1 PATHWAYS STUDENT PROFILES
2 Peter Peter studied culinary arts through the regional occupation program and was proud to be one of only four students to pass the ServSafe test in fall (He had the highest score in the class.) He also enrolled in a business class for entrepreneurs at COM in the spring. His dream is to own his own restaurant someday. He is currently working on his AA degree at a community college.
3 Cassidy In the fall of 2011, Cassie had the opportunity to follow two of her passions: filmmaking and animals. She took a course at College of Marin in beginning filmmaking and was an intern at Lily s Senior Dog Sanctuary in Forest Knolls. In the spring, she was enrolled in another film class through ROP which included an internship working with a filmmaker. She continued her studies at COM following graduation.
4 Julia Julia took an Abnormal Psychology class at College of Marin. She is interested in becoming a clinical psychologist for individuals with severe psychological impairments and is interested in art therapy. In the fall she did an internship teaching art workshops for young children. She graduated early and is continuing her education at COM before transferring to a four-year college.
5 Nava Nava is passionate about art and excelled in a drawing and composition class at the College of Marin in the fall of She had an internship with an artist in Fairfield. Nava expanded her artistic skills through classes in jewelry making and sculpture during the spring semester. In the fall of 2012, she traveled to Europe and then enrolled at COM upon her return.
6 Dominic Dominic is extremely passionate about his music and enrolled in a Desktop Musician class at College of Marin to gain even more knowledge about music in order to continue to improve his skills. He hopes to have a music career as a side job, along with his actual career. His dream is to be able to support himself as a Radiology Technician and still be able to pursue his musical dreams on the side. Dominic did his internship at the Intel Clubhouse in San Rafael and participated in Kaiser s Youth Health Forum in the fall. His plans are to eventually move on to a university to complete the education necessary to become a Radiology Technician.
7 Kayanti Kay spent two semesters studying culinary arts through the regional occupation program, including an internship at New Beginnings in Novato. Kay was excited to have passed his ServSafe test and received his certification, which he is using now as a middle man for local fishermen and local organic gardeners, helping to get their products to market. He developed a passion for photography in the spring and has had numerous art showings since and has sold a lot of his work.
8 Milly Milly took two early childhood education classes during the school year, as well as a number of dance classes. She also performed in a number of COM dance recitals. She completed a successful internship at a pre-school in Mill Valley. Following graduation, she has continued her early childhood education classes at COM, as well as dance and general education classes. Milly hopes to be the owner/director of her own pre-school someday.
9 Gabe Gabe is passionate about music and ace his Desktop Musician classes at College of Marin in the fall and spring. Gabe also took a music production class through ROP and did an internship with them. In addition, he took a business class at COM to help him achieve his goal of owning and operating his own music studio someday. He enrolled at COM following graduation and is currently working to get his AA degree.
10 Chris Chris spent two semesters studying culinary arts through the regional occupation program, which included an internship at New Beginnings in Novato. He successfully passed his ServSafe test with the second highest score in the class and was hired to work weekends for Fresh Starts Catering. He is currently taking classes at COM and trying to decide on a future career.
11 Makayla Makayla successfully completed five Medical Assisting classes at IVC during her year in Pathways. She also had an internship at Kaiser in the radiology department. After graduation, Makayla enrolled at Boston Reed to complete her studies. She is now a certified medical assistant and hopes to get a job at Kaiser. Her plan is to return to school part-time, while working full-time, to continue her studies and earn a degree in nursing.
12 Lilly Lilly took three courses in the field of Medical Assisting and did an internship at Kaiser while in the Pathways program. She changed her mind about becoming a medical assistance after graduation. She is currently taking general education classes at COM and trying to decide on a future career.
13 Henry Henry joined Pathways in the spring of He was considering a number of different career choices. He was enrolled in two Automotive Collision Repair courses at IVC and did an internship at an elementary school. Henry is currently taking general education classes at COM trying to decide on a future career.
14 Zoe Zoe joined Pathways in the spring of She had many career interests ranging from interior design to advertising and social work. She hoped to learn more about her different fields of interest through taking a sociology class at College of Marin and participating in an internship working with the California Film Institute in their advertising department.
15 Nina Nina joined Pathways in the spring of She became interested in pursuing a career in early childhood education after serving an internship in a pre-school. She was enrolled in an early childhood education course at College of Marin and continued her studies there following graduation from high school.
16 Michael Michael s dream is to become a respiratory therapist to help others like him who have asthma. He began his journey by taking a medical terminology class at IVC during his time in Pathways. He worked with a respiratory therapist as an intern with Kaiser. Following graduation, Michael continued his studies at COM.
17 Austin Austin would love to become a firefighter someday and have a side business making surfboards. To this end, took a medical terminology class and a fire technology class at IVC during his time in Pathways. He also had an internship at a surf shop, learning how to shape boards.
18 Allison Allison s dream is to become an architect someday. She was enrolled in a 3-D art class at College of Marin and was getting ready to begin an internship with an architect firm when she had to move and leave the Pathways program before the end of the school year. She is getting ready to return to Marin and hopes to return to COM to continue her studies.
19 Sierra Sierra is passionate about art, especially ceramics. In the fall of 2011, she successfully completed a ceramics class at the College of Marin, as well as a Japanese class. She had an internship with a pottery artist in Sausalito. She did some traveling and has continued her education at COM taking additional art classes, as well as general education classes.
20 Forest Forest took a sociology class and a psychology class at College of Marin in the fall of 2011 while in Pathways. He was an intern with the Twin Cities Coalition for Healthy Youth and served as the school board representative for San Andreas. Forest decided to complete his senior year at Drake, but continued his education at COM in the spring of 2012, taking classes in astronomy and geology. He is currently an undergraduate college student at Maharishi University of Management in Iowa where he is majoring in Media and Communications
21 Gia Gia was in Pathways for one semester and successfully completed a course in Early Childhood Education at College of Marin. Gia also participated in three consecutive internships, one at an elementary school and the others in two very different pre-schools. She continued her education at COM after her graduation.
22 Janine Janine graduated in December of 2011 after completing a semester studying culinary arts through the regional occupation program. She successfully passed the ServSafe test and received her certification. She enrolled in four classes at COM the following spring to work on general education requirements.
