Its only been a few months since the last update but much has happened since the May issue! France have won the World Cup, Trump is leaving behind a trail of chaos on his international travels and the UK's Brexit talks seem to be in turmoil. We welcomed many of you to the 2018 AGM in Cryprus which saw the start of exciting changes within LEI and the new board introductions. Pablo Bonfill has been visiting member firms following on from the AGM. He has recently returned from meeting with KAŇKA & ŠAFKA in Czech Republic, Schmidtmayr Sorgo Wanke Rechtsanwalte OG in Austria, Havrilla & Co. s.r.o in Slovakia and Dragomir & Asociatii in Romania. Date for the diary The Annual General meeting 2019 will be held in Milan from Thursday 30 May to Saturday 2 June LEI are now also on Facebook FB - LEI LAUNCH NEW WEBSITE The new website is now live! The responsive, mobile friendly website provides users with a visual and easier format to navigate. We have also enhanced the membership and practice groups areas. Keep an eye out for the updates on the new members area which will be live shortly! RECRUITMENT OF NEW MEMBERS We are actively seeking to recruit new members and are targeting certain jurisdictions which include Scotland and Germany (but this is not exclusive). As part of the recruitment drive we have created an 'Introduction to LEI' leaflet which provides an overview of the network and its key benefits. All members will receive a copy of this document as we are aware many of you travel meeting with clients and lawyers in many different countries.

4 Annual General Meeting - May 2018 Thank you to our Cypriot member firm Lellos P. Demetriades Law Office LLC for hosting LEI s 2018 conference in May. At the conference the Board presented the new strategy and how its implementation will affect the development of LEI moving forward over the next 12 months. Limasol 2018 was geared towards maximising interaction, building up networking, sharing of experiences, learning from the experiences of other. AGM MILAN Thursday 30 May - Saturday 2 June 2019 Venue: Milan city center, Westin Palace hotel TBC AGM key highlights 29 Attendees New board team welcomed Tim Ashdown and Pablo Bonfill. Introduction of network s consultant, James Mendelssohn Milan 2019 to be a shorter conference James Mendelssohn presented on 'Opportunity through change'. Focus around what does the network look like in 5 years and being prepared to change Tim Ashdown, Chairman presented on the LEI's strategic approach (1)To strengthen the European presence of LEI organically, focusing on the recruitment of established firms in the capital cities of the major economies and (2) on a worldwide basis, to ensure that the global needs of all member firms and their clients can be met by having processes in place to identify appropriate law firms throughout the world on a needs basis Pablo Bonfill provided update on how the strategy is going to be achieved and progress to date. This include Website, Recruitment, BD executive, Newsletter, Firm visits and Social media Appointment of Claire Peers to help with marketing and BD Speed networking session demonstrated the depth of the relationships already in the group but also highlighted the need for member firms to 'get to know' other members expertise. 5 LEI MEMBER FIRM SPOTLIGHT Dragomir & Asociatii Law Firm - Romanian Member firm Dragomir & Asociatii Law Firm was established in early 1996 and has 10 fee earners based in Bucharest. They have specialist expertise in Public Procument where D&A Procurement team advises tenderers and contracting authorities on all aspects related to the procedure for the award of public works contracts, supply contracts and service contracts financed by national and European funds, as well as on the applicable EU and Romanian legal framework. D&A is part of the three law firm consortium which has been awarded following a public procurement procedure with the Framework Agreement to legally represent and assist for the next 4 years the Municipality of Bucharest represented through the General Mayor of Bucharest. D&A is one of the law firms selected also following a public procurement procedure to provide legal services to the General Council of the Municipality of Bucharest. D&A has won a series of disputes arising out of the performance of contracts having as object coastal protection, funded by European funds, with an estimated value of more than 170,000, (one of the largest infrastructure projects in Romania) for a major company which operates worldwide in more than fifty countries as a leading contractor for dredging, marine engineering and offshore energy projects (oil, gas and wind). At the present time, D&A manages arbitration proceedings for the same major company mentioned above, arising out of the performance of FIDIC Contracts with an estimated value of more than 23,000, and provides legal consultancy during the execution of public procurement procedures for the development of other major environmental projects funded by European funds. D&A is currently providing day to day legal assistance for a company which is a global leader in the design, manufacture and customer support of high-quality premium trucks (division of an American Fortune 500 company which counts among the largest manufacturers of medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles in the world). D&A has won a series of disputes arising out of transport contracts for a well known worldwide insurance company which has been ranked as of 2017, the world's 91st largest public company according to Forbes' Global 2000s list, and in 2011 has been ranked 94th in Interbrand's top100 brands. During the last months, Mrs. Alina Lefter, one of the partner lawyers, has published on legal web-sites a series of extensive studies covering the topical issues such as dispute resolution modality provided in previous forms of FIDIC - contracts applicable in Romania, legally binding arbitration clause, Corruption.
