On that occasion, 7 senior partners and over 180 employees who were working at ML&Cia created Kasznar Leonardos. Our firm inherited a priceless legacy from Momsen: highly-qualified professionals and almost a century of experience in protecting and enforcing the patents, trademarks, and copyrights of some of the largest companies in the world. Kasznar provides Brazilian and foreign companies with a wide range of technical and judicial services in intellectual property (IP) areas such as trademarks, domain names, patents, copyrights, geographical indications, computer and software rights, unfair competition, trade secrets and confidential data, litigation and dispute resolution, publicity law, anti-piracy, industrial designs, technology transfer, franchising and licensing, regulatory healthcare law, and the protection of plant varieties. In these areas, Kasznar s team acts as attorneys in the prosecution of applications; as legal counsels in licensing and other contract matters; as lawyers in litigation and arbitration; and as neutrals in arbitration and mediation. Around 70% of Kasznar s clients are multinational companies from industries such as oil and gas, energy, chemical, food, pharmaceuticals, biotech, steel, aviation, auto, electronics, telecommunications, and information technology. Where does the name Kasznar Leonardos come from? Our firm is named after the senior partners and IP experts Elisabeth Kasznar Fekete, Filipe Leonardos and Gabriel Leonardos.

Ms Kasznar Fekete worked at Momsen for 32 years, and for 27 years she was the head of the firm's São Paulo office. Her international practice is focused on IP litigation and transactional matters. Also, she is currently the President of the foremost Brazilian entity dedicated to IP matters, the Brazilian Association of Intellectual Property (ABPI). Mr. Filipe Leonardos is a reputed trademark lawyer and Mr. Gabriel Leonardos is a celebrated IP litigation and licensing lawyer, both of them with 30 years experience. The other three senior partners of the firm Eduardo Colonna Rosman, Gustavo Barbosa and João Luis Vianna have been running our prestigious patent department for decades. We also provide counsel regarding domain names and copyright registrations, assisting our clients in all steps of the process. Our Trademark Department provides clients with a comprehensive search, covering word, composite and device trademarks with the aim to detect possible obstacles to the registration of a trademark and deepen the analysis in a specific market segment. After filing a trademark application by following the most important parameters notably, the Industrial Property Law, the Paris Union Convention, and the BPTO regulations we enter it into our data base system in order to keep track of its publications in the weekly editions of the Official Gazette. We focus on providing legal advice to our clients in a competent, creative, straightforward and frankly manner. Sometimes, resorting to litigation before the Courts or to ADR mechanisms is inevitable and, in such cases, we always offer our clients alternative procedures, depicting clearly the risks and costs deriving from each legal strategy to be pursued. In Brazil, any decision by the Executive branch of the Administration (e.g. rendered by the Patent & Trademark Office, or by ANVISA, the food & drug regulatory agency) may be challenged in Courts. Thereby, whenever an administrative decision that does not reflect a client's interest is rendered, we carefully analyze its grounds, so as to advise our clients about the chances of challenging it through a law-suit. Our Litigation and Legal Advice Department is also responsible for cases in which intellectual property rights have been infringed.
