2 Honors Accordion Program Session - PH Book Keyboard Accordion PH Book Introduction Welcome. You have come to the right place to start your accordion musical education. Palmer - Hughes Accordion Lesson Book will concentrate on learning enough music reading skills to push you onto Book where there are over 80 solos of all genres. The theory introduced will enhance your solo performance as well as build your playing technique. Each session is designed to build on the prior session. SOOOO acquiring the new knowledge and practical practice of each element is essential to your musical growth. Start a ring binder to place your Sessions in with a divider at the back so can then pull out the SOLO sheets and place them in the back as Repertoire you will have over 00 songs when we are done with PH Book! Shelia is a firm believers of knowledge and practice. Set aside 0 minutes at least or times a week. DO NOT OVER PRACTICE! There will be 5 steps to practicing that will be introduced as you proceed through this Book. To start NOW proper accordion position, proper hand position is the FIRST most important factor. This session is designed to teach piano keyboard accordion. Accordion Position. Putting Accordion on - keep bellows snapped and closed.. Straps your straps should be adjusted so that the accordion sits to the left a little. The keyboard should be vertical and directly under your right cheek.. Locate the Air Button Unsnap the top and bottom bellows. Use your thumb on the left hand and depress the air button and open your bellows to it s fullest. Then push the bellows back in. Allow for a downward drop when going out and a fanning motion while pushing back in.. Right Hand Place your thumb on its side on the Key for C then line up your nd through 5 th fingers on the adjacent keys. Keep a gentle curve to your fingers like a spider. Don t play flat fingered. Thumb and 5 th finger should line up with the other fingertips in the same alignment. 5. Right wrist and arm the accordion should be positioned so that when you place your right hand on the keyboard your wrist is unbent and your right elbow is in alignment with the wrist. 6. Left Hand Push your left hand through the bass strap far enough so that the left hand fingers can curve like your right hand onto the bass and chord rows. This should put the strap resting on the back of the palm not the wrist. 7. Left Wrist the bass strap should be snug enough so that when you pull the bellows you do not have to Hump your wrist.

3 Honors Accordion Program Session - PH Book Handling the Accordion and Case. Resting Position when the accordion is not being played sit it on the floor on it s left side or bass side. There are small feet for the accordion to rest on. Never put it on a chair or table. It can fall over or off.. Lifting the Accordion pull the straps over the keyboard and lift it like a purse. The bellows should always be closed with the snaps when not being played and when moving it.. Putting Accordion on place accordion on your lap with the bass section on your lap, then turn it vertical and put the straps on. Some players need or like to use a back strap this helps keep the straps on your shoulders especially when you are standing to play.. Taking Accordion Off turn the accordion in your lap to where the bass section is down. Pull the straps over the keyboard and lift accordion then sit it on the floor. 5. Putting accordion into the case. If you are using a hard shell case, tip the open case so that you can lift the accordion like a purse and sit it bass down into the case. Then wrap the straps over the keyboard and close the case. If you are using a gig bag, unzip the top and lift the accordion like a purse and drop it into the case. 6. Your Music is you have a small folder this can be placed on the keyboard or behind the accordion in the gig bag or case. If the case won t close don t put the music in your case. Accordion care. Do not leave the accordion in a hot car. Treat it like it is a box of crayons that melt easy in the heat.. Keep the accordion in a climate controlled environment. When transporting the accordion do not lay the case on the back or lid. Securely stand it on its back hinges and don t allow it to fall over. (Seatbelt can be used). Do not put anything in the case with the accordion except a small amount of sheet music. 5. Wash hands before playing the oils from your hands can discolor the keys. 6. Keep the accordion in the case when not in use. Do not allow dust to accumulate - wipe with a soft dry rag. Each section will be called a SESSION. It might take you ALL week or even several weeks to complete a session. Don t proceed to the next session until you are REALLY COMFORTABLE with the current session. The music is in you not your accordion
