Go within your heart to feel connected with your loved one. ASK. What do you want for me to experience this coming year? 2014 In this heart draw a picture of what your loved one wants for you.

2 Hi Kids! It s back-to-school time! I hope you had a great summer. It s fun to catch up with your friends again! Yet you might discover one of your friends feels dragged down because of a pet or relative who died over the summer. Kids Grief Relief 2012 If so, start your school year by practicing Compassion. 4 Hi Kids! One magical way to help yourself when you feel dragged-down, is to change what you re thinking. 1. Catch yourself when you have dragged-down thoughts like: Nothing feels right anymore. I can t figure out what to do Decide to think something else. I like thinking about all the things Darvy liked about me. Darvy said I was a good listener. He told me I was fun to be with. He even said I was the cutest dragonfly he ever saw! I feel good when I think those thoughts. Think about what your special loved one really liked about you. Write those thoughts in the clouds below. 5 Hi Kids! Do you have a friend or relative who is grieving over the death of a loved one? You can practice COMPASSION for them! Compassion comes from your loving heart. It s a warm feeling of understanding that someone is hurting. You show compassion when you take the time to listen to someone tell about their hurt- without thinking that there s something wrong. Just listening with a loving heart- helps! In the frame to the right, draw a picture of yourself with someone who could use some COMPASSION. Then draw a heart around the two of you! 2012 Kids Grief Relief

6 Hi Kids! Here s a picture of my good friend, Christina. She is holding a jar with the ashes of her best dog-friend Emrys. She chose to cremate him after he died. Do you know what it means to be cremated? When a person or pet dies, the body can be turned into ashes. No one feels any pain. The people who loved the pet or person can keep the ashes. Sometimes people choose to sprinkle the ashes in special places. Christina did. If you want to know more about Christina and Emrys, read For the Love of Emrys. Here s a beautiful jar for you to decorate. You can pretend it s Christina s jar of Emrys ashes, or you can pretend it s a jar with the ashes of someone else who was cremated. 2012KidsGriefRelief

7 It s Okay To Have A Dragged-Down-Day! Hi Kids! Even though it s been weeks, months, or even years since you lost a loved one (person or pet) you might have a dragged-down-day when you feel really sad and upset, and even cry a lot. That s normal! Missing someone you love is part of life. Draw a picture of your Dragged-Down self in this box below. You will feel better again. Your Inner Power of Love will remind you how wonderful you are, and encourage you to think loving thoughts about your life! 2012KidsGriefRelief You have lots and lots of days to feel like you re flying!

8 Hi Kids! Looks like it s holiday time for many of you earthlings. Yet, you might be feeling sad. Are you missing a loved one who has died so you can t spend the holidays with them? In the large heart below, write down the names of all the people and pets who you will be spending time with this holiday season. In the smaller heart, write down the name of your special one who died. You have lots of LOVE to share this holiday season with all the people you listed in the large heart! And you still share LOVE with your special one. Not in the same way, of course. Remember: Inside your heart will always be a special place for your loved one. Have a happy holiday!

10 Hi Kids! Here s an idea if you re feeling upset and sad about the death of your special loved one. You might be thinking: I feel very sad right now. I wish never died. NOW- take a few, slow deep breaths...and a few more... The Magic in breathing is that as you think about your breath, you can clear some of your emotions, like sadness and worry. TRY IT! NEXT- Pretend this is a mirror. Call it your I Am Mirror. I am Say something wonderful about yourself by speaking aloud, saying I am into the mirror. You will feel better! 2012Kids GriefRelief

12 Hi kids! Today I m thinking about my best friend, Darvy the earth dragonfly. He suddenly died one day while we were playing together. I thought I d share these thoughts with you... I wonder what other adventures we could have had together. I try to remember that he is happy in dragonfly heaven. I understand why he died, though I don t like it. I want to always remember how he made me laugh. I learned a lot about myself after he died. I am a mystical, magical dragonfly who misses my best friend so much! What are you thinking? 13 Hi Kids! Doesn t it feel good to honor a loved one who has died like bringing flowers to their grave site or creating a special rememberance? Don t forget to honor yourself when you r grieving. It s just as important! Here s how I honor myself: I keep my thoughts positive because positive, loving thoughts keep me flying! She was feeling grateful for all the fun times she had with him. When you feel grateful, your heart is open. An open heart is a loving heart, and love always feels better. Although lots of things will change as you grow up (even you), the one thing that won t change is the love in your heart. It will be in you forever! It s your greatest strength!
