1 YOUTUBE BOOTCAMP Audio 6 Lewis Howes Sean Malarkey Today we re talking about YouTube and the power of YouTube and how to maximize YouTube and how to get traffic to your site using YouTube; how to building your brand using YouTube, and everything else you need to know about it that s going to benefit you, your brand, and your business. First I want to start off by talking a little bit about the power of YouTube briefly and then we ll go into some of the technical stuff but really YouTube is a huge site. It s owned by Google. A lot of you guys know that. And people are watching video as opposed to reading content they re watching content. So it s really going to help you and it s to your advantage to start using video and especially YouTube just to start building up content for your brand and for your site. I heard the other day Lewis that there s literally 24 hours of video now being uploaded to YouTube every minute. So it s growing like crazy and it s funny to think of how fast it s growing. I can remember five years ago when I had my first daughter and we were wanting to send videos to my wife s family in Argentina to show her. And there was no way to do it then and literally when you think about it, it s grown to a billion dollar company and I think one of the top five most visited websites anymore and the second-biggest search engine. I just want to say there s a couple different ways you can create video before we get started. This one is just a video I did with my flip camera. I just had a friend hold the flip while I talked for a couple minutes or 47 seconds. And then there s another type of video where you can just do a screen capture of your site. So with this one right here, you can see this is a screen capture of LinkedIn and what I do for that is I either use Screen Flow or Jing and Jing is the free thing that you can download. There s a paid version but there s a free version. This is something I use for a lot of my videos now that allows you to capture up to five minute video clips at a time and share them with people and either upload them on YouTube or share them through friends with a custom link. It s pretty cool. 1

2 We ll get into that later but there s some other ones out there. So what Lewis is showing you here is he shot a couple with just either a flip cam or a digital cameras using Jing to record his screen and uploading it. So let s just go ahead and get right into creating content and how easy and really simple it is. My first example is for my real estate company and here s the goal you guys: With any kind of video that you re doing, you don t want to make it so difficult that you don t do it. In other words, you don t want to be too concerned about making a huge production out of it. Ninety-nine percent of the videos on YouTube are shot with regular digital cameras or a recording of the screen so you don t need to worry about creating some massively beautiful presentation through your video. But just focus on getting some video up there because the results that come from having videos on YouTube are phenomenal. The first obvious result is that it shows up on Google pretty high for the key words that are shown within the video. We ll talk a little bit too about how to get your videos keyword rich so they do show up right away in Google and some of these can show up as quick as five minutes and on the first page and some of the top results. But outside of that obvious benefit is also having the link on your site which we ll show you here in a minute, will boost your site s page rank within Google which pushes then your website up higher. So the more videos you have, the more links it creates, and the more search engine friendly these videos end up becoming and the better off you are so the faster you can create this content and get it up, the better. It s really pretty simple and pretty easy to do and it also gives you another medium to use on your blog which helps people on your blog or on your website learn a little bit more about you. What Sean was talking about is driving traffic to your website and I just want to put in really quick before we get into the other stuff that every time you upload your video to YouTube or to any other video sharing site, you want to put your link first because that s the first thing people are going to see when they go to your YouTube video. [Inaudible] They re going to read more of a description here. Don t put it at the end of your description. You can do it at the end as well but make sure you put it first here because here it always shows you a couple sentences or a couple lines and then you have to click more info to see the rest of it. So make sure that you automatically put your link with the http first because this is going to drive traffic back to your site for people and it s going to be indexed on Google by having a new video and link there every time. So that s just something to consider first, every time you do it. And 2

3 again, some strategy also before we get into some of the technical stuff is that you want to be consistent with video. I know Sean did over 100 videos with his real estate business. I think I ve got 70 or something like that. But the more consistent you are and if you could one a month or one a week; the more consistent you are, it s just going to be spread all around the web. It s basically like having your own blog. If you ve got a couple hundred videos, that s like two or three hundred blog entries with a link back to your site and people are just going to find them. They re going to be searched on Google and people are going to find them so the more you do; a lot of mine are 45 seconds to a minute and a half and they re just really quick. But the more they re just uploaded and out there, the more my site builds and my brand builds or anyone s brand builds. The more traffic you drive. So it s just a matter of being consistent. A lot of people are scared to do it and in this video right here, I m talking about how my throat is sore from a conference but I just did it really quick and I m not looking professional, I ve got a t-shirt on, but its content. It s 289 views; I just posted this a week or a week and a half ago and it s almost got 300 views and I haven t really promoted it. I just put it up on my website. And it s just going to build over time and once people watch one video, they re going to watch another video, and they re going to see more of what you re about so just make sure you stay consistent with it if you re going to start using video because it s really beneficial. It s been helpful for me. People recognize you better in person, and it really connects with individuals. One more thing to add to being consistent with it: The more subscribers you have to your channel, the more views you re going to get and every time you post a new video, they get an if they have the settings which 99% of the people with YouTube do have turned on will get an that says Lewis Howes just posted a new video. We ll show you how to build your subscription base later but anyway let s get right into. Do you want to go through uploading the video and all the different tips and tricks that we ve learned with that? I ve got an older video that I m going to re-upload as a demonstration. Before we get into that, there s some auto-share options. I really don t recommend turning those on because those are going to automatically feed. Your Google Reader is fine if people are reading your Google stuff 3

4 but the Facebook and Twitter, it s going to automatically feed those there and usually if you re creating a video and you want it to automatically feed there, great; but I would rather have the control of posting what exactly it s going to say because I think it just sends the title and the link. But I would rather go through and do it. It says I ve uploaded a video to YouTube in the title. Yeah so I d rather just have the title and a link or put it in my blog and then send the whole blog post across. So it s your call if you want to do that but we don t have those kinds of goods so. So when you click on a file, I just dragged a file that s a video from my desktop. You want to give it a different title. It s going to give you the title initially for what the file name is. And this is just a quick testimonial which I already have uploaded on YouTube. I have a guy who did a video recommendation for me but I m just going to title it Jim Cokoul Testimonial for Lewis Howes. One thing that you could have done here is if you guys are seeing the file name here that s uploaded there, that s a great way to rank higher within YouTube. In fact, if you want to cancel and re-do it. Go ahead and hit that. Before you upload it, rename it to whatever keyword you want to show up and that helps push it up higher in the keyword search. So here s the video right here. Just click on it and rename it. So I could just say so I m adding keyword LinkedIn, my name, his name, and we ll add it in there and see how this looks then. So now it s got Jim Cokoul Testimony on LinkedIn for Lewis Howes so when someone types in Lewis Howes or LinkedIn or J Cokoul, it will pop up with a video image. That s a little trick that a lot of people forget about. And honestly I d forget and half the time a lot of times I have to go back and re-do it but that s a great tip that not many people know about. This is the first thing you want to do on every one of these is the http and then the rest of my site after that. And then I go into the description and just say Jim Cokoul did a short video testimonial ; you can say whatever you want here. Focus on this you guys: Think about what keywords you want people to find this. So in other words, if they re going to be on Google or on YouTube searching, make sure you title your title heavy with those 4

5 keywords that they re going to be looking for. And then in the description, use them over and over as many times as you can if they make sense. So for this example, if Lewis wanted to use the keywords Jim Cokoul, LinkedIn, you don t want to write that five times over and over in your description but you could put Jim Cokoul is a big fan of LinkedIn. Here s a testimonial he did for me after looking at one of my LinkedIn products. If you haven t connected with Jim on LinkedIn, you should do so. He s a great force. But think about how to use it and word it so it s a flow of the keywords within your wording actually makes sense and the more times you can put them in there it s just like the LinkedIn profile. The more you can put them in there, the higher you re going to show up in search results because you ve got those keywords. So you want to keep it to two to three keywords that are usually what people are looking for and then use those keywords over and over as many times as you can. And then also remember to put them Lewis was just going through the tags and put those tags in there as well. Just some other ways too; if you have a product or a service or a company that s location-based and the locality is important to your success, in your tags you can put things that are local to you. So for example, Lewis and I are here in Columbus. If we were trying to do something for a company here in Columbus, you might want to add Ohio State or Ohio State Buckeyes or any keywords that surround our city that people might be searching for on YouTube because they may stumble across your video and be interested in your site or service kind of in a spontaneous manner because they found it from searching that. And then other things with tags it doesn t help as much but if you put in things that are hot at the moment like during the election you could have used words like Obama for example as a keyword or a tag and that would have helped maybe get some extra views on it as well. And then there s the category section. For me, mostly my stuff is all sports related or social media and LinkedIn related. So if it s sports, I put in the sports section and if it s social media networking and other things related but it s usually education is what I like to put in too or how to but you can put in whatever it is related to you and your video. Definitely share your video with the world. You want your message to spread so everyone can view it so you just click save right here. I m actually not going to save this one. I m going to show a different one but I guess I ll save this and I ll delete it in a second. 5

6 But I m going to show you how to embed this really quickly on your own site. Right now it s going to give you this embed code right here. And instead of doing that, you can get more options by clicking on the video section. So click on my videos and it will still say that it s actually usually it says it s waiting to be finalized but this is a short video. It was a duplicate upload. So it will reject it because you ve already uploaded this video. I m going to delete this one and I m going to delete this one because this one was a shared one that got rejected. So basically let s just go to this one. It s my last one. But you can go right here and check on these options and click on the embed section right here. If you just want to send a link to people, you can click on the URL right there and then you just copy that and that s this link right up here in your browser up here. But if you want to go to the embed and put this in your blog, then you click on here. I like to take off included related videos. So this is automatically clicked but when this is clicked like this, this will automatically be embedded in your code here and when you put this in your blog, at the end of your video it will pop up all these other related videos. They may not be yours and they may be yours. But people that have the same type of keywords or other related videos. So other videos like these. So these aren t my videos but they re related and they ve got something that says sports careers. It s got something that s related to my video title up here. However, you re going to send traffic to other people by including this. They re going to leave your blog. They re going to leave your blog and go check out other people s videos. So you want to unclick that every time. The border doesn t really matter to me. I don t really like the border because it makes it look bulky so I take that off. And you can take this one off as well. Depending on what your site looks like, if it s got a certain color you could switch it to brand it that way. This is pretty basic stuff. I just keep it a similar one right here. And then however you want to make it; right now the automatic one is a 480 by 385 and that s usually what I keep mine at but sometimes I change it around. 6

7 You want to make sure you unclick this, keep it there, make it simple for yourself, and then click on this embed code right here, copy and paste it, and then take it over to your blog. I ll show you really quick how to upload it to your blog. This is one of my sites where I do my sports videos and you ll see I think I ve got that video right down here somewhere. So you put it on your blog. How do you embed it on your blog? So for those of you that have a blog, it s really simple how to make this show up and just on your site, click play, and there you go. So I ll show you how to upload it really quickly. So that makes it a nice looking player on your site. And again, it s really simple to do this. I ll just show you this last post where that video is. So here s the post. I m just going to click on it. What you re going to do is when you want to add it to your post; those of you who know blogging and those of you who don t know blogging; you re going to go to the HTML tab which is up here. You ll see a visual; if you don t want to put the HTML tab in there, you want to put it in the HTML section. So this is kind of the code behind what happens in the back end of everything. Down here is this exact code that I copied and pasted so initially I ll just put it in the blog post wherever I want it to be. If you want it to be at the top, you can just throw it up at the top. But you just copy and paste it. So I just copied this right here. And I ll put it right down here and it creates a space, and paste. That s the code how it looks like. And then I just go to visual and there should be two video players. So there s the second video player. This is the one I just posted. I do preview and it will show me that video. It should have two of them now which might look a little weird but that s okay for the description of this. There s the one and there s the second one. And then you ve got your video uploading your blog and you can go from there. And just so you know, if you want to put it in the exact spot, you can click on the visual tab here at the top and then place the cursor wherever you want it to be. So if you want it to be after this last paragraph here, you just hit return and switch it over to HTML and it s going to be in that exact spot. Here s another way you can just do it. Normally it switches over and maybe that s as far as it can but you can click on HTML, find the exact spot in the paragraph you want to put it in and then be done with it. 7

8 If you want to do a custom size, you can go in and if you see in the code in here, the width at 480 and the height at 385, you can change those parameters to anything you want. Yeah I can make it 400 x 350. You re not obligated to use the four or five defaults that YouTube has and most blogs are somewhere around 550 wide. So if you wanted to expand it, you would just go to those codes. There s two spots where you have it and you can change both of those spots to whatever settings you want. You ve got to do both. You ve got to make it exactly the same for the top one and the bottom one over here so there s going to be two different sections that have the exact same numbers as both of these. I do that a lot on mine to just make them a little bit bigger or a little bit smaller so the formatting in the blog, it looks pretty good. Let s go ahead and move back to YouTube and just go through some of the things. There s a pretty cool feature on YouTube called Insight and you typically have to get 400 or 500 views on it for it to work and your one videos, the Superman video, has enough to do it so I d love to see what the statistics on that show. If you go to the My Video section, you want to pull up the This is a great way to tell how effective your campaigns are and when people are logging on and logging off and look at that. I wish there was a way to zoom in. You ve got so many it s hard to see the results. But this shows you look down here at the bottom at this list. This is giving on a daily basis, you re still getting 120 hits on that every single day and you can click this up here and check the different defaults. Regional popularity; you can show this. I m sure it s all going to be U.S.; most of it is in the U.S. Most popular in these countries; but yeah it s pretty cool. And if you go back up to the top there is a point where go over here to discovery and this shows you where it s coming from: YouTube search is 72% of it. This gives you a pretty good idea of how people are finding this. Google search, 17%? 8

9 Yeah a percentage of the people are finding it from there. Embedded player people have embedded this on a blog. You can see on the bar graph up here how it s working if you click the [inaudible], it should. And let me show you a couple other things here. Let s go through all of them. This gives you a summary of all your views, what s getting the percentage of the total; the attention thing is the big one. I m trying to find that on here. They ve moved this around. The attention graph shows you how long people are watching it. And then there s also a section where it shows you when they drop off in the video. Go through each one. There s a setting somewhere in here and go to the Superman one and click on the Insight again. This was a good thing for me in particular. In our real estate properties, it was interesting; it showed people s attention span. There it is: Hot Spots. If you click that, it shows people s attention spans throughout the video. So if you look for example, it builds and then at whatever point, you can slide this cursor over and see what particular point it s dropping off. So for example, what was interesting to me was on our real estate stuff, you re above average on the whole thing Lewis which is really, really good. And you ve captured the audience s attention. See the red bar up there for the majority of the time. But you can maybe learn a lot about your videos and what you re doing and what you re saying and especially the time thing. You re under a minute here which is probably the reason why you re above average across the whole thing. Sure, because longer you will probably lose the attention of people. And that s just it. The point to make is three minutes or less three minutes is the absolutely longest you should ever make a video if you re trying to keep people s attention. If you have to go five minutes to get a point across or to show something, fair enough. But the shorter you can make it A good friend of ours I ll just show you an example of where longer videos are still okay. A good friend of mine, David [inaudible], from Rise from the Top does a video every day, five days a week. The videos are usually five or ten minutes and some are 15. It kind of just depends on how much of a point he s trying to get across but look how consistent he is. These are all videos every day. And he started this at the beginning of the year and I think he s got 50 videos now from the start of the year. He s done five a week. 9

10 And he s getting a lot of buzz, a lot of content, a lot of this is being searched on Google, and it s really just building up his brand by doing video after video after video and interviewing other people and sharing his own advice. He just got on TV this morning so this was posted this morning. So there s just a lot of things you can do to build your brand by doing videos. Again three minutes or less is probably the key for most people. Again, it depends on what you re trying to get across in your message. But 5, 10, 15 minutes is still good if you re adding amazing content and you need to people engaged. That s a good point. If you guys pay attention to this, we could probably watch this video and see maybe if there s a reason why there s a drop-off or why there s a rise in it. What was interesting in our real estate stuff was we saw the drop-off in general, but when we would hit the kitchens and the bathrooms of the house and we would film them, the rise would be the highest and we would always say people are more interested in the kitchens and the bathrooms. It was definitely true in the videos when we went back and watched it. But there s some great stuff to be learned from the hot spots and maybe people have seen that he s dancing for ten seconds and Then it starts to drop off a little bit. So it s a video of some guys dancing and what s interesting is I wonder what happens at this one point here if there s anything we can see that would make you think it s why it went back up. Maybe you coming at the screen. I don t see anything in particular but for sure for us when we look at the real estate side of things, we could see a huge spike in that attention. I think a lot of people say they re going to move to the end and see what happens so they just fast forward to the end probably and they re just watching it from there. Or this could be just a percentage of people that are going to drop off but once you get to there, that percentage has made it that far. But there s some good stuff to be learned from that; just look at it from your own perspective and how you re using it and maybe see if you can learn something from that. For us with the real estate we noticed every single time kitchens and bathrooms did it. 10

11 Alright do you want to go back to the uploading? There are some features here too that if you don t have audio, you don t need audio and don t have the ability to mix in a song, you can do this real, real easy if you go to the Audio Swap, they have a ton of different settings on here of different artists you can click on. They have recommended tracks and the time frames don t have to match but you can click on anything you want. You don t want obviously a video that s 40 seconds of audio with a longer video so pay attention to that. But there s some decent stuff in here and there would be times where for example, I would record stuff that I wasn t happy with the audio but didn t have time to go back out and reshoot the video. Or I just want jazz in the background. Or you could say I m feeling lucky and have YouTube choose for you and just click on this and they pick a song for you and put it in the back. I did that one time and it kind of had some Halloween spooky music which wasn t too good for me. But you can put any type of music on here. It s pretty nice, for sure. Do you want to go and go ahead to the Annotation section. This is something I started to use awhile ago. It s pretty cool. He was doing this an hour ago. It s broken right now but See if I can do this on the other page. We can do it from here as well. So what I can do is I can click on this little button it still says it s down. But basically what we ll try to do is see if it ll pop up really quick. Basically what it will let you do is let you create a little thing where you can create your own little text box and put it anywhere you want on the video, you can have it pop up at any time, you can have text in there. You can say, Follow me on Check out SportsNetworker.com. Put your link, you can put it up here on the top right, right where this box is right here. You can put it up here in the top right with a little arrow that says subscribe to my videos so that can be up in the top right the whole time just telling people to subscribe and they click over here and subscribe to your video to the right. But it s a great little thing that they ve added a little while back; it s been around for six months or so. It allows you just to add text to your video if it still says it s not there but let s see if it ll let me do it. It lets you add 11

12 text right here, you type in the text, you can make it bigger by expanding this, you can make it longer; you can do whatever you want. You can put different color in there if you want to and you can move it all around the video and do it that way. You can also link to another YouTube video. You can t link to your own blog or your own website. You can link to anything within YouTube. But you can put a link on there and it ll click on that and it ll go to your video. So if you have Part I and Part II or you ve gone back and added a video that s relevant to another video. It s a great idea to keep their attention as long as possible which just adds to your credibility and trust and makes it more likely so if you have another video that s relevant, it s a good idea to do that as well. This is another important one. This is the default so make sure you don t ever change this. Always leave it on yes. There s been times where I ve gone to watch videos on my phone and it doesn t work. Yeah you want people to watch them on their phones as well. People are searching on YouTube especially on I phones; YouTube is one of the main applications and people are searching on YouTube on their I phone all the time and you want to make sure this is clicked on yes. I found out that my Superman dancing one wasn t on there. I put a link out to people on Twitter a few days ago because someone saw it and couldn t believe how funny it was and someone said they couldn t watch it on their phone and to make sure I went to my Syndication thing and click on the yes section to make it available on mobile. I think I published that in 2007 or 2008 and then I guess the default was no or they didn t even have it. So I had to go back and change it. But then they could watch it on their phone. So it was another view I was able to get. Probably a lot of people are searching for it; they like it that much. Here s something I always do: When you go back to the edit, click on the video and just click on the edit. This page is going to come up. You can change what you want it to look like. I think initially I had it on this way. 12

13 Automatically they pick one for you which your video will show up and the first thing people see is this. I think it was this one where my eyes were closed. So make sure you go and figure out which face you want it to be, which angle you want it to be and click on that specific one. It says up here it will take up to six hours for your image to be updated. But this is the first thing people will see as the first image. You don t want a picture of you with your eyes closed or with a weird O face or something. You want to make sure you look somewhat presentable so people are more inclined to click on it. First impressions are the most important thing so make sure you have something that looks decent. And just to add to that, if it s not a shot of you or of a person, look for the one that is the most eye-catching. So if you re moving the camera around and maybe there was certain lighting or certain colors; obviously the more attractive the image is going to be, the better off you ll be. Here s a location thing too. People do search for videos by location so this is a pretty cool little feature. I don t think it s that big of a deal but you can move it around and add that. This was in Texas a week ago so I just moved it to Texas. But I never really use this but you can definitely add it in there if you like. These are all the defaults are pretty much what we recommend is what Lewis was leaving on there; the video responses allow people to post comments automatically, ratings, and embedding. And speaking of video responses, let s go ahead and talk about how you can increase video responses. So for example, this video is Sports Professionals Networking. Type that in there and see if any other videos come up high in that result. This is a great way if somebody has a lot of hits on their video to increase your viewership so yours is showing up at the top. Try Sports Networking. Here s National Institute of Sports Professionals, Indian Sports Professionals. You want to find something obviously that s relevant. Careers in sports. It s not getting enough views at 20 views; that particular one. How about just put networking at the top or professional networking. There we go. How to network, 55,000 views and that s a couple years old. 13

14 The person has to allow video responses in order for this to happen but if you look through a few of these, often times you can get a lot of traffic back to your site. Click on the post a video response and we ll see if she s enabled it on this particular one. Okay yeah you can actually do it. So you can choose a video from here. Pick the one that we have and see if it will accept it. Sometimes people have this setting enabled so it will automatically go to it. This one here, you can see in the settings it has to be approved by the video owner. So she may or may not ever approve but often times they either have it set to go right away or they will approve it and if it s a video that gets a lot of hits, it s a great way to drive yours up because video responses show up right underneath the video and people will click on, if they re interested in a certain topic and especially if they see one that looks pretty good. It ll show up down here. Go to one or two more to see if there s any that will allow it. I think I have some on mine. These are people trying to hijack Lewis traffic which works pretty well and that s why they do it. So here s a video response. It s the first thing people see so I can remove that if I want to which I ll leave for now. And you can see the comments. They re pretty funny actually. But that s the first thing people see when they come down here. They re going to see a little video and they ll automatically come down here. It s a good way. I know a lot of people that do that and get some traffic from that. Captions and subtitles is one other topic we can talk about. If you click down here, you have the ability and this is in the editing page as well but on Lewis home page it s showing up there. Often times it will give you transcription you can add there. Download? Go back, I m sorry. You don t have to download. You can just check that. So it s already showing up there so you could download that to view it or you could add a new caption or transcription. This is for deaf people. There s actually a lot. There s a big audience of people that read these so 14

15 this is an actual copy of a transcription so you d want to make sure it s in line. Yeah some of it is a little messed up because it doesn t pick up exactly what I say, but it tells you the time when I say something. And these are the actual keywords so this is a good tip that a lot of people don t know. If you re talking and you want your video to rank high on keywords, Google is transcribing these and as you can see here, they know what keywords you re talking about, so the more you mention the keywords Let s see, how often did you say Sports Networking or the word sports in there? It might be a relevant word. See they misspelled something. Right here I say executives but they put tickets there so I guess you have to speak clearly enough for them to understand it and be able to transcribe it. I m actually glad we pulled this up. Scroll down a little bit more and see if there s more. Just know that. If you re talking or you have audio in there, it is being transcribed and that also helps show up in the keywords in the searches. I think a lot of people don t know that. They definitely don t know that and this wasn t even available until just recently but they ve been doing it for a long time and it s been showing up in the results. So go ahead and click that and it ll just pop up a download button. And choose a file? Right here it says captions and subtitles help viewers with hearing disabilities. You could edit that file that you just downloaded and make it correct and then upload it back up. So if somebody was watching it really that comes into play I guess if you re getting a lot of hits. But also I don t know if that s the file that they re relying on for the keyword searches. So you want to make sure it s doing that. It s just another probably not that important but I guess the most important thing in showing that is just to make sure that you re adding keywords when you speak and saying them as many times as you can and making it relevant. It still isn t working but you can see it s pretty easy to go through. It ll show you how to do it right here. You can select any of the annotation 15

16 options below, click on these options here, you can drag them, you can type in keywords and things like that, and you just click publish and it saves it. You can put it for a different timeline so if you want it to go through just the first ten seconds, you can make it go for the first ten seconds. It s pretty cool. It s really cool. Or you could show it for the whole time or you can do multiple annotations so you can put it on the beginning and on the end. And use those for a call to action. Tell people to go subscribe or check out your website or call now to order or whatever you want to use it for. But definitely use it for a call to action because they do work and they work pretty well. I guess just moving on, let s show a couple of the sites that we use. I ll just say really quick notice how to rank higher is by first the title of the video; you want to make sure the title has the keywords you want and then the body of the video or the description. I ve got sports conferences and I ve got these keywords throughout and plus I ve got my hyperlinks in there. Then the raw file name says sports conferences. These are all going to help me. Then the tags says sports conference, sports association probably; so you want to make sure you have the title, the body, the raw file, and then the tags; they all have the keywords that you want for people when they re searching for those keywords. You want those in there. Go to Google and search sports networking or sports professionals and see if you ve gotten those spots because you ve done a pretty job on that. Do Sports Professionals Networking. There you are. That s one for you. That result is pretty good. See if you re on the bottom of that one again. Here s mine right here actually. This is that article right here, Sports etworking. That was on a blog. That s my blog. So click on that and it ll take you back to my site; this one is just a link back to my site just by having the keywords in there as well. It helps me out. 16

17 If you go back to the other one just to show you guys; click on there and type in rent to own or lease option house or even Columbus. Look at that right there: There s two videos that show up there. This is our website right here, greekcityrealestate.com. We never showed up high before we started using YouTube and I could not ever we did everything we could to get up. We were on the front page but usually down at the bottom. If you just search some other keywords, you ll see all the different videos that show up and we had so much traffic coming from Google on the YouTube page. It was incredible. So if you go up here and just search lease option home, you ll probably see two different videos that show up and I use different keywords every time we uploaded it. Yeah there s two other ones that showed up. So then you could do rent to own and get the same results but we It s just a matter of being consistent and posting different options up there and what you think [inaudible] keywords what people are searching for. For example, if someone just typed in lease option Columbus, the results are good but when you start to get specific, they get more and more so I think the users were using the different long tail keywords. This was just posted a week ago so it just kind of depends on the traffic and things like that, that you re getting but for sure. And different ways to drive up; we talked about if you want to go through on subscribing, if you find people that are like-minded or relevant to you, subscribe to their channels because you end up showing up on their channel as a subscriber. And it s a great way. I ve seen people go in and subscribe to 50 different people in their niche or their industry and get like numbers of people coming back and the subscribers are really everything because the more people you have that follow you, every time you post a video, they re the ones that immediately come back and watch it. They comment. They just kind of help spread the word. So you can go onto other people s different things so for example, if you click here and click on a related one, these are showing up as related. You can click here and go through and subscribe to this channel by clicking here and this is the National Institute of Professionals and then you would show up as a subscriber. 17

18 Right there so when people come they re going to ask who is Lewis Howes and they re going to come back to your channel. It s a great way and also it ll show on here on Lewis channel that he subscribed it s just a great way to drive it viral. That s another way you can go through and ask for friends so go back here. Go into your channel list and let s talk about what shows up on your channel as well because that s a good way to drive that up and I forgot that on here. So on your channel, there s an about me section and you can really make that as long as you want and add in your different sites and I don t know they used to have it and they took it off but if you check and see if it allows it to hyperlink when you post a description in your about me so you can add in your other sites and your blogs. This used to work and then they took it off and I m not sure if it s working but want to do a test on it. Even if not, it s a great way to do it. People will do searches looking for interesting people and by filling this stuff out is a great way to do it. There it did do it. So you can list out all your sites as well. So it s a great idea if you have multiple websites or different things and opportunities you want to share with people. Put as many in there as you can. Put your Facebook, put your LinkedIn, put your Twitter; put them in there to show up. Just moving on; another thing too by putting these on your blogs and sharing your blogs out through social media, it s a great way to drive them up and the more views that your videos get, typically it helps push them up the wall when people search for things. What s a good idea is if you re using and advertising or talking about your business or service or your blog anywhere else, always put a link to your blog or YouTube, we used to just put links to the video if you were describing the property on a Craig s List description, here s a link to the video to watch it. And that would drive the hits up fast which if somebody s coming to a video to watch it, then if they decide they like something then they can click on your blog or subscribe to your service so they can learn more about you because that have that access from the more tab that shows up or the description that shows up. And do you want to get into some other options you can go through in the settings and edit your channel and how important these are depends on your brand or what you want to do. I think Lewis has set his all to a white default but there s some custom ways you can upload it just like a custom 18

19 background for Twitter. If you click on the themes and settings tab at the top and you ll see some of the different options for customizing your channel. You can change the whole thing around and you have yours set on the gray which I think is a pretty clean look and keeps the people focused on your content. Click on the show advanced options. There s some more there and you can see some of the different examples. You can change your background color with these. If you click the color box, it ll pop up a color-picker so you can pick one and see what kind of impact that has. Or if you know a custom color, you can type it in there and you can find those on Google searching for color charts. The other thing is you can upload a custom background image so the one thing to pay attention to here is the size of the file: 256kb is the max so make sure it s that big. There s all kinds of tutorials and in fact, you can find good tutorials on YouTube on how to make a It s kind of like your Twitter background. Exactly. How to make a custom background and they re good for branding and you should probably do one for both of ours that match our Twitter ones. A lot of musicians have good ones. For sure and actually I just saw Justin Beaver is a kid who s logging up right now. This is him right here. He s got an amazing background if we can see it. We should go on him YouTube channel. He s got one somewhere. But a lot of different musicians and personalities have their own sites. Just something to consider; I don t really think it s that necessary to start off with but if you re going to start branding your different Twitter background and everything else, then you might want to do it in the future. Type in the short sale riches, Lewis. I think that one s Nathan s and that s pretty good; to get an example. Click this right here. This is pretty cool. Just like a Twitter background; he s probably got the same one on Twitter. But he s made a custom image and uploaded it. It s probably a good idea to have those and we should probably go in and edit ours just so there s some congruency between all of the branding and theming. 19

20 So people find it the same; go back to the settings and there s a few more things I wanted to point out there. You can title your channel so you can put Lewis Howes YouTube Channel which would help the search results and help it show up. You can be a publisher, director, musician, and maybe even get YouTube and get in the director list and it gives you a special icon that s pretty good. Save changes down here at the bottom and I think if you go click on modules and through videos and playlists, on modules this is going to show what shows up on your page so if you wanted or didn t want certain things to show up, you could put that on there. Most of the stuff you have selected adds credibility. There s nothing really did you join any groups on YouTube. That s one way to do it. So here s the stuff that Lewis has got here uploaded videos, favorites. You might want to unselect your favorites at the top. You could but that s just showing people what you like. Maybe it drives traffic away from you so that s probably a good idea. This is another interesting click that [inaudible] unit, instead of showing your home player on the home screen; it shows it differently and would show a grid of all your videos instead of your most recent. Featured content set probably keep it on. Featured video this is going to be whatever shows up on your channel. So if you have a welcome video that says hey guys, thanks for checking out my YouTube channel, here s some things you want to check out. Or you could just have the most recent one. And you have the option there to auto play the featured video which I think is a good idea because normally when you click on auto play so it s kind of normal on YouTube when you re surfing around. So it s a good idea. Show the grid to show people how that looks to give them a different idea if they don t want to go with that. So this is how your channel would appear which there s two different ways you could do it so I guess that s one way. So you ve got all these videos or the most recent one which in my opinion, I would want to show the most recent one first. Yeah I think it s a better look for sure. It just kind of depends on what you re trying to do. And then it s going to play automatically and that s pretty much it for the YouTube. 20

21 We ll take some questions and answers if you have any. Go to Jing; it s This is a great free tool. I ve paid $15 a year and it gives you the ability to send it right to YouTube with that. We ll just show you what he s talking about. This is what happens when you download it. When you download it, it gives you a little option to click on a different section of your site. So you can do this or you can capture the whole page or Here s how it looks when you download it. It s got this little verse that you can actually click on and move all around. It took me awhile to figure that out. It s pretty cool because you can go here. If I just wanted a certain area of the site, I could click [audio-cut-out] optimized for YouTube or for uploading it, capture this and anything that moves in there would be captured; this little section. Record it, capture an image, capture video, and then you can upload it to YouTube. It s pretty cool. So it s just another option you can do where you can capture your screen and go from there. Another one is ScreenToaster.com so if you want to check that out, it s another pretty cool free tool. People like that one versus Jing, a lot and $15 a year is what you have to pay. In the free version you can record it and there s a link you can share. But with paying the $15, as soon as you re done recording it gives you an option to push it right to your YouTube channel. So if you re doing something, it s a great way to create quick videos and upload to your channel pretty quick so if you have something that s web-related or on the website. Or you could show a slide presentation, Power Point, and flip through it while you re recording it and then throw that up. It s another great way to do it. So this is Screen Toaster. This one doesn t have a download or anything. You can just click this button and it starts recording. This is a great one if you re not on your computer and you want to record something real quick; you can do it. And then bear with it while it loads up here. They get the idea. I think it s going to mess us up. 21

22 Alright. That s another great one and another one really didn t talk about was just recording yourself like you did there with your webcam on your actual computer. A lot of people do that and they record Carrie Wilkerson, a friend of ours, does that all the time. She records daily or every other day so it s an easy way to throw up content. She just records herself talking into the camera. I guess it just depends on your niche or your industry or whatever you re trying to accomplish. So in any case. We ll wrap it up and that will be the end of the YouTube Marketing Module. 22
