10 Summary Some of the figures for data not received could be due to new volunteers who have not yet provided their data. Gender Historically, has had a predominantly female volunteer workforce. This does not reflect the census or the gender of our service users. The charity has carried out positive action initiatives to recruit more male volunteers into the organisation. As a result there has been an increase of 3%. This is a positive step and more positive action initiatives will continue to take place. Increasing the number of male volunteers would also help the organisation to be more reflective of the census. Age The data shows that has a significant number of younger volunteers, ie 24.8% year olds (24.8%) and 17.37% year olds (17.37%) in April In addition, around 25% of our volunteers were aged in both 2015 and Historically was profiled as an organisation that had a significant number of older volunteers and this has now changed - the number of older volunteers pre 2015 has decreased. Disability It is difficult to compare disability directly to the census data. The census has recorded that 9.4% of the population have a health problem or disability, which is broken down into as limited a little (9.4%) and limited a lot (8.5%). The April 2016 data shows that 10.14% of volunteers have declared they are disabled and more volunteers have declared if they are disabled over the recorded period (April 2015 to April 2016). Providing the data allows the organisation to implement any reasonable adjustments if required. Ethnicity 10

11 In April 2016, 20.25% of volunteers were from the black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) community (this includes all ethnicities except white British and white other); in April 2015 this was at 17.95%. This is significantly higher than the 2011 census (14%) which demonstrates that positively recruits volunteers from minority ethnic communities. Sexual orientation Of the volunteers who responded regarding sexual orientation, in April %, and in April %, declared they are from the lesbian, gay, bisexual (LGB) community, which is lower than Stonewall s estimate of 6% of the UK population being LGB (this is the best benchmark in absence of census data 6%). s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) network is carrying out several initiatives to support and increase declaration rates. Religion Of the volunteers who have declared their religion, the results align to the census data with the exception of no religion and Muslim which is higher than the census by 6.19% and 4.8% respectively. 11
