2 Professor Ger Mass Ger Maas has, since 1998, worked as Director of Strategy at Koninklijke BAM Groep in Bunnik, a European construction company employing approximately 28,000 people. He is involved in internal organisation development and a number of major projects on new forms of contracts. He has been professor of Construction Management and Engineering at the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (Eindhoven University of Technology) since He is co-chair of the research group Performance Engineering for the Built Environment (PEBE) of the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning. Key topics include strategic partnering, collaborative engineering, integral risk management and health engineering. Until 1990, he worked at NV Strukton Groep in Maarssen, where he was involved in the design and execution of such projects as the renovation of the foundation of the Amsterdam Concert Hall, the Willemsspoortunnel railway tunnel in Rotterdam, the reorganisation and renovation of Medisch Spectrum Twente hospital and the Schipholspoortunnel railway tunnel. Since February 2010 he is chairman of ECTP (European Construction Technology Platform). ECTP unites over 120 member organisations (large construction companies, universities, research centres, civil society organisations). The platform is founded in 2004 to formulate a vision and a strategic agenda for research and development within the European construction sector. ECTP distinguishes seven focus areas, namely underground construction, cities and buildings, quality of life, materials, cultural heritage and processes and ICT. ECTP activities recently resulted in E2B (Energy Efficient Buildings), a vast PPP-project between the European Commission and the construction industry to make the existing stock of the built environment more energy efficient. Since 2008 Ger Maas is also president of the ENCORD, European Network of Construction Companies for Research and Development and chairman of the steering committee and core group DeltaNeth (Netherlands Dutch National Technology Platform).

3 Professor Gabriel M. Crean C.Eng. C.Phys. F.I.E.I., F.InstP. Professor Gabriel Crean is Scientific Director of the Division of Technological Research of the Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission (CEA) of France. This division includes three world class research institutes in Micro- NanoTechnologies (LETI), New Technologies for Energy (LITEN) and Information Technology (LIST) in Paris and Grenoble. He is an Advisor to the Administrator General (President) of the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble (INPG) on research politics as well as a visiting Professor. He is an invited Research Professor at the Materials Research Institute, Northwestern University, USA. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers of Ireland and a Fellow of the Institute of Physics of the U.K. Prior to his current responsibilities, Professor Crean was Vice President for Research and Innovation at Athlone Institute of Technology (until April 2010) and an Adjunct Professor at Dublin City University within the Faculty of Science and Health. He is the Director of the Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology funded International Centre for Graduate Studies in Micro- and Nano-Engineering, which is an initiative amongst twelve academic partners in Europe, Asia and the US. He was the Director of the Irish National Microelectronic Research Centre (Tyndall Institute) for six years and Director of the Enterprise Ireland Optoelectronics Research Centre, both at University College Cork, Cork, Ireland and Professor of Microelectronic Engineering in the Department of Microelectronic Engineering at University College Cork. He has been awarded Scholarships from both the French Government and the Centre National des Telecommunications (CNET), France. At an international level, Professor Crean is the immediate Past President of the International Union of Materials Research Societies ( He is President Emeritus of the European Materials Research Society (E-MRS). He was the Irish Representative to the European Science Foundation (ESF) Standing Committee for Physical and Engineering Sciences from and remains on this committee as an invited observer of the European Materials Forum. He has acted as a consultant for European Governments and the European Union (EU) Research Directorate. In particular, he was a member of two international panels reviewing the Spanish and Finnish Government programmes in ICT-related science, technology and innovation. Professor Crean is a co-founder of three high-technology start-up companies, FireComms Ltd., Optical Metrology Innovations Ltd and Biosensia Ltd. Professor Crean has been Chairman of several international conferences and symposia. He will be the European Co-chair of the 2011 Materials World Summit on Materials for Energy Technologies to be held in Washington, USA, in September 2011.

4 Dr. Wolfgang Plischke Dr. Wolfgang Plischke has been a member of the Board of Management of Bayer AG since March 1, He is responsible for Innovation, Technology and Environment, and for the Asia/Pacific region. From July 1, 2002 until his appointment to the Bayer AG Board, he was a member of the Bayer HealthCare Executive Committee and head of the Pharmaceuticals Division. Wolfgang Plischke was born in Stuttgart, Germany on September 15, He studied biology at Hohenheim University before starting his career in 1980 with Bayer s subsidiary Miles Diagnostics. In 1995 he became President of Bayer Yakuhin Ltd., Japan, with responsibility for Pharmaceuticals and Consumer Care. In 2000 Dr. Plischke took over as head of the Pharmaceuticals Business Group in North America. In January 2002 he was appointed head of the Pharmaceuticals Business Group at Bayer AG with responsibility for the global business with prescription drugs. Dr. Plischke also holds a number of offices outside of Bayer AG. He is a member of the board of the Ludwig Heilmeyer Society, the German Asia-Pacific Business Association and chairman of the Association of Research-based Pharmaceutical Companies (VFA). In addition, he is a member of the boards of trustees of the Paul Ehrlich Foundation and the German Chemical Industry Fund. Dr. Plischke is also Vice President of the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) as well as the chairman of the Programme Council Research and Innovation.

5 Jean-Noël Durvy Jean-Noël Durvy has a double education in Sciences (Mathematics) and Economics (Ph D). He worked during a few years in France as statistician in the Prime Minister s services and lecturer in the University of Rheims. He joined the European Commission on October 1978, where he started in the informatics directorate. He became head of unit in September 1988 at the DG Information Society where he was successively head of the unit Evaluation and exploitation of research results ( ) and Strategic aspects of innovation and exploitation of RTD results Intellectual property rights ( ). He joined the DG Enterprise and Industry as head of the Innovation policy unit ( ) and head of the unit Financing SMEs, entrepreneurs and innovators ( ). He became Director for Innovation Policy in DG Enterprise and Industry in The Directorate is composed of four units: Innovation policy development, Support for innovation, Financing SMEs, entrepreneurs and innovators, Technology for innovation / ICT industries and e-business. The Directorate is responsible of the elaboration and implementation of the strategy for innovation in the European Union and of a significant part of the Competitiveness and Innovation programme (3,6 billion Euros).
