As you may know, Visit Sarasota County s Board of Directors hvs provided the administrative support and structure for the Sarasota Bayfront 20:20 Stakeholders organization from the start. That organization became independent from Visit Sarasota this spring in a process designed by a Task Force whose members included Kathy Kelley Ohlrich and Bob Pirollo. It called for the establishment of a Steering Committee comprised of 6 stakeholder representatives and Michael Klauber as its chair. The purpose of the Steering Committee is very simple. It is a communications portal among the Stakeholder representatives, the Sarasota Bayfront Planning Organization and the community. They are NOT a decision-making entity. That responsibility rests with the City Commission. The first election of the Steering Committee was a fair and open process. The opportunity to run for a seat was open to all 55 Stakeholder representatives and was well advertised. Sixteen Stakeholder representatives came forward to run, five of them were women. On the day of the election, the Stakeholder representatives were provided a brief bio on each candidate and a ballot and they elected 6 members to the Steering Committee who happened to be all male. Now that the Stakeholders do have a Steering Committee in place, they can use a nominating committee to ensure future diversity and representation as they move forward. Thanks Virginia J.
