (A) (Fig 8-2) counter clockwise and push the handle in a downward direction for a longer stitch length. 2. Turn the adjuster nut (A) (Fig 8-2) clockwise and lift the handle upward for a shorter stitch length. 3. A zero stitch length is in the middle of the slot. The longest stitch length is at the bottom of the slot. 4. Pull the handle upwards to stitch in reverse. When the forward stitch length and the adjuster nut are set correctly, the machine will sew in an equal distant reverse stitch length. 5. To correctly back stitch on the same needle penetration holes; stop the machine with the needle down, then raise the needle approximately ¼ upwards, pull the reverse handle all the way up, then make several stitches in reverse. 6. To sew forward, push the handle all the way down and sew. 7. Examples of stitch lengths (Fig 8-1). Note these examples are thru two to four thicknesses of 7-8 oz. leathers. 9. How to Adjust Thread Tension Adjusting the needle thread tension: a. Turn the nut on the end of the aux. tension shaft (1) (Fig. 9-1)in a clockwise direction to increase thread tension in small amounts (A) (Fig. 9-1). b. Rotate the nut counter- clockwise to decrease the thread tension (B) (Fig. 9-1). c. For a greater amount of thread tension, rotate the nut on the main tension device (Fig 9-3) in a clockwise direction. To loosen, rotate the nut counter- clockwise. If you have thread loops on the bottom side of your work, tighten the main tension (Fig. 9-3). If the thread knot is on the top side of the work, loosen the main tension. 10 10. How to Adjust Thread Take Up Spring Fig 10-1 Fig 9-3 Adjusting The Bobbin Thread Tension: A. Loosen the locking set screw (1) (Fig. 9-2) with a small screw driver. B. Turn the spring tension adjusting screw (2) clockwise for a greater thread tension. C. Turn the adjusting screw (2) counter- clockwise to decrease the thread tension. Normally one does not need to re- adjust the bobbin case thread tension unless one changes the sewing thread to a very small diameter or size The standard stroke of the thread take up spring commonly called the check spring (1) (Fig. 10-1) is about 3/8. Normally the stroke or spring tension does not require re- adjustment. 11. Adjusting The Presser Foot Pressure 1. The outside presser foot pressure is adjusted by loosening nut (3) (Fig. 11-1). 2. To increase the holding capacity of the outside presser foot, turn the regulator (1) clockwise. 3. To reduce the holding pressure, turn the regulator counter- clockwise. Be careful not to fully unscrew the regulator. It is spring loaded and will Pop out. If it pops out just reinsert it downward with enough pressure to depress the spring and re- screw it clockwise to reseat. 4. Tighten the locking nut (3) (Fig 11-1). The standard height of the presser foot regulator (1) from the casting to the top of the regulator screw is about 5/8 to 3/4 9 Fig 11-1

11 12. Adjusting The Height Of The Feed Dog For leather stitching: The feed dog used in COWBOY Models CB3200/CB105 is smooth, without teeth so as not to damage your leather. For fabric stitching: All models should use a course tooth feed dog. To adjust the height of the feed dog, either of the two methods are possible: 1. Open the bobbin case to reveal the feed dog (4) (Fig. 12-3) attaching screw. 2. Loosen the screw (4) and move the feed dog up (6) (Fig 12-3) or down as required. 3. Re- Tighten the feed dog attaching screw. OR a second method is to do the following: Fig Loosen and remove the two screws and small springs (1) (Fig. 12-2) that hold the oscillating shuttle bobbin case in place. 2. Remove the shuttle race (2) (Fig. 12-2) and bobbin case from the casting and reveal the feed dog attaching screw (4) (Fig. 12-3). 3. Remove the feed dog attaching screw and feed dog to install any of the feed dogs and needle plates shown in optional accessories. Fig 12-1 Fig 12-3 Fig

12 13.Walking Foot Height Adjustment To adjust the height of the walking foot: 1. Loosen the nut (6) and move the lever (7) Up to Decrease the walking foot height (B). 2. Move the lever (7) Down in slotted bracket (8) to Increase the walking foot height (A). Fig Tighten the nut (6) after completing the adjustment. 14. Adjusting The Needle-To-Shuttle Relationship Normal timing adjustment of the shuttle hook. 1. Turn the hand wheel counter- clockwise until the oscillating shuttle hook is positioned to the fullest most left position of its travel with the needle at the Bottom- Dead- Center of its travel (fully down.) 2. The point of the oscillating shuttle hook (B) should then be equal to 1 mm with the end of the steel shuttle hook race (C). Fig 14-1 To Adjust The Position Of The Oscillating Shuttle Hook. 1. Open the front inspection plate cover; located under the reverse lever on the front of the Cowboy machines casting. 2. Insert a metric Allen wrench into the adjusting screws (2)(Fig. 14-2) and loosen the 2 screws slightly. 3. Fully loosen the 2 Allen screws and rotate the shuttle hook either clockwise or counter- clockwise to align the shuttle hook correctly as shown in Fig Remember to cirmly tighten the allen screws (2) (Fig. 14-2) when you have accomplished the adjustment. 11

13 DC Servo Motor Instructions CHANGING SPEED 1. Hold the down arrow on the front of the motor body for a few seconds, S.0 will display in the LED readout. 2. Tap the up arrow until the LED indicator reads S Tap the down arrow again briecly. 4. Tap the up arrow to increase speed or the down arrow to decrease speed. The speed of the motor and rpm X 100, is what shows on the screen. For example, when the LED indicator shows 10, the motor speed will be When the LED indicator shows 36, the motor speed will be The indicator will return to the home position after a few seconds with the new adjustments. 6. The more the foot pedal is depressed the greater the speed. Release the foot pedal to immediately stop the motor. MOTOR ROTATION DIRECTION The motor is preset at the factory in the correct rotation. With normal operations the motor direction will never have to be changed. Do not attempt to change motor direction without contacting your dealer. To reset it: 1. With the motor stopped, press the down arrow for several seconds until the the LED shows S Press the up arrows 2x; When the LED is S.2 press the down arrow till the LED shows r.e or r.p. 3. If you want to change the direction press the up arrow or the down arrow to switch between the E and P (E means reversed direction, P means normal direction). Five seconds later the set pattern will automatically be saved. 12

14 Trouble Shooting Problem Cause Fix 1. The Thread breaks or tends to fray and then break. 1. A burr, cut, roughness, or other imperfection was created on the needle plate, shuttle, shuttle race or presser foot by a broken or damaged needle. 2. Need thread tension excessively tight. 3. Poor quality or incorrect thread size. 4. Machine is out of synchronization. 5. Excessive needle heat build-up. 1. Clean off and remove the flaw with a fine India stone or other abrasive. 2. Loosen the upper thread tension. 3. Always use a good quality pre-lubricated left twist sewing thread. 4. Check and if necessary re-time the machine. 5. Add an additional silicone thread lubrication system to your machine. 6. Replace your needle. 2. Skipped Stitches 1. The needle is too far away from the shuttle hook point. 2. The shuttle hook timing is set too fast or too slow in relationship to the needle. 3. The leather or fabric jumps up with the needle (flagging). 4. Bent needle, dull point, or improper needle diameter size for the leather sewn. 5. The check spring tension is too hard or too soft. 6. The check spring travel is too long or too short for the fabric sewn. 7. The needle has overheated, lost temper or is dull or worn out. 8. Excessive thread fraying or wear. 1. See Section 14, Adjusting the Needle-to-Shuttle relationship. 2. Tighten the presser bar adjuster screw. 3. Replace with a new and correctly sized needle. 4. Decrease the check tension. 5. Adjust the check spring travel for the weight of the fabric or leather being sewn. 6. Replace the needle. 3. Improper Thread Tension, irregular stitch, excessive bobbin thread tension 1. Worn out thread guides. 2. The bobbin jams. 3. Weak bobbin thread tension. 4. Bobbin thread is wound to tightly. 5. Bobbin thread showing on top of fabric or leather. 6. Loops showing on the bottom of the leather or fabric. 1. Repair the guide or replace with a new thread guide. 2. The bobbin may be bent or otherwise damaged. Replace the bobbin. 3. Tighten the bobbin thread tension, Section Loosen the tension on the bobbin winder. 5. Loosen the needle thread tension, Section Tighten the needle thread tension, Section Excessive Thread Abrasion 1. Worn out or incorrect needle size. 1. Replace the needle. 5. Stitches are out of line or do not track straight. 6. The bobbin thread tension will not adjust. 1. Incorrect point for the leather being sewn. 2. Dull or blunt needle point. 1. Lint or debris trapped under the bobbin case spring tension. 1. Replace your needle with one with the correct cutting point for the type of leather being sewn. 1. Remove the bobbin case spring and clean out the debris 7. The v-belt from the speed controller is slipping or the hand wheel does not turn when the motor is fully engaged. 1. The v-belt has stretched. 2. The v-belt is worn out. 3. The machine is jammed. 1. Lower the speed controller. Make the belt tension tighter. 2. Replace the v- belt. 3. Clean out the foreign blockage. Check for a small piece of thread trapped in the shuttle raceway. 13

Bobbin PLEASE CONTACT YOUR DEALER FOR CURRENT PRICES. COWBOY strongly recommends replacing your needle every 8 to 10 hours of actual s=tching Leather point needles are like knives. They get dull and require replacement. CuDng point needles create significant heat going through heavy leather. Needles lose their temper (hardening) with heat which leads to bent or broken needles. A broken needle may cause damage to your machine and should be immediately replaced. 14
