Supplies: Ribbon o Base Layer 1: 1.5 wide print ribbon 1yd / Cut (3) 11 long o 2 nd layer: 7/8 wide solid grosgrain ribbon 1 ¼ yd / Cut (4) 9.5 long o 3 rd layer: 5/8 wide cream ruffled edged ribbon 1 1/3 yd / Cut ( 5) 8.5 long Center embellishment for 4 th layer: button or scrapbook embellishment sticker like shown here ( this one is 1 wide) Hot glue gun & hot glue ( I prefer low temp. so I don t burn myself) Scissors Needle & Thread ( I prefer sturdy thread like upholstery thread) but you can make regular thread work, just double it Ruler to measure ribbon with Lighter to seal ribbon edges to keep them from fraying ( I prefer the long handled variety) Optional: (Backing) 3 square of STIFF felt / white color will work fine ( you can find this right next to the regular craft squares at fabric and craft stores) This makes the bow more stable but is optional. HairClip of choice/ if using an alligator type clip you will need 1 square of craft felt to cut a heart out of Directions: Step 1: Create Ribbon Base Layer 1: Use your 1.5 wide print ribbon 1yd / Cut (3) 11 long MakeHairBowsNow.com/Home of the Premier HairBow/ Accessory Making Master Course Over 88bows Page 3
Heat Seal both ends of ribbon with lighter/ Run the ends quickly through the flame to seal to keep ends from fraying Stack ribbons on top of each other with print right side up Mark the half way and middle of the ribbon by measuring with a ruler and placing a pin to hold your spot. MakeHairBowsNow.com/Home of the Premier HairBow/ Accessory Making Master Course Over 88bows Page 4
With needle and thread ( I prefer sturdy thread like upholstery thread) but you can make regular thread work, just double it) / tie a sturdy knot in one end Go through all layers with your needle and thread/ flip the stack of ribbons over and pull your thread tight. MakeHairBowsNow.com/Home of the Premier HairBow/ Accessory Making Master Course Over 88bows Page 5
Spread your ribbon out in an even fan ( Caution: Do NOT cross them over, keep them in the same order they were placed on your needle, like shown. START at one of the bottom layers/ with needle and thread go through the end of the ribbon approx. ¼ from the end and slide it on your needle, creating a loop back to middle Continue to add layers to your needle going in order around the circle starting at the lowest level. Pull the thread tight as you go, so there is no slack in the thread line MakeHairBowsNow.com/Home of the Premier HairBow/ Accessory Making Master Course Over 88bows Page 6
Even your loops out so they look good MakeHairBowsNow.com/Home of the Premier HairBow/ Accessory Making Master Course Over 88bows Page 7
Hold the center tightly so the loops will not move out of place and secure them to each other so they won t move by going back through the center with a stich approx. ¼ to ½ wide. Go back and forth 3-4 times, create a box like area of stitching. Secure with a knot and clip thread MakeHairBowsNow.com/Home of the Premier HairBow/ Accessory Making Master Course Over 88bows Page 8
( HINT): if you are using stiff thick ribbon with multiple layers this step can be difficult, you may opt to hot glue in between layers to hold loops in place if you prefer)with the larger 1.5 ribbon I will add some hot glue between layers after stitching to hold it down to make this layer more sturdy (like shown here between layers) Step2: Create ribbon layer 2 Use your 2 nd layer ribbon 7/8 wide solid grosgrain ribbon / Cut (4) 9.5 long Heat seal ends and proceed like explained in step 1 to create second layer MakeHairBowsNow.com/Home of the Premier HairBow/ Accessory Making Master Course Over 88bows Page 9
Step 3: Create ribbon layer 3/ top layer Use your 3 nd layer ribbon : 5/8 wide cream ruffled edged ribbon / Cut ( 5) 8.5 long Heat seal ends and proceed like explained in step 1 and like you did in step 2 Step 4: Attach layers / Build Bow Hot glue your layers together/ create a ring of hot glue on the underside of your layers and press to the layer under it ( I prefer the underside of the layers to be the flat side) MakeHairBowsNow.com/Home of the Premier HairBow/ Accessory Making Master Course Over 88bows Page 10
Step 5: Center Embellishment Attach an embellishment of your choice to the center: Consider: button, scrapbook item, beads, acrylic stickers, covered button, jewelry items / use hot glue to attach. If using small items like beads or heavy jewelry I prefer to use an adhesive like E-6000 vs. hotglue, it will give you a cleaner look and have staying power for metal objects. You must let it dry though before attaching your hairclip. See version of bow below for examples of embellishments. Button Hints: If using a regular button with holes in the middle/ consider using yarn or twine or thin ribbon to thread through the holes and tie/ this adds to the look/ see version 2 for an example. If using a covered button follow the directions that come with it. See version 6 & 7. These are available at fabric stores. Purchase the flat back variety vs. with a loop for sewing, so it will lay flat on your bow. These are available online as well. More information on inexpensive sources is available in the Bonus Book Supply buying guide available free with purchase of The Premier HairBow/ Accessory Making Master Course. Step 6: Add backing to the bow ( optional) I prefer a backing on the larger bows that use 1.5 wide ribbon, Use a 3 square of STIFF felt / a white color will work fine (you can find type of stiff felt right next to the regular craft felt squares at fabric and craft stores) This makes the bow more stable but is optional. Cut a 2 circle out of the stiff felt and hot glue to the underside of the bow in the center MakeHairBowsNow.com/Home of the Premier HairBow/ Accessory Making Master Course Over 88bows Page 11
Step7: Attach Hairclip The bow can now be attached to a hairclip of choice. I have demonstrated an alligator clip Cut a small felt heart out of craft felt / approx. 1 in size/ fold the square in half and cut your heart like you did in kindergarten when you were making valentines! Hot glue the heart with very small dots of hotglue on the 3 points leaving room in the center for an alligator clip to slip through the middle. Press the heart to the back center of the bow. MakeHairBowsNow.com/Home of the Premier HairBow/ Accessory Making Master Course Over 88bows Page 12

Version 1: Base layer 1:Red flower ribbon 7/8 wide / Cut (4) 11 long 2 nd layer: Red satin ribbon ¼ wide/ Cut (4) 9 long Center knot ribbon/ Cut 6 long ribbon and tie knot in center/ apply like shown in video For the this bow look/ slide your loops together and secure look with thread wrapped around center and a few stitches while in this position. Do the same for additional layers/ tie a knot in a 6 piece of ribbon and hot glue to center, wrap and cut to fit back, still allowing an alligator clip to fit between.
