1 It has been a very busy and fruitful months for ICES HK Region in March and April in On 14 March 2017 the AGM was successfully held and the new Committee Members for was elected. Shortly after the AGM we have the Annual Dinner 2017 being held on 7 April 2017 where we have 220 people attended the Annual Dinner with the presence of the Guest of Honour Ir.C K Hon, special guest Dr. Lo Wai Kwok, our President Mr. Harry Bell, the Chief Examiner Mr. Ian Cowling, our newly elected Chairman Mr. L C Yu and other honourable guests from different sectors and the construction industry. The President and the Chief Examiner also announced that the Chartered Engineer Registration will be implemented in Hong Kong for ICES Members in early 2018 which is an important milestone development for HK Region and it will enhance the professional status in Hong Kong. The ICES HK Region Newsletter will communicate to our members the latest events and development of the HK Region and keep our members in touch of the issues which are of common interest to all members and the professional development topics in our industry. Region Newsletter Editor: Kenneth Lee Newsletter Consultant: Daniel Sum info@cices.org.hk 14 March 2017: The Annual General Meeting was held in Kam Tao Heen of the Scout Centre in Austin Road. 25 members attended the AGM and the Principal Officers were elected in the AGM. The Chairman elected was Mr. L C Yu, the Honorary Secretary elected was Mr. Daniel Sum and the Honorary Treasurer elected was Mr. Martin Chan.

2 In the AGM it also passed the financial statement of the HK Region and discussing the various issues which are of importance to the Committee and the Region. After the AGM the dinner was held, there was greetings and appreciation message delivered to the Immediate Past Chairlady Ms. Miranda Lui and the Committee Members of for their efforts and hardworking in bringing the Region forward and keep the Region in a highly competitive advantage amongst the competitive professional environments in Hong Kong. 25 March 2017: Our Senior Vice Chairman and Honorary Secretary Mr. Daniel Sum, Vice Chairman (Membership) Mr. Eric Tse, Honorary Treasurer Mr. Martin Chan together with Mr. Henry Tsoi and Mr. Raymond Lam went to the site of Dragages Hong Kong Ltd. to introduce the ICES professional membership to their staffs. A power point presentation was given to introduce the benefits and professional status of being the members of ICES and the road to the Chartered Engineer in the long term. More than 20 Dragages staffs were present in the event.

3 7 Apr 2017: Our President Mr. Harry Bell and the Chief Examiner Mr. Ian Cowling together with the key Committee Members of the HK Region visited the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS), the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers (HKIE) and the Construction Industry Council (CIC) on 7 April 2017 to discuss the various issues of common interest to the respective professional organizations, the implementation of the Chartered Engineers Registration in Hong Kong by ICES in early 2018 and the benefits that can be brought by the said registration to the ICES Members. 6 7 Apr 2017: The Annual Dinner 2017 being held on 7 April 2017 in Royal Plaza Hotel where we have 220 people attended the Annual Dinner with the presence of the Guest of Honour, Permanent Secretary for Development Bureau (Works) of HKSAR Government Ir. C K Hon, special guest Dr. Lo Wai Kwok, our President Mr. Harry Bell, the Chief Examiner Mr. Ian Cowling, our new Chairman Mr. L C Yu and other honourable guests from different sectors and the construction industry Committee members were proposing a toast to all guests

9 10 Apr 2017: Chief Examiner Mr. Ian Cowling held an Examiner Training Workshop to the existing examiners and the new examiners, to refresh and provide new information to examiners for conducting the ICES Professional Examination to the candidates who apply for the professional memberships in both GE and CM streams.

10 11 Apr 2017: Chief Examiner Mr. Ian Cowling held a CPD Event on Road to IEng for outlining the process of application, the benefits of being an IEng or CEng and the requirements of the application. The registration scheme is intended to be implemented in early 2018 for the HK Region s professional members.
