Then I found blogging and haven t looked back since. In the last 15 years, I ve created dozens of blogs and have earned over 1 million dollars - all through blogging! 4 Introduction Here are the 5 things you need to master in order to become an authority blogger: 1. Design 2. Content 3. Traffic Product 4

6 Blog Design Principles When authority bloggers design their blogs, they keep these design principles in mind: You are creating a brand. Your domain, your colors, your logo, your content and your products all must be consistent. Choose your brand colors. Use this color palette generator to select your brand colors. Get a professionally designed logo. Go on fiverr.com and order a logo for your blog. Keeping it simple. Your design isn t about aesthetics, it s about user behavior. It s about guiding your readers to take one specific action. Get rid of busy sidebars! Don t list your posts on the homepage. Authority bloggers don t list all their blog posts on the homepage, they keep them on a separate blog page. Their homepage is too valuable to just show the latest posts. Make a good first impression. The above-the-fold section of the homepage is the most important part of your blog. Take advantage of it! This is the ideal place to add an optin form. 6
7 Choosing A Theme Newbie bloggers use free themes, authority bloggers use premium themes. Here are some of the advantages of using a premium theme. The theme is responsive. Meaning, it looks great on desktop and mobile. The theme receives updates. If a theme designer is getting paid for their work, it is much more likely to be kept updated. You get support. Mess something up? No problem. Premium themes offer support to help you fix your site. Customization options. You can change the font, color and style of your blog. You do not want your blog to look like everyone else s. Speed. Generally speaking, premium themes are faster than free themes. And speed matters when it comes to your Google ranking. 7

10 Write With A Purpose Before you write anything, you need a plan. Every post you write has to serve a purpose. Before I write a blog post, I make sure my blog post does all of the following: Solves a problem. You need to find your readers pain points and solve their problems. Use quora.com to find the questions the people in your niche are asking. Has search volume. If you write about something nobody is searching Google for, you will get zero traffic and interest in your post. Isn t too competitive. You shouldn t write an article you have no chance to rank for. I use Long Tail Pro to conduct keyword research. Has a lead magnet. The purpose of each article is to get an subscriber. Each article needs a freebie to offer your readers in exchange for their . Has a product I can sell. Every article you write needs a product you can link to. This is either an affiliate link or your own product. 10
11 Write Catchy Headlines Nobody will ever read what you have to say or buy what you have to sell if you don t get the clicks. Here is the formula for generating headlines that drive clicks. Use an odd number at the beginning of your title. Use your exact targeted keywords in the title. Capitalize the first letter of each word. Keep the title between 6 to 9 words in length. Use a superlative. Ie: best, fastest, cleanest, etc. Use a negative superlative. Ie: worst, slowest, etc. Use You or Your to personalize your content. Use powerful words like: simple, secret, innovative, ultimate, powerful, valuable. Identify the content type with brackets such as [infographic], [template], [how-to guide] 11
12 Sell Sell Sell! Bloggers blog for fun. Authority bloggers do it for profit. Which one do you want to be? That s what I thought. Don t be afraid to sell sell sell within your content. Remember: Blogs do not make money, businesses do! I used to write great content, three times per week. I would rarely add an affiliate link, hoping not to turn off my readers. Want to know what I learned? You don t make money that way. The moment I started treating my blog like a business, everything changed. I now insert affiliate links where appropriate, pitch my products and add an optin form in every blog post. The result? More money in my pocket. 12

14 Best Sources Of Traffic Pinterest Pinterest is the easiest to get traffic from. Create pins, join group boards and start pinning! You will need to use Tailwind to maximize your reach. Facebook Ads Notice how I said Facebook Ads instead of Facebook? After 2018 you just can't get traffic to your Facebook posts without paying for it! Twitter Unless you have 10k+ followers (or pay for Twitter ads) it is difficult to get traffic from Twitter. I use Manage Flitter to grow my followers. Google SEO It can take up to 1 year for your blog to get any traffic from Google search. That doesn t mean you should ignore SEO. Install the Yoast SEO plugin and properly optimize your posts. 14
15 Pick ONE Traffic Source Jack of all trades, master of none. Heard of that before? The same principle applies to traffic. There isn t enough time in the day to master every single traffic source. It s just not possible. The solution? Pick ONE traffic source and MASTER it. Which should you pick? It depends on your niche. Fitness stuff is big on Instagram Cooking is a hit on Pinterest Tech stuff is for Twitter Everything else is for Facebook I will say this however: The best quality traffic will come from organic Google search. It s also the hardest type of traffic to get. The lowest quality traffic is from Pinterest. It s also the easiest way to get lots of traffic. Which should you pick? My answer is to choose Pinterest while you work on optimizing your site for conversions. Once you ve got that down, you can branch out into other traffic sources. 15

17 Why You Need An List.. NOW! Your money is in the list I m sure you ve heard that before time and time again. The reason you keep hearing that is because it s true. Your money is going to come from your list. No, not your blog, not your ads, not your links, not your social media profiles. No, your money is going to come from your list. Here s why. Blog traffic comes and goes. At the end of the day your traffic is reset to zero and you have to start all over. SEO traffic is great if you can get it. But one day you re on page 1, the next you could be gone entirely. Social media traffic is amazing when you go viral. But what happens when Facebook only shows your posts when you pay for ads? All those Facebook likes end up being worthless. But ? is forever. is the gift that keeps on giving. 17
18 Set Up Your List Who to use? New bloggers can use Mailchimp to create their first mailing list. But what do authority bloggers do? They use ConvertKit to power their mailing list instead. Regardless of who you use, here is what you need to get started: Lead magnet. Create a freebie to give away to your readers. Make sure it provides real value. Optin forms. I use Thrive Leads to design and integrate my optin forms. Thank you page. Your thank you page is the perfect spot to get your new subscriber to also follow you on social media. All you have to do is ask. Welcome . Your subscriber is most engaged right after they sign up. Don t waste this opportunity! Offer a low-cost product - you have permission. series. It s time to nurture those leads! Most people don t want to open up their wallets until they believe you re an authority. Use your series to provide value. The formula is: give, give, give, then ask. 18

20 You Need Your Own Products To Sell 99% of bloggers use affiliate marketing and display ads as their main source of revenue. What does the other 1% do? Those authority bloggers create their own products (or services) to sell. The case against display ads. Too many ads make your blog look ugly. More and more people use ad-blockers. Your income is entirely dependent on your daily traffic. The ads are often times unrelated to your content. You are relying on a 3rd party company for your livelihood. The case against affiliate marketing. You worked hard to get traffic, now that you have them, you send them to another site instead? Your rate can be changed at any time. The affiliate company can shut down. You are selling someone else s brand when you should be selling your own. The case for creating your own products. You keep 100% of the proceeds, as it should be. You keep the customer and can sell them another product again in the future. Your income is dependent on yourself, and no one else. 20
21 What Can I Sell? What product you create depends on your niche. But here are some popular choices: ebooks ($10-50) These are easy to create, but since there s so much competition, you have to price it pretty low. Courses ($100-$300) You can create an all-video course or a text-only course or a combination of the two. You can host your course on Teachable.com or offer it as a pdf. The difference between a course and an ebook is that a course is broken down into lessons and includes worksheets. Coaching ($200-$500) Offer a more personalized experience with 1 on 1 coaching services. You can communicate with your students via Skype. You can charge per call or per month. Consultations ($1,000+) Offering consultations is reserved for those who can provide a high-end product at a premium price. 21
22 Blogging Tools Here s a list of blogging tools you will NEED to take your blog to the next level. I personally use these tools daily. Monster Insights - This is a stats plugin where you can see which content performs best. It helps you decide what type of content you should be creating. Tailwind - Pinterest is a huge traffic source for me! I schedule my pins through Tailwind and have it run on auto-pilot. It s a game-changer for me. Social Warfare - This is the plugin I use for my social sharing buttons. It loads super fast and it s pretty. Convert Kit - Build an list like an authority blogger. Thrive Leads - Growing an list is so easy with this plugin! I can create awesome pre-designed optin forms that help me get tons of new subscribers every day. Long Tail Pro - Before you write a blog post, you first need to do keyword research. Otherwise, you might be writing something nobody ever searches for. Canva - I design my lead magnets and courses all on Canva (it s free too!). 2 2
