2 You want to participate on social media because marketing experts advise that it's a great way to engage and connect with your audience, reinforce your brand, and build good will and trust. But for some, knowing what to say can be a struggle. I developed this Cheat Sheet to help my clients with sharing the most important element of their social media message: THEM. You needn't use any of these exactly -- use them to get inspired to be yourself! 1. Wish people a good day: good morning, good afternoon, good evening. Put a twist on it: "It's a wonderful cool morning dear fans. Whatcha got cooking today?" (Say it the way YOU talk.) 2. Say what you're doing. "Just finished a BIG project, and feeling great about that. What are you up to?" 3. Ask a question. What's your favorite (online tool, smart phone, morning drink). People love to tell you stuff! "What's happening in your neck of the woods..." 4. Ask HOW to do something. "Help, I'm stuck. Where's your favorite place to." (Get images for blog posts, get WordPress help, create online graphics, etc.) 5. Post an image. Find a cool looking image from a free image website and add a short message. I've even just added "just cuz" to introduce an image. 6. Share an achievement. "Feeling honored... I just got nominated for most helpful business woman in my XYZ Chapter." 7. Share what you're grateful for. "I'm so happy that the power stayed on during that last wind storm. My project's done! How's the weather where you are?" It's Virtually Done, LLC Page 2 Oct 2014

3 8. Did you get a new gadget, buy some software, or uncover a new strategy? "I just bought Snagit, and now it's my favorite screen capture tool. What's yours?" 9. What are you looking forward to? A new season, a trip, a business event, coffee with a colleague. Share. 10. Spark a harmless controversy. "Kirk or Picard?" (referring to Star Trek fans). If you're a music fan maybe "Beatles or Stones?" You get the idea. 11. Snap a shot of your daily life. This could be a shot of your office, an officemate (dog or cat), the view from your office, something interesting that you saw on a walk... you get the idea. 12. TEASE... "I'm working on a new... chapter, webinar, free offer, blog post, or whatever... and can't wait to share it. Stay tuned " 13. Something funny. I bet you laugh every day at something that amuses you. Share it! 14. Walking the Talk. You're an expert at something, and I'll bet you provide your audience with tips (great idea for social media). When you "walk your own talk" and actually do what you're telling others to do, share it. Example, "I just shut down my for 1 hour... and oh I got so much done! What productivity ideas do you do?" Anytime that you can end with a question, so much the better. 15. As it's happening... Are you having coffee with a colleague? Share it in the moment. These types of posts, ideally with a photo, are powerful. 16. Share what you LOVE. People want to get to know the real you. Have a certain TV show that you don't miss? Have a favorite snack food? Look for ideas on your Pinterest account (or someone else's) 17. Share a goal or a dream. There's nothing like accountability to make a dream or goal happen. 4 18. Share the adventure or vacation. It's fine to share a few shots from your vacation. Don't make folks too jealous, but they'll be happy that you're getting a break! 19. When you step out of your comfort zone, let folks know it. "Okay guys... I just invested in a new webinar service, and I'm going to hold my first webinar this month. Wish me luck?" (These kinds of posts can get a lot of action.) 20. Be authentic. Sometimes you might be having a bad day. I'm not a big fan of sharing bad or sad news on Facebook, but you gotta be real. "My heart goes out to the victims of the earthquake in. Sending warm thoughts their way..." 21. Share your excitement/accomplishment. "Woot... just finished my ebook. That took longer than I thought, but it's going to be great. More to come..." 22. Inspire! You can go a long way with this one. We all get discouraged and need encouragement. Consider that you haven't reached all your goals yet, but you're further along than someone else. How can you lift them up? "Well, I'm doing it. I'm pressing send. You can too. Wish me luck!" 23. Pay it forward. If you're really stumped, check your own social media newsfeed and share what's share-worthy. Be sure and add your own comment and how the information is funny, useful, or important. 24. Pay it forward again. If you can't think about something to share about yourself, how about promoting a colleague or a client in a non-salesy fashion? 25. Get inspiration from others. You have favorite people who you follow on social media, right? See what they post of a personal nature that you really like and get some inspiration from that. 26. What's your hobby? Getting fans and followers is all about sharing who you are and having those folks be attracted to your unique self. Have a quirky hobby? I have a couple, and I share a few photos with my peeps. 5 for a sports team. (Expect rebuttal!) 27. Happy Hump Day! There are all kinds of holidays and every Wednesday is Hump Day and every Friday is TGIF. Now you don't want to say that every week, but you get the idea Share your Expertise... You're an expert at something. Invite your fans/followers to pick your brain a little. You might not want to do this if you re a tax professional and it's April 15, but you could ask, "What's your burning question about. Can I help?" 29. Ask a fill in the blank question. "I love being a business owner, especially setting my own schedule. Your favorite part of owning your own business is." 30. Be current. If you're a news junky like I am, there's always something to comment on that's trending. Need ideas? Head to your Twitter page and see what the most popular hashtags are under "Trends" or search for a hashtag to see what comes up, share it, and add a comment or ask a question. In addition to the "conversational" part of social media that is focused on here, I suggest adding original content (blogs, tips, videos, slideshares, etc.), informational content from experts, entertainment, and the occasional promotion.
