2 Girls Tennis The Blake School earns third consecutive team title; returns to championship form; Prior Lakes Jackson wins second doubles crown The Blake School of (Class A) earned its third consecutive team title and 19th overall after defeating Holy Family Catholic of Victoria 7-0. Senior Lainey Axell of The Blake School won her first singles crown and sophomore Clare Palen and junior Natalie Allison of claimed top honors in the doubles tournament. Axell also won a doubles title with Sophie Skallerud in In Class AA, won its 32nd team championship. The Hornets, whose string of 19 consecutive state championships came to an end last year, claimed top honors after dismissing St. Cloud Tech 7-0. Sophomore Nicole Copeland of won the singles title, while senior Taylor Jackson and junior Charlotte Bowles of Prior Lake reigned supreme in the doubles competition. This was the second consecutive doubles title for Jackson; she won with Savanna Crowell in Class A The Blake School won its third consecutive championship in Class A. The Bears won the team title for the 19th time in program history with a 7-0 victory over Holy Family Catholic in the championship match. Senior Lainey Axell got the Bears going with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over sophomore senior Sophie Lynch at No. 1 singles. Arlina Shen, a sophomore, followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over ninth-grader Ally Agerland in the No. 2 spot. In the third-place match, Rochester Lourdes defeated Osakis 6-1. posted a 6-1 victory over Virginia in the consolation final. In the championship semifinals, Holy Family Catholic won the first two doubles matches and squeaked by Osakis with a 4-3 victory. In the second championship semifinal, The Blake School recorded a 6-1 win over. In the singles tournament, top-seeded Lainey Axell of The Blake School defeated teammate Arlina Shen 6-1, 6-2 in the final. This was the third consecutive runner-up showing for Shen, who was the No. 2 seed. She fell to teammate Libby Rickeman in both 2015 and Axell made the move from doubles to singles this year. She took top honors with Sophie Skallerud in The duo of sophomore Clare Palen and junior Natalie Allison claimed top honors in the doubles tournament. They defeated junior Audrey Delich and senior Madilyn Jankila of Eveleth-Gilbert 6-3, 7-5. Palen and Allison were the No. 2 seed this year and Delich and Jankila were the No. 4 seed. The defending champions from rebounded to defeat Wayzata 4-3 in the thirdplace match-up. In the consolation final, Elk River beat by a 4-3 margin. advanced to the championship after defeating Wayzata 7-0. In the second semi - final, St. Cloud Tech came from behind to upset 4-3.
