3 Definitions of the 4 Designated Raw Materials Resin Resins used for injection and extrusion moldings. Targets are the resin pellets (solids only) Processed goods such as sheet, film and board materials are excluded. Standard purchased items that are cut or standard products are excluded. Wire Coated wires covered by resin (including magnet wires and optical cables) Printing ink used in writing and marks on GP supplied wires does not have to be from a GP Manufacturer. Gold, silver and copper wires which are not covered by resin are excluded. Paint Surface coatings on products for protection and design purposes (Epoxy, phenol, enamel, lacquer and such) Ink Inks used in boards, exterior, instruction book, cartons and marking of parts Markers and similar items sold in a stationery shop are excluded but selfmanagement is recommended (4 heavy metals:cd Pb Cr Hg)

5 Procurement and Environmental Assurance of Raw Materials Other than the Four Materials * When a supplier purchases raw materials for parts to Sony, the designated materials have to be from Green Partners. Raw materials other than the four materials can be procured from non-green Partners. Use ICP data, Chemical Ingredient List or MSDS for environmental assurance of individual products. ICP data and Chemical Ingredient List (or MSDS) are valid for one year starting from the measuring month for ICP and from the date acquired in the case of the Chemical Ingredient List (or MSDS). However, if you are buying from Green Partner certified suppliers, it is valid as long as there is no change. Report changes made regarding ingredients and formulas at the approval inspection. When materials/components or production process is changed, send Sony samples and documents for parts approval immediately. * When the Green Book materials are used, if the GB numbers are listed in the Certificate of Non-Use then ICP data, Chemical Ingredient List or MSDS do not have to be submitted at the inspection.

7 How To View the Chart Molding Resin Designated 4 Raw Materials ICP Requirement Chemical Ingredient List or MSDS ABS Material means it is a designated raw material means it is NOT a designated raw material means ICP data for Cd/Pb is required means ICP data is not required Note: Data for four heavy metals (Cd Pb Hg Cr 6 ) will be required if it is used in packaging of the set Chemical ingredient list or MSDS is required for all materials

10 Resin Q&A Question Answer Do all resin materials have to be from GP certified factories? If resin is used in purchased parts such as connectors, does it have to be the designated raw material? Only molding resins. Yes. As long as the resin is used, it does not matter whether it s purchased or produced in your own company. What about colorants and dyes? Those are ingredients to fix colors. A colorant by itself is not a designated material, but you need to acquire ICP data if natural materials are colored in your company. *Resins have various item names. 13 Ink Q&A Question When a GP certified parts supplier produces its own ink to use in the company, does the ink still need the GP authorization? Answer No. It s considered that the supplier is giving environmental assurance of the ingredients of the ink (base and auxiliary substances and colorants. Not allowed for use outside the company. Are colorants and dyes targeted? Those are ingredients to fix colors. A colorant by itself is not a designated material. *Inks have various item names. 14 Coated Wire Wire makers assurance is sufficient for resin and ink contained in wire used by GP certified designated raw materials suppliers. When using the same type of resin as coated wire to mold plugs to build into the wire, GP certified wire suppliers assurance is sufficient for plugs as well. Plugs and connectors molded by different kind of resin from the wire or purchased for assembly must be assured by GP certified suppliers. When a supplier molds coated wires, plugs and connectors and uses them in finished products in their own company, Do plugs and connectors still need to be procured from GP makers? No. It s considered that the supplier is giving environmental assurance of the ingredients of the wire. Not allowed for use outside the company. If they wish to market the product, GP authorization is required. When using the same type of resin as coated wire to mold plugs to build into the wire, they re treated in the same way as the wire. (If not built into it, then use the designated raw materials even if they re made from the same type of resin) Plugs and connectors molded by different kind of resin from the wire are classified into designated raw materials and must be procured from GP certified suppliers.
