Sally Jewell Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell was sworn in as the 51st Secretary of the Interior on April 12, In nominating Jewell, President Obama said, She is an expert on the energy and climate issues that are going to shape our future. She is committed to building our nation-to-nation relationship with Indian Country. She knows the link between conservation and good jobs. She knows that there's no contradiction between being good stewards of the land and our economic progress; that in fact, those two things need to go hand in hand. As Secretary of the Interior, Jewell leads an agency with more than 70,000 employees. Interior serves as steward for approximately 20 percent of the nation's lands, including national parks, national wildlife refuges, and other public lands; oversees the responsible development of conventional and renewable energy supplies on public lands and waters; is the largest supplier and manager of water in the 17 Western states; and upholds trust responsibilities to the 566 federally recognized American Indian tribes and Alaska Natives. Prior to her confirmation, Jewell served in the private sector, most recently as President and Chief Executive Officer of Recreation Equipment, Inc. (REI). Jewell joined REI as Chief Operating Officer in 2000 and was named CEO in During her tenure, REI nearly tripled in business to $2 billion and was consistently ranked one of the 100 best companies to work for by Fortune Magazine. Before joining to REI, Jewell spent 19 years as a commercial banker, first as an energy and natural resources expert and later working with a diverse array of businesses that drive our nation's economy. Trained as a petroleum engineer, Jewell started her career with Mobil Oil Corp. in the oil and gas fields of Oklahoma and the exploration and production office in Denver, Colo. where she was exposed to the remarkable diversity of our nation's oil and gas resources. An avid outdoorswoman, Jewell finds time to explore her backyard in the Pacific Northwest where she enjoys skiing, kayaking, hiking and other activities. She has scaled Mount Rainier on seven occasions, and recently climbed Vinson Massif, the highest mountain in Antarctica. Jewell has worked to ensure that public lands are accessible and relevant to all people from all backgrounds, and to build a connection between the great outdoors and a new generation of Americans. Jewell is a graduate of the University of Washington. She and her husband, Warren, have two adult children, Peter and Anne.

5 Hon. Catherine A. Novelli Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, U.S. Department of State Catherine A. Novelli was sworn in as Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment on February 18, In this capacity, she leads the State Department s efforts to develop and implement economic growth, energy, oceans, environmental, and science and technology policies to promote economic prosperity and address global challenges in a transparent, rules-based, and sustainable system. She is also the State Department s Senior Coordinator for International Information Technology Diplomacy. Prior to assuming her current duties, she was Vice President, Worldwide Government Affairs at Apple, Inc. In that role, Ms. Novelli headed a multinational international team responsible for Apple s federal, international, and state and local government relations and public policy. Formerly Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Europe & the Mediterranean, Ms. Novelli coordinated U.S. trade and investment policy for the over 65 countries of Western Europe, Central Europe, Russia, the NIS, the Middle East and Northern Africa. She has taken a leading role in many of the most important U.S. trade negotiations in Europe, Russia, the Middle East, and North Africa. As the point person for the $1 trillion economic relationship between the United States and Europe, Ms. Novelli led efforts to ensure access to the European market for U.S. manufactured and agricultural products. Ms. Novelli was the lead strategist in creating the United States free trade agenda with the Middle East. She led free trade agreement negotiations with Jordan, Morocco and Bahrain, Oman and United Arab Emirates. She chaired the Trade and Investment Framework Councils with a number of countries in the region, including Turkey, Egypt, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Algeria. As the Deputy Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Central and Eastern Europe and Eurasia, she negotiated most of the bilateral trade and investment agreements that underpin our economic relationship in that region. Ms. Novelli is a graduate of Tufts University, holds a law degree from the University of Michigan and a Master of Laws from University of London (with concentrations in international and comparative law at the London School of Economics and School of Oriental and Asian Studies).

6 Christy Goldfuss Managing Director, CEQ Christy Goldfuss serves as Managing Director at the White House Council on Environmental Quality. Christy helps oversee implementation of the President s Climate Action Plan and works with other White House partners on new strategies to tackle this global challenge. She also leads work to advance the President s agenda for protecting the lands and waters Americans value. Christy has significant experience as a leader on a range of environmental issues, most recently as a deputy director of the National Park Service where she helped lead efforts to set and meet strategic goals related to conservation and preservation of America s natural and cultural heritage. In this capacity, she identified ways to make Federal resources more accessible, including by spearheading the Administration s Every Kid in a Park initiative. Prior to joining the Administration, Christy created and directed the Public Lands Project at the Center for American Progress. Previously, she worked as legislative staff for the House Committee on Natural Resources and as a reporter in Richmond, VA, Reno, NV and Redding, CA. David J. Hayes Chair, US Wildlife Trafficking Alliance David J. Hayes is a Distinguished Visiting Lecturer at the Stanford Law School, where he has been teaching courses focused on renewable and conventional energy, wildlife trafficking, NEPA reform, natural resources, and climate change. He consults with foundations and non-profit organizations on energy and environmental matters. Hayes also is a Consulting Professor at Stanford's Woods Institute for the Environment; a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress; Chair of the U.S. Wildlife Trafficking Alliance & Vice Chair of the President's Advisory Council on Wildlife Trafficking. Hayes is a member of the White House's Trade & Environmental Policy Advisory Council. He serves on the Advisory Council of Stanford's Lane Center for the American West; Pacific Gas & Electric Company's Sustainability Advisory Council; and on the Board of Advantek Waste Management Services. Hayes served both Presidents Obama and Clinton as the Deputy Secretary of the Department of the Interior from 2009 to 2013 and from 1999 to 2001, respectively.

7 Terry Garcia Chief Science and Exploration Officer, National Geographic Society Terry Garcia has been the Chief Science and Exploration Officer at the National Geographic Society since However, from he was the Executive Vice President of Mission Programs and the President of Licensing at the National Geographic Society. Mr. Garcia was also a commissioner on the National Commission on BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling, the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere in the DOC, and general counsel at NOAA. Terry is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Amazonian Center for Environmental Education and Research, and the Institute for Exploration/Mystic Aquarium, and a member of the US National Committee for Census of Marine Life, the Advisory Board for Harte Research Institute of Gulf of Mexico Studies at Texas A&M University, and even Trustee emeritus of the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation. Mr. Garcia has also served on panels convened by the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Public Administration.
