2 NATOLI.COM LEVEL 1 STANDARD NATOLI PROFESSIONAL POLISHING KITS Punches and dies experience a lot of wear during tablet production, leading to tooling issues like J-hook, scratches and abrasions, tip and head wear, and burred edges. A well-structured polishing program coupled with correct tool polishing equipment will extend tool life, decrease press downtime, and increase high-quality tablet yields by restoring punches and dies to like-new condition. Choosing appropriate polishing equipment is critical for an effective tool maintenance program. Many times, equipment selection is limited to an authorized budget. Unfortunately, most companies will save more in the long run versus noticeable immediate savings. Due to budgetary constraints, things to consider when making your selection are: 1.) the quantity of tool sets required to be polished, 2.) footprint of dedicated maintenance program space available, and 3.) proper training. It is also beneficial to calculate growth for future budget and needs. Before making your final equipment choices, talk with a Natoli representative to discuss the benefits and features of each level. ABOUT LEVEL 1 STANDARD POLISHING Help eliminate tableting issues like picking and sticking with the Level 1 Standard Polishing Kit. This polishing kit is a crucial part of maintaining punch cups. As cups lose luster, they become more likely to cause tableting issues. This hand polishing kit allows you to return the luster to your punch cups, keeping tools in working order and producing longer, while minimizing downtime. PROCEDURE Use Heavy-duty Workwipes (F1) for initial punch cleaning to wipe away oils and product residue. Follow by measuring punch s working length (top of punch head to deepest area of punch cup) before polishing, as tablet quality can be affected if lower punches are inconsistently polished. Lower punches must maintain the same overall length within a set to ensure proper ejection from tablet press. Measure punch working length using the Digital Indicator (B1) while holding punches in place with B or D type Punch Holders (C1, D1). Use the Handheld Magnifier (E1) to inspect for burred edges, tip wear, abrasions and embedded product. Clean product from embossed punch cups using 6 Embossing Pick (Z1). Polish non-embossed punch cups with the Motorized Hand Polisher (I1, K1) using Felt Bobs (M1, N1, O1, P1) with either the White Rouge Bar (W1) or Chrome Gloss Bar (V1). Polish embossed punch cups using Fine Dental Brushes (L1) with either Diamond Compound (R1) or Polishing Paste (X1). Finish by repeating punch working length measurement with Digital Indicator (B1) and cleaning punches with Workwipes. 2

4 NATOLI.COM LEVEL 2 ADVANCED ABOUT ADVANCED POLISHING The Level 2 Advanced Polishing Kit lets you polish like the experts and features the Complete Stainless Steel Polishing Station (A1). Self-contained and moveable, the Polishing Station features a ¾ hp polishing motor and an 18-gauge stainless steel cabinet base. This kit is an absolute must for maintaining and polishing the entire punch body. Remove J-hook and burrs easily, restore land to punch tips, and bring back a mirror-finish to punch cups in one easy step, reducing tableting issues like chipping, picking and sticking. This is the only method to achieve these critical punch maintenance and polishing steps at one time. This full-cabinet system includes: stainless steel cabinet, a buffing motor, vacuum system with filters, buffing wheels, and LED lights. What Is J-Hook? J-HOOK CUP LAND RESTORED PROCEDURE First, wipe tooling off using the Heavy-duty Workwipes (F1) at the tablet press to reduce contamination. Transport and keep punches secure at the work station with the Punch Holding Trays (D2, E2). Use Rectangle LED Magnifier (C2) to quickly inspect for visual imperfections. If necessary, remove product from embossed punch cups with 6 Embossing Pick (Z1). Measure punch working length (from top of punch head to deepest area of the punch cup) using the Digital Indicator (B1), holding punches in place with B or D type Punch Holders (C1, D1). Polish punches using the Stainless Steel Polishing Station (A1) with buffing wheel to polish entire punch, restore land to punch cups, and revitalize punch s mirror-like finish. The Motorized Hand Polisher (I1, K1), Fine Dental Brushes (L1), and Polishing Paste (X1) can be used to help restore embossed cups. Lightly remove excess polish from punch cups with Heavy-duty Workwipes (F1) and check a final time for proper working length tolerances with Digital Indicator (B1). BEFORE TOOL REFURBISHING AFTER TOOL REFURBISHING Refurbishing punch cups with the 10 unsewn buffing wheel eliminates J-hook, the leading cause of capping, lamination, and poor friability. If detected early, J-hook can be easily and quickly be repaired. A large unsewn cotton buffing wheel or a deburring stone effectively eliminates J-hook and restores land to punches. 4

6 NATOLI.COM LEVEL 3 ULTIMATE ABOUT ULTIMATE POLISHING The addition of the Natoli Drag Finisher (A3) in the Level 3 Ultimate Polishing Kit provides a virtually hands-off polishing system featuring automatic operation, LCD touchscreen, and a 300L stainless steel polishing container with the capacity up to 60 B or 72 D punches. As an effective solution with minimum training, drag finishers move punches through polishing media, polishing the entire punch surface in a fraction of the time and ensuring consistent, uniform tool polishing results every time. Be careful of over use however, as drag finishers can remove important edges and reliefs from your tooling. Both walnut shell and allergen-free plastic polishing media can be used with the polishing compound. The Natoli Drag Finisher (A3) has two media chamber options: Standard Media Chamber and the Advanced Media Chamber Cooling System. If concerned about nut allergies, Natoli recommends using only the plastic polishing media and strongly recommends the Advanced Media Chamber Cooling System. Critical Note: As the drag finishing method polishes all parts of the punch, drag finishing is indiscriminate. Over polishing can damage critical punch tips and cause reduction in the sharpness of punch tip reliefs. PROCEDURE Use the Heavy-duty Workwipes (F1) for initial punch cleaning and Rectangle LED Magnifier (C2) to inspect punch for imperfections. Use finger-nail around punch tips to feel for and burrs and J-hook. If necessary, use the Stainless Steel Polishing Station (A2) to polish punch cups and restore land. Measure punch working length with the Digital Indicator (B1), holding punches in place with B or D type Punch Holders (C1, D1). DRAG FINISHER EASY OPERATION Remove punch holders from drag finisher using the quick-release lever. Slide punches into holders and secure into place. Fill media container with your choice of Polishing Media (B3, C3). Set the duration and speed recipe and start the Drag Finisher (A3). Recipes can be permanently stored in the controller for future runs. Punches are fully immersed into the media and dragged in circular motion, removing product, abrasions, and harmful oxidation, while restoring a high-chrome finish to the punch and punch cup. Clean any media residue from punches with Heavy-duty Workwipes (F1) and re-measure working length. Sanitize punches with 99% isopropyl alcohol if returning to production. 6
