3 Foreword Welcome to the second Product Creation Station lesson! First, thanks for the comments about PCS -- I m really glad it s being received so well. And it s only going to get better and better as we go along. There are so many cool secrets I m looking forward to sharing over the coming weeks of this program that I want to just tell you know. But, we ll get there. =:) I know you can t wait to get started with this week s lesson, but there is something I need to address and announce before we dive in. As I mentioned on the FAQ page at ProductCreationStation.com/faq.html, I simply cannot answer questions related to the lessons. I ll be happy to support anyone having technical needs as always, but I just don t have the time to answer questions related to applying the content of the lessons. Here s why Even if the question is Jay, do you think this is a good idea? and all I did was type in yes or no (which is NOT the length of response you d be looking for) there simply isn t enough time to read and respond to hundreds of them, nor is it a good idea for me to farm it out to some unqualified staffer. Do the math: If it just took ONE MINUTE to read and respond to an , it would take me almost 17 hours to answer 1,000. And that s nothing but yes or no answers. If I spent FIVE MINUTES on each and typed a short paragraph response, it would take over 80 HOURS per week just to answer s. I just can t do it. Now, just to be clear, it s not an issue with the content. I ll always make the content straightforward and understandable and if anything needs clarifying, I ll be happy to do it for the entire group. The type of questions that I am talking about are, Jay, here s my background, which of these markets should I choose? or Jay, what do you think of this chapter for my ebook? or Jay, should I set this up as a PDF or multimedia product? I m talking about specific questions for specific people. I just can t answer them due the volume of members. Page 3
4 But, after thinking things through, I ve decided to create a Product Creation Station Inner Circle personal coaching program for the first 50 members who join. The price is $ per month. For people who are looking at attacking huge niches, such as weight-loss or golf, this could make a big difference in the steps you must take in order to have success in that niche. Page 4
5 Discovering A Lucrative Niche Last week we took a thousand foot view of the product creation process. Over the next four weeks we re going to dive down and go in-depth in each of the areas at which we looked. This week we re going to fid out how to discover a lucrative niche. Even more important, we re going to find out which niche you should get started with......and I ll explain why those aren t going to necessarily be the same nice. What Do I Do?! I was talking with a lady recently who said, "I know there are a lot of opportunities for making money online, but I just don't know what to do!" Can you relate to that? Hey, as much stuff as I do online, I *still* feel the familiar tug of that phrase! Once you've jumped in with both feet, it's really not fun to hit too many singles in a row -- you have to have a home run every once in a while to keep things going. And as many ideas as I have, choosing the "right" one is still really hard sometimes. Okay, so you know there are possibilities, you've probably poked around and one or more of them, but what's keeping you from choosing something and diving in? Is it still just a matter of not knowing which direction to head? Let me see if I can help you get going just a little bit... Have you picked a niche? Do you have a topic of interest that you think you'd be good at promoting? Notice I haven't said anything yet about building a list, putting up a web site, creating an info product, etc. All of that stuff comes *after* you decide what niche you're going to pursue. Page 5
6 But how do you pick that? There are basically three options: 1. Choose something about which you're passionate. 2. Choose something where there's big money to be made. 3. Choose something which is a combination of the two. If you have a passion for something that's also a very lucrative niche, then you're ahead of the game. If not, I'd say go with Number 3 on the list because if you choose something just based on the potential profit, you probably won't stick with it -- it'll be just another job. And if you pick something that's great fun for you but without much chance of succeeding financially, it's just a hobby. For example, I've really been into ventriloquism in my life and would love to do something in that niche. But if you do some research you'll find it's a very (very!) small niche and would be hard to make a significant chunk of change there. At the same time, I know there's big money in the Forex market -- but I have absolutely *no interest* in that, so I'd have to force myself to get things done every step of the way. (Money isn't a big enough draw for me these days -- I had a regular "job" for long enough.) Last Weekʼs Assignment Last week you were supposed to write down 10 things you enjoy. I d like you to take those 10 things and write down next to each one the broader topic it fits into. Here are some examples to show you what I mean: I Like Building Bookshelves Roller Skating Reading Fishing Making Candy Broad Niche Woodworking, Home Improvement Recreation, Sports, Fitness Education, Hobbies Outdoors, Sports, Hobbies Cooking, Home & Family Page 6
7 Doing this exercise will open your eyes to the possibilities available to you no matter what your interests. Many of those niches can be very lucrative. And yes, some of them are very broad -- how do you compete in the fitness niche? -- but there are ways to combat that. If you don't yet have a firm grasp on YOUR NICHE, do the above exercise and see what you can come up with. Don't freak out and think you might pick the "wrong niche." Any niche you pick at this point is better than floundering around and not getting started. Plus, you can always tweak/modify/change your choice later. But if you don't pick one now, you're doomed. Okay, maybe not doomed, but the point is getting started at something non-optimal is better than not starting at all. Your second product will usually be better (and created in less time) than your first product, so getting that first one done is a GOOD thing! Now To The Cool Stuff By this time you may have a firm grasp on your niche, but many people are still struggling. So we re going to bring out the big gun and really narrow it down. You need a piece of software called Sonic Info Riches. You can download it here: Windows: Sonic Info Riches for Windows Mac OSX: Sonic Info Riches for Macintosh Unzip the download file and look for the file called Sonic Info Riches and launch it. Your screen will look like this: Page 7
8 Using Sonic Info Riches I m not going to copy the SIR instructions here -- check out the PDF file that was also unzipped. But you already have a head start with Step 1 -- instead of coming up with 20 ideas, you only have to come up with 10 more because you already have 10 from the assignment you did last week. You ll actually do Steps 1, 2, and 3 in the SIR manual, but you can skip Step 4 if you want because we re going to be doing that in the coming weeks. After you have completed using SIR you should have a topic at the head of your list -- that s what your new info product is going to be about. Pssst! If the 2nd or 3rd places on the list are very close to #1, feel free to pick one of those instead if you think it would be more fun at this point. For people who don t like reading (I hope you got this far!) here s a link to a tutorial video showing how to use the software: Video: Using Sonic Info Riches If you re still struggling to find a niche, Sonic Info Riches will narrow it down for you almost automatically. Fire it up and take it for a stroll and watch what it can do for you. Page 8
9 Summary For some people it s a slam-dunk, but for others choosing a niche can be agonizing. But if you stepped through this lesson you should have a good idea of the niche you re going to explore. In fact, at this point some people will have their main niche chosen and have a couple more waiting in the sidelines. If that s you, make sure you stay focused on your main niche - don t get pulled off course by working on multiple products. Your Assignment This Week If you haven t done it yet, do Steps 1, 2, and 3 in Sonic Info Riches (remember, the instructions are in the PDF file and they re easy to follow). By next week you will need to have your niche picked out -- that s when I show you the cool content secrets that a big-name guru told me I was crazy for just telling people about. =:) Coming Up Next Week... Creating content is one of the most fun parts of product creation -- in part because if you know the secrets, you don t really have to do much of anything to get unique content for your product.
