How about helping at the Conine Classic? We are happy to welcome Kelly Britten and Sean Todd to the Sport and Recreation Management family this semester. Both have great experience which you can read about on the next two pages. Kelly will be teaching SPT 5930, Sport Event and Fundraising Strategies and Techniques. Sean will be teaching SPT 3150, Facilities and Event Management. Both classes take place the second 8 weeks of the Winter Term. Professor Olson who was teaching those classes will serve as their mentor. However, their experience speaks for themselves! 2 KELLY BRITTEN Kelly Britten is entering her seventh year with Castle Group and serves as the Head Property Manager for an upscale, luxury condominium in Weston, Florida. Kelly originally joined the company in 2011 as the Lifestyle Director, overseeing all of the events and activities for the residents at the property. Soon thereafter, Britten earned her CAM license with the State of Florida on the way to transitioning to property management. Kelly is responsible for a staff of 13 in addition to a multi-million dollar budget to maintain and enhance the property of 350 condos, 32 villas and nearly a dozen recreational areas. During her tenure with Castle Group, she has been a recipient on multiple occasions of Castle Value Awards, recognized for exemplary leadership and achievements by the company. Prior to joining Castle Group, Kelly spent six years with the Miami Marlins, the majority of which as the Events Coordinator for the Marlins Foundation. Kelly s responsibilities involved the planning, coordinating and execution of all foundation fundraising efforts and events for the club. Kelly earned her Bachelor s in Sports Administration at Florida State University and a Master s in Sports Administration from Barry University. Kelly is also an active leader and participant in the Castle Cares program, served as a mentor for Women of Tomorrow, and has volunteered for Junior Achievement and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Britten was born in South Miami and currently resides in Pembroke Pines, FL with her husband and two children. A NOTE FROM PROFESSOR OLSON Kelly Britten was actually my Event Coordinator when I worked for the Marlins as the Executive Director for team s Foundation. Kelly brings experience, creativity and enthusiasm which I know that our graduate students will enjoy. I have known Sean Todd for several years. Read about him on the next page. He is another great addition to our department. He not only has event experience, but his knowledge about what it takes to run facilities will enhance our students learning. It is very exciting that we have found two outstanding adjuncts to compliment our Sport and Recreation Management program.

3 SEAN TODD A long-time supporter and volunteer for the Jason Taylor Foundation, Sean Todd currently serves as Director of Operations for the football hero s non-profit organization. Since officially joining the staff in September of 2014, Todd has been responsible for logistics, planning, and operations of all Foundation special events and fundraisers, including its annual Celebrity Golf Classic and Ping-Pong Smash. His strategic planning was a key component in the launch and execution of Louder Than A Bomb Florida, a 12-day youth poetry festival highlighted by an Olympic style poetry tournament featuring 28 high school teams in 2015 and 37 teams in Todd has also instituted systemic processes for the Foundation s donor data collection, auction management, volunteer coordination and internship programming. Prior to joining the Jason Taylor Foundation, Todd spent one season as Florida International University s Director of Football Operations following a long tenure with Florida Atlantic University Football. He joined FAU s football staff in advance of the school s inaugural season and was instrumental in handling the football operations through Originally hired as Coordinator of Football Operations in June of 2001, Todd was promoted to Assistant Director in the spring of 2005, and Assistant AD for Football Operations in the summer of Todd's duties included assisting head coach Howard Schnellenberger with the day-to-day operations of the football program, team travel, football event management and all football related special events. In addition, Todd assisted administratively with academics, compliance, recruiting, scheduling and served as FAU's pro liaison. Prior to Florida Atlantic, Todd worked in the operations department with the Miami Dolphins under Don Shula, Jimmy Johnson and Dave Wannstedt. While with the Dolphins, he was responsible for team travel, coordination of training camp and facility functionality. During his tenure, Todd was instrumental in the development of the league-wide Travel Coordinators' Survey and the now formally recognized travel coordinator's group who meet annually in conjunction with the NFL Owners' Meetings. Todd began his career with the Dolphins as an intern while earning his Master of Science degree in sports administration from St. Thomas University (May '96) in Miami Gardens, FL. While at STU, he also gained experience with the Florida Marlins, Florida Panthers, the University of Miami and with Super Bowl XXIX. Before relocating to South Florida in February of 1994, Todd earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication arts from Salisbury University (December '93) in Salisbury, MD. Originally from Georgetown, DE, Todd attended Sussex Central High School and is married to the former Laura Courtley who is director of athletics at St. Thomas University. They reside in Sunrise, FL and have one daughter, Sidney.

12 Hi Professor Olson, WE GET LETTERS! I hope all is going well for you. We will once again be identifying a few good candidates to come in and interview to join the Super Fan team. We will be looking for a day to day operations and customer service specialist to assist in a wide range of different tasks for our company. One huge update is that I was able to get some compensation approved for the spring semester (if it s part of an internship), and also will be looking to transition that candidate to a full time salaried role beginning in June. I know how difficult it currently is to find employment upon graduation, and this person will all but be guaranteed a role moving forward with the company. If you have any specific students or other promising individuals in mind I would love to reach out and introduce myself. I am anticipating this being different than just a basic job post in that there is a much larger opportunity to be had that goes beyond a normal 9 to 5. 13 WE GET LETTERS! Good afternoon Dr. Finely, I hope your semester went well. I coordinate the game presentation here with the Florida Panthers, which in includes managing our kids club. I am looking for some Sports Management majors that are local, looking for some sales and game day experience. This is a paid job and is a great opportunity for students to not only get sales experience but customer service, entertainment, and game presentation experience as well. This job is primarily a sales job on the concourse selling our kids club however also includes some in game promotions, non-profit interaction and event management.
