5 Seventh hords By stacking a rd on top of a triad, you create a seventh chord. There are five common seventh chords: dominant seventh, minor seventh, major seventh, diminished seventh, and the minor seventh flat five. All seventh chords consist of a triad with the addition of the 7th. Dominant Seventh (7) To create a dominant seventh chord, add a minor rd aove the th of a major triad ( E G B ). The 7th of this chord is three half steps aove the th. Here is a dominant seventh chord: 7 R E G R B 7 Minor Seventh (m7) To create a minor seventh chord, add a minor rd aove the th of a minor triad ( E G B ).
