3 Make Easy Money With Coloring Books Some people think coloring books are a fad and they aren t entirely wrong. They aren t entirely right, either. I know that s a confusing set of statements, but hear me out for a just a moment. Adult coloring books are here to stay. They have been, and will be, immensely popular for a long time. They reduce stress, help people focus, assist with lifting depression, encourage creation and build hand-eye coordination. They also build artistic skill, which can have other side benefits. They aren t going anywhere. Herein lies the rub, though. You can find endless, free coloring book pages just about anywhere online. You, as a coloring book creator, have a load of free competition. And that s just the free stuff. Look on Amazon and you will see endless amounts of competitors all fighting for the same group of customers. Your customers. Thus, as it is now, the competition is stiff and requires a unique product and great marketing to get noticed. But there is a different way to get noticed, a different way to profit off coloring books. By doing it the way I m about to tell you, you will: 1. Eliminate all the competition. 2. Produce a significantly better product that is much higher valued.

4 3. Serve your community and build a lot of goodwill and trust. (Which, in the end, translates into more money) And you will still sell your coloring books on Amazon. What s more, you can also make additional side money with your coloring books by incorporating a little trick as old as mankind has had the written word. In this short little guide, I m going to be showing you how you can work this strategy. I ll include all the relevant bits to get started and point you to some tools that will help make this strategy work even better! Ready? Let s dive in.

5 The Strategy In A Nutshell: Service Your Community The idea is simple: Go take pictures of a local business, non-profit, church, organization, club, school or whatever(with their permission), create a coloring book, then sell copies of your coloring book back to the group you made it from. Here is an example to make it clear: Contact a car dealership and let the owner/manager know that you are creating adult coloring books of local businesses and community members. You want to create a coloring book for them, for free. They just have pictures taken of the location, their employees and the cars. That s it. You then make the coloring book from those pictures and send them a free copy to see the final product. If they decide they want copies to sell/giveaway to customers, employees, promotions, then they can buy them straight from Amazon. All you need from them is approval to take the pictures and sell the coloring book. That s it, or at least the basic gist of it. And This Actually Works? You bet your bottom dollar it works. I ve never heard a story where a business, club or organization has turned the opportunity down.

6 Some businesses and such might not buy any copies of the coloring book, but almost all of them will jump at the opportunity to have a custom made coloring book that can be used to promote their business and without costing them a dime. (Except the copies of the coloring book of course.) Businesses, non-profits and clubs love it because: 1. It is a custom representation of their business. 2. It s freaking cool. Custom work of a coloring book? RAD. 3. It s free to have made and cheap to buy the final product. 4. It makes them look hip and cool. The only thing? You have to make the coloring book! But that s not difficult if you know what you re doing. I m going to show you a tool you can use that will instantly convert these pictures into coloring book pages so you don t have to screw with it. I m also going to show you a tool you can use to bind the coloring book together you then just upload the PDF to CreateSpace, get your sample copy, show the business and you re off to the races. But before we do that, let s go over the basic steps to making this work: 1. Contact the business or organization. 2. Get them to agree to the picture taking.

7 3. Convert pictures to coloring book. 4. Upload to CreateSpace. 5. Deliver the Sample to the Business/Organization get them to buy a few copies (Supply an ideas manual that helps encourage them to buy copies to use in their business) 6. Collect the cash. 7. Use alternative methods to make even more money. (I ll explain at the end) Let s go over each step.

8 Step 1: Contact the Business and Get Them to Agree This is easy. Pick a business and give it a go. You can either call or go into the business. I recommend going into the business if possible, and bringing a sample coloring book to show the owner/manager. (More on this in a minute) I ll give you a simple script you can use that gets an easy yes: Howdy (Owner/Manager), my name is (name) and I m a local artist. My current project is producing adult coloring books of the local community. Historic buildings, parks, houses, churches, local businesses, and people. Have you seen an adult coloring book? (Show example) I would like to make a coloring book from your business. It costs you absolutely nothing to have made, and will not take up any of your time. All I need is permission from you to come in and take pictures of: - The building (if applicable) - The people (with their permission) - Customers (with permission) - And anything else you would like to have in the coloring book (Logos, technology, products, etc.) You can go about your work day while I take the pictures. I won t interfere in the operation of your business and this won t take more than an hour or two to get all the pictures I need.

9 When the coloring book is finished, I ll drop off a single copy so you can see it. If you decide you want more copies, to say, give to customers or to use for promotion, or to sell yourself, you can let me know and we can order them. That is how I make my money, when you buy copies of the coloring book. If you decide you don t want any copies, that s fine! So there isn t any cost to you. When can we schedule a time for me to come in and get the pictures? This works extremely well, especially if you bring in a sample. Where do you get a sample? Simple! Go and take pictures of public historical buildings, the park, a landmark, and areas around town, turn it into a coloring book and bring it in with you! Even better, if you have a coloring book from a COMPETITOR in town (the dealership across town, that other restaurant, etc.), they will want to jump on board. But What if They Don t Buy Copies? Have you heard of this little thing called reciprocation? What about commitment and consistency? See you ve put all this work into creating this awesome, nice coloring book! For free?! Plus, they ve allowed you to do all this work and take all the pictures and it d be a damn shame if they did all this and didn t order a few copies, at least for themselves.

10 Especially when they read about how they can use this coloring book to promote their business and make more money. We ll cover more of this in a bit. For now, let s get into making the coloring book.

11 Step Two: Producing The Coloring Book and Upload This is easy. You don t need a fancy camera the camera on your phone will be enough. The only thing you need to be careful with is poor lighting. If you can, take outdoor shots when it s sunny. For portraits, get close and again, make sure you have plenty of light. Take a LOT of pictures. I would take 200 to 300 if possible. You want as many source pictures as possible to select about 40 to 60 of the best ones. Converting the Pictures Into Line Art You can do this in 3 ways. 1. Manually. Get photoshop (expensive), or gimp (free but difficult to learn) and then figure out how to do it. Once you figure it out, just note it ll take you a least 20 to 30 hours to convert the images. 2. Pay someone to do it. Takes you no time, but expect to pay around 500 bucks to have it done. (Unless you can find really cheap labor) 3. Let my software do it for you for significantly less the price and the time. You can watch the demo here. I don t have enough space to get the specifics of converting images into line art and I have a solution that does it for me for free. (And with a onetime cost to you, it s practically free for all future coloring books once it s paid for itself)

12 Besides just producing the line art from pictures, the other half of the software is the Magic Book Binder, which takes pictures and text and binds it together to make a simple PDF. Just upload to CreateSpace and BAM, finished. So take a look at that software and then let s move on!

13 Step Three: Drop off The Sample and A How-To Use Document This is easy. Take the completed Sample book (the one CreateSpace will mail to you) and drop it off, along with a one or two page document outlining how they can use this new coloring book to promote their business. Put the loose-leaf document IN the coloring book sample, between the introduction and the first coloring book page. This way, they will see it, and likely read it. Include, at the very end, the costs of buying IN BULK, per coloring book. (You decide what bulk is. More on this in a minute) With these two items in hand, you re almost guaranteed sales. Not 100% guaranteed, but if the coloring book turned out well, you should grab sales. See, when you drop off the sample of the coloring book, you include with it a few page summary of ALL the ways they can use the coloring book to make more money. - Increasing the value of whatever it is they are selling. (For example, a car dealership can give away copies to people who buy cars OR let them color while waiting for approvals to buy the car) - Doctor s offices while waiting for appointments - Show off to their friends and family.

14 - Give away to customers to help bring in sales (mail them to people) - Sell them (works especially well with touristy traps or boutique stores) With these ideas in place, they will likely want to buy to use the cool new book they have. And all the goodwill you ve garnered with them will encourage them to spend their money with you. Some Thoughts On Pricing Earlier I mentioned you can send them right to Amazon to purchase. You can do that if you want. Or if you want to make more money 1. Set your Amazon price to your cost to print per book. (Usually 3 to 4 bucks) 2. Ask them to buy through you. They give you an order size, write a check, and you then buy them from Amazon after their check clears. 3. Have the books sent to you and you manually drop them off. 4. Give them a discount for more they buy. Something like this: a. Single orders, up to nine copies, per copy. (You make 10 bucks per copy) b. 10 to 50 orders, per copy (You make 9 bucks a copy)

15 c. 50 to 100 orders, per copy (You make 8 bucks per copy) d. 100+, 9.99 per copy (You make 7 bucks per copy) As you can see, you re making a decent chunk of change. Even if they only order 5 to 10 copies, that s 100 bucks+ in income. If you used my software to convert the images and you only took an hour to take the pictures, that s over 100 bucks in income for an hour or so of your time! And that s only if they buy a low number. If they buy a higher number, such as, say 50 copies, you made 450 bucks for just a few hours of your time. Now, let s say you hit up virtually every business, organization and club in town. In a town of about 10,000, I bet there are at least 20 or 30 places who would jump on board. That s just your town. You could do surrounding towns too. And don t forget reorders! Do this with enough businesses and organizations, and you could set yourself up for a while.

16 Step 4: How to Increase Your Profits There are several ways you can increase your profits. Here are some ideas: 1. Build several local community coloring books, filled with public places, historic buildings and people. Target your town on Facebook and build a FB page for the community. Call it something like (Name of Town) Coloring Books, get likes, show off page examples, and lead to ordering off of amazon. So Charleston IL Coloring Books. Target people who live in the town. Get likes on the page and show off the lake, the college campus, the marching band, the basketball team let them download a few samples and then set them loose on the Amazon order page! (I would charge around per book) Do this for all your surrounding towns. 2. Take out an ad in a newspaper (or again, facebook) that you are an artist who creates coloring books. Target weddings, graduation parties, even funerals anything that s a special event. With this technique, you might charge up front! Depending on the occasion, some people will really pay for this. For example: 250 bucks up front AND sell the coloring books. You make money front AND back! 3. This is a sneaky tactic that works. After you ve gotten several related businesses under your belt (for example, 3 or 4

17 restaurants), tell them you are going to be doing a compilation coloring book where you include several businesses together. They can submit to you a COUPON code to put in the back of the book. Then, all of the businesses order at least 10 to 20 copies and they give them all away to customers, dramatically increasing business at each business. So you sell the SAME coloring book pages, built slightly differently, to the SAME business. You could easily add 50% or more to your bottom line by doing this. As you can see, there are plenty of ideas that you can use to get this going for even more profits. And I likely haven t even covered them all. You just have to make the book. That s it!
