1 Phone : Wet weather Hotline : PO Box 235,Mermaid Beach, burleighjuniors@bigpond.com Web : Facebook : BurleighBearsJRLFC Presidents Report August / September 2014 The 2014 season has come to its conclusion and I think all will agree it has been a successful one for the Burleigh Bears. The presentation day for our 6-10 s was a great day out for all, it had a real family fun feel to it, and judging by all the smiling faces the kids can t wait for next season to roll around again. Now the finals series is over for the rest of our age groups I d like to fill you in on how the Burleigh Bears faired. We had 14 teams in contention for silverware this year at the start of the finals series. The teams that contested the Minor Semi Final were U/12's Div 1 Maroon & Div 2 teams, U/13's Div 1 (both teams) & Div 3 team, U/14 Div 1 & U/15 Div 2. From this round all teams progressed except U/13 Div 1 Maroon which were eliminated by the other Burleigh side & U/15 Div 2. In the Major Semi which Burleigh hosted on a very wet and miserable weekend mud footy was the name of the game. A huge thank you to all committee members and club volunteers who gave up their time to ensure our club delivered a fantastic & well run event. The Friday night saw our 2 Burleigh teams contest the U/17 Div 1 with Burleigh Maroon progressing straight to the GF as did the U/15 Div 1 side. Unfortunately the U/14 Div 3 side had a loss but still had a crack at the Preliminary final the following week. In the Preliminary Final we had the U/17 Div 1 Gold, U/14 Div 1 & 3, U/13 Div 1 White & Div 3 and U/12 Div 1 Maroon teams competing. As a club we are very proud to end up with 5 teams contesting Grand Finals in the U/17,15,14 & 12 's in Division 1 and U14's in Division 3. A big congratulations to all our competing age groups from under 10 s Gold who played in the final of the Titans Shield, to the under 17 s Maroon who got the better of Nerang in the Division 1 Grand Final. Our under 14 Division 3 boys got up in a nail biter over a team they had lost to all year and our under 11 s Maroon team had a win in the 11 s Cup Final. There were some personal awards handed out over the Grand Final weekend from Gold Coast District Junior Rugby League. Burleigh Juniors was extremely successful in 3 separate age groups with Will Evans being named the U/13 s Rep Player of the year, Apiata Noema-Matenga, named the U/16 s Rep Player of the year and Caleb Williams named the U/17 s player of the year. All in all it has been a fantastic year and the future certainly looks bright for the Burleigh Heads JRLFC. Go The BEARS!!! Jason Burkhardt REMEMBER: When you are supporting your team/club to Keep it Positive or it s Pointless.
