1 2012 ATHENA Awards April 12, 2012 Noon to 1:15pm The mission of ATHENA International is "to support, develop and honor women leaders; to inspire women to achieve their full potential; and to create balance in leadership worldwide." The Women's Connection and Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce present the ATHENA Awards program to elevate and honor women who are setting a gold standard in their business and community leadership, and who are helping to bring along the next generation of women leaders. Since 1982, more than 6,000 ATHENA Awards have been presented by ATHENA International in more than 500 communities in the United States, Canada, Russia, China, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom. During our 2012 ATHENA Award Event, we will recognize our deserving 2012 ATHENA honorees and will announce our 2012 ATHENA Award recipient. To register, go to or call (309) Quad Cities Chamber and Women's Connection Announce 2012 ATHENA Award Honorees Quad Cities - The Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce and Women's Connection today announced the 2012 ATHENA Awards Honorees, women within the eastern Iowa and western Illinois region excelling in their business or profession, making a significant difference in the community and empowering other women to be leaders. The 2012 ATHENA Awards, to be held April12, noon, at Jumer's Casino and Hotel, Rock Island, are presented by Missman, Inc. The 2012 Athena Honorees were selected based on the following criteria: Honoree demonstrates excellence, creativity and initiative in her business or profession Honoree provides valuable service by contributing time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community. Honoree actively assists women in realizing their full leadership potential. The 2012 honorees are as follows:

2 Diane Campbell, Secondary Director of Innovation and Instruction, Muscatine Community School District Director of Innovation and Instruction of the Muscatine Community School District since 2010, Diane Campbell's education career began as a Special Education Teacher for the Muscatine School District, eventually moving into Administration. She also served as a consultant for the Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency. In her role as Secondary Director, Campbell is responsible for developing innovative professional development that assists teachers in changing their approach to making learning more rigorous and relevant for 21 st century students. She works with administrators and teachers within the district to inspire, research and support educational practices. Campbell believes the way for individual improvement is through partnerships, so she commits significant time to the betterment of her community and the empowerment of women. She serves on boards for Muscatine Center for Social Action and the United Way of Muscatine and has previously served on the boards for the Muscatine Welfare Association, Muscatine Regional Empowerment and the Volunteers and Information. She assisted in the development of the Kids First Fund, a United Way activity that provides school supplies and financial support for participation in activities for students in need. In 1997, Campbell was awarded the Muscatine Excellence in Education Award. She was also named Iowa Assistant Principal of the Year in 2010, and she has been widely praised by Iowa's Department of Education for composing and implementing system staff development plans within the Muscatine district. A graduate of the University of Iowa, Campbell received two Masters Degrees in Education, from the University of Iowa and Western Illinois University. She and her husband, Mark, have three children. Carmen Darland, Executive Director, Quad City Arts Since 2008, Carmen Darland has served as the Executive Director of Quad City Arts, a six county non-profit arts organization. During that time she has revitalized the organization's approach to its mission and has fostered collaborations and relationships across the local art and business communities. In her role as Executive Director, Darland spearheads raising $1.7 million annually to be invested in the community for arts education, re-granted to other art entities and produce arts programming. The annual Festival of Trees is the largest fundraiser, which helps to fund art programs for Quad City Arts and the Quad City Region. Darland migrated to the non-profit arena after three decades of corporate experience leading marketing initiatives for banks and later the Quad City-based Heart of America Restaurants and Inns, which she helped grow to a regional operation in seven states. She recently served as the Interim Executive Director at the Figge Art Museum while holding her current position at Quad City Arts. Darland devotes countless hours to community by serving on committees for the Quad Cities First, Quad Cities Convention and Visitor's Bureau, Experience Quad Cities, Figge Art Museum, North Scott Educational Foundation and the Iowa Arts Council. She previously served on the boards of Davenport Convention & Visitors Bureau, Downtown Davenport Association, Goodwill of SE Iowa, Friends of Scott County Library System and DavenportOne. Darland graduated from the University of Iowa with a Liberal Arts Degree. She and her husband, Jack, have one child, Emily.

3 Kelli Grubbs, Owner, Victory Enterprises and VictoryStore.com, Inc A leader in her community and the corporate world, Kelli Grubbs, began her career as a partner at Stanley, Lande & Hunter, serving as an attorney focusing on real estate law and corporate and contract law, including international manufacturing clients. After nine years, Grubbs made a significant career change to achieve greater balance between her career and a growing family. Since 1997, Grubbs has served as co-founder and owner of Victory Enterprises, which is a comprehensive political corporate consulting and communications firm, and VictoryStore.com, an internet retail business that produces and distributes customized printed products. In her role, she is responsible for the financial and legal aspects of both companies, and oversees the production divisions of VictoryStore.com. The two companies employ 75 people with offices in five states. Grubbs also serves as a TV host for Mediacom Newsleaders, which spotlights individuals and groups in the Quad Cities community. Grubbs has served on the Davenport Levee Improvement Commission, the RiverVision Steering Committee, the RiverVision Bi-State Coordinating Committee, West Little League Board (player agent and coach), and Davenport Legacy Foundation. She currently serves on the Northwest Bank & Trust and the Quad Cities Chamber Boards of Directors and is co-chair of the Chamber's Business Growth Council, which oversees the Chamber's efforts to expand and retain local companies. At Walcott Intermediate and John F Kennedy Catholic schools, Grubbs has successfully coached local junior high Mock Trial teams to state appearances. She also serves as a parent-volunteer at Davenport Assumption High School, Davenport West High School and John F. Kennedy Catholic School. Grubbs received her Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor Degrees from the University of Iowa. Kelli and her husband, Steve, have four children. Gayle Roberts, President and Chief Operating Officer, Stanley Consultants With more than 30 years experience in the historically male-dominated fields of engineering and construction, Gayle Roberts is president and COO of Stanley Consultants in Muscatine, the first woman to lead the company in its 98 year history and the nation's only female president of an international engineering firm. Under her leadership, Stanley Consultants has remained profitable despite the downturn caused by the economic recession. Roberts has led this company which, throughout its history, has operated in all 50 United States in 102 countries. Additionally, Roberts is committed to actively improving our community and her industry. She serves on the boards of the Iowa State Chemical and Biological Engineering Advisory Council and the Iowa Council of Engineering Companies, and she is a member of the Society of American Military Engineers Senior Executive Group. A St.Ambrose University Board Trustee, Roberts also is a member of the University Of Iowa College Of Engineering Advisory Council, the Executive Committee of the Design Professionals Coalition and Rotary International. She is a former Board Member of the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In 2010, Roberts was recognized by the Society of Women Engineers as its recipient of the Upward Mobility Award.

4 Roberts has a Chemical Engineering Degree from Iowa State University and a Masters in Business Administration from St. Ambrose University. She is a licensed professional engineer in seven states and PuertoRico. She and her husband, Stan, have 5 children. Patricia Shouse, Director of Community Services, Trinity Regional Health System Since 2006, Pat Shouse has served as Director of Community Services of Trinity Regional Health System, a subsidiary of Iowa Health System, one of the top health care systems in the nation. In her role, Shouse is responsible for overseeing 600 volunteers, retail shops on three campuses and the Friends of Trinity organization that has over 395 members. Under Shouse's leadership, Trinity has implemented consolidation and cost saving measures, increased fundraising revenues and coordinated new community outreach programs. Shouse began her career at Franciscan Medical Center, serving as Director of Radiology Services. In 1986, she left her position at Franciscan and, with husband Mike, opened Pat McGuire's Irish-American Grill in Davenport. After 18 years in business, they sold their restaurant and Pat returned to the healthcare profession. Shouse dedicates a large amount of her time and energy to volunteer efforts in the community. She has been a volunteer fundraiser for Family Resources for 10 years, co-chairing and organizing the Family Resources DOVE (Domestic Violence Ended) women's golf tournament and "Fill the Truck event, raising over $200,000 in the past three years. She serves on the Board of Directors of John Deere Classic, Women's Connection and the Safe Haven for Animals Project. She is a former Board Member for Family Resources and the Holy Childhood Association for the Diocese of Davenport, and she formerly served on the Board of Trustees for Trinity Medical Center, Trinity Regional Health System and Trinity's School of Nursing and Allied Health. In 2010, Shouse was honored as the 2010 Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser by the Quad-City Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She also has received the QC Hearts of Gold award from the YWCA. Shouse graduated from the Franciscan Medical Center School of Radiologic Technology and is certified in Radiologic Technology. She lives in Davenport with her husband Mike and their two dogs. Sally Welvaert, Director of Operations and Sales, John Deere Classic For the past decade, Sally Welvaert has been recognized as one of the top leaders in the PGA Tour industry. During this time, Welvaert has grown and maintained the John Deere Classic as one of the most successful PGA Tour events in the country, bringing millions of dollars to the Quad City Region. In her role, Welvaert is responsible for transforming the golf course at TPC Deere Run into a small city for the tournament, hosting 156 PGA players, over 100,000 fans and thousands of corporate hospitality patrons per year. Sally oversees the overall operation of the tournament including sales of hospitality, sponsorships, advertising and exhibits, and working with more than 1,400 volunteers through 26 committees. Welvaert demonstrates creativity and innovation in her commitment to the community. She has been a volunteer for the Festival of Trees, Symphony in Bloom and the Quad Cities Chamber Silver Ball and Fourth of July events. She serves on the Gilda's Club Board of Directors and has previously served on the Board for the Illinois Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce. Welvaert is a committee member for the Trinity Health Foundation Golf Tournament, Gilda Club's Development and Marketing, Moline High School "Strive Program, CASI

5 Senior Gift Basket Fundraiser, Wilson Jr. High School, and Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce's AM Network. She is a former committee member for Skip-A-Long's Anniversary Celebration. In 1975, Welvaert was honored as the first Volunteer of the Year by the Illinois Quad City Chamber of Commerce. Welvaert attended Black Hawk College, and graduated while in the Travel Industry with a Certified Travel Consultant degree. She and her husband, Don, have two children and four grandchildren. The 2012 ATHENA Award Honorees will be honored at a luncheon event on April 12, Noon, at Jumer's Casino and Hotel, Rock Island. During the event, one ATHENA Recipient will be named from the field of six honorees. The event is presented by Missman Inc., and major sponsors are Integrity Integrated and Ruhl & Ruhl.
