They use many detailed CHECKLISTS. This is done in order to ensure a safe flight. Success in your Mary Kay Business is very similar. This workbook has been designed to help you prepare for your take off, flight and landing. Checklists include: Checklist #1...While You Are Waiting For Your Starter Kit to Arrive Checklist #2 Keeping Product on Your shelf to service your customers Checklist #3...Becoming a Mary Kay PRO. It s a Skills based Business! Checklist #4...Before and After Your Business Debut Checklist #5 Rewards and Becoming a Mary Kay Leader The Mary Kay culture attracts women who share the same values: Faith and family come before career. Women should be praised to success. We do not need territories, because we will not take someone else s customer. Strong values and Strong Work Ethic We will honor the Golden Rule & treat others the way we want to be treated.
3 Lets get started! CHECK LIST #1 1. Take the odometer reading on your vehicle. One of your biggest tax deductions is mileage! Keep a mileage record of your daily MK trips in your datebook or phone. Keep all recipts for any funds spent on your Mary kay business.. Cotton balls, ink pens, ect... a complete list of Mary Kay tax deductions at under Taxes/home office, click on Mary Kay consultant taxes. 2. me right away. This is how our office will know we are using your correct address. Also consider a NEW address if your current one is old and full of spam. jonikoontz@marykay.com 3. Send me a text right away (with your name) and let me know that you communicate that way as well Join me on Social Media. In Section 1 of your spiral notebook, begin your potential customer, hostess and team member contact list. You will build your client base the same way as beauticians, nail techs, doctors and other professionals do. They begin with family and friends, develop a good reputation, and word spreads. To help you gain perspective on how many people you have in your WIDE circle of influence, think in terms of creating an invitation list to a large church wedding. The average large church wedding in America sends out 150 family invitations, which encompasses people inside those households. Don t limit yourself geographically (we do not have territories), nor by how often you interact with that person. Start with your inner circle of friends and expand from there. If someone is in your phone or a social media friend, they should be on your list. EVERY PERSON ALIVE USES WHAT YOU SELL. The average person has 350 Facebook friends alone. If she is an adult female that has skin, she goes on your contact list. Think outside the box and add to this list each day as you meet or think of new people. 6. In the 2nd section of your 3-5 section spiral notebook.. Make a Dream list! This is your life long bucket list. Anything you have ever wanted to accomplish goes on this list. Places you want to travel to, things you want for you and your family, what do you want your finances to look like in 6 months, 1 year, 5 years? Please discuss this with your family too. Its important to dream together! We will discuss these things and goal set on how to make them a reality!
4 CHECK LIST #2 How much inventory do I need and where will I get the financing? After many years in the business it has taught me a lot about this VERY important step. How do YOU want to represent your Store? The Audio Clip you are about to hear shares with you the Important information you will want to know on how to make an educated decision on Inventory, as well as what it means to be a STAR CONSULTANT. Your Product is your Vehicle to reaching your goals and Dreams. 1. GO to my website at and click to enter my site, Then Click on NEW CONULTANT TRAINING there is an audio clip there for you to listen to called inventory audio clip that will explain all of your options. Its about 30 minutes long. There is also a booklet called Ready Set Sell that you can click on to see all of your options if you haven't gotten your starter kit yet. If you have got your starter kit, the booklet is in your kit for you to look at and follow along with. [ if the audio clip does not work for you, please call the hotline number right below the audio clip. It is the same recording.] If you will be making this financial decision with another person, make sure they listen as well. To check your credit score for easy financing options, go to Its totally FREE. CALL ME AS SOON AS YOU HAVE LISTENED TO THE INVENTORY AUDIO CLIP SO WE CAN DISCUSS A SPECIFIC PLAN FOR YOUR BUSINESS. 2. Open a separate MK checking account for your business. Do NOT use the word Mary Kay on your account. You may just want to call it your business account or other name you choose. You will want a debit card on this account to pay for all your MK product and expenses. After you have placed your initial inventory order, you will receive your official Mary Kay pin.
5 Checklist #3 While You Are Waiting For your Starter Kit to Arrive... When does my training start? Right NOW! Be a SELF STARTER and Learn ALL you can! 1. Log on to Enter your consultant number and create a passcode. Review the FIRST STEPS OFFERS. There are lots of goodies waiting for you, including your personal website & your own marykay.com address!! Order your Business Cards and Product Labels. 2. Click the Education Tab at the top of InTouch and select Starter Kit/New Consultant tools. Start with NEW CONSULTANT VIDEO and work your way through each one. All are under 6 minutes! 3. Now that you have an overview, it s time to turn into a professional! SILVER WINGS answers questions you didn t even know you had!! It s fun! It s interactive! It s at YOUR PACE. Want to earn a car, move into leadership or just earn a few extra thousand dollars for your family quickly? Hit SILVER WINGS hard and fast! The faster you learn, THE FASTER YOU MAKE MONEY AND MOVE UP!! (Silver Wings is found under the Education tab). 4.Schedule a Business Debut or First Party/ Skin care class with your Recruiter or Director. The purpose of a debut is to debut your New Store of Products to your friends, family, coworkers and acquaintances. We will be scheduling lots of parties for you as well, selling product, helping you to obtain LOTS of referrals and helping you to identify your first couple of new team members from your debut. This is also a very important step in the New consultant process. 5.Listen to the New consultant debut audio clip under the new consultant training section on to help you better understand the process of what to expect at your debut and follow along with the debut checklist on the next page as you listen to the audio clip. 6.Attend your first success meeting as a NEW BEAUTY consultant! Check with your recruiter or Sales Director on where the meetings are located and what to expect. YOU WILL LOVE OUR SUCCESS MEETINGS THEY ARE LIKE GIRLS NIGHT OUT!!! Your training is very important to your success, You will never want to miss a weekly success event or company function! 7.Go to the Unit website at and Familiarize Yourself with each item on the Main Menu. There are lots of tools available to you on this website. PRINT OFF THE INSTRUCTORS GUIDE INSERTS AND PASTE THEM INTO YOUR INSTRUCTORS GUIDE [ Came in your starter kit] Visit the Training Center section as well. 8.Listen to the CD LONG TERM SUCCESS By National Sales Director Linda Toupin. [ ask your Director about the CD.] This CD Teaches you how to Open and Close Your Parties and How to Book Lots of appointments from your Selling Appointments. Your Instructors guide goes right along with this CD. You will use this at every Party and facial. [ Listen to this CD 10 times] Practice makes Perfect! Text or me when you ve completed ALL 8 steps above to earn a fabulous gift from me!
6 Check List #4 HOW TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS DEBUT Checklist to ensure you have a successful debut of your brand new Mary Kay business! Purpose of the Business Debut: To debut your Mary Kay store of products. To show your family and friends you starting a BUSINESS and will have the product to service them. To debut yourself as a Professional Mary Kay consultant. To book your first faces TO COMPLETE YOUR POWER START Schedule your business debut within your first 2 3 weeks of business. However, if this is not possible, then scheduling a business debut later is better than not scheduling one at all. You will want to plan to have your inventory in stock before your business debut.. IF YOU CANNOT DO A DEBUT WITHIN A TIMELY MANNER, GO AHEAD AND START DOING PRACTICE FACIALS IN THE MEAN TIME AND SHARING THE PRODUCTS WITH OTHERS. No Need to wait till your debut to Begin selling and sharing. Hold your business debut in your home, preferably, because it is a warmer, friendlier, environment. Church fellowship halls, civic halls, apartment club houses or a friend s home are alternate choices. Delegate the task of cleaning your home so your time may be spent on the telephone with your prospective guests and customers. Invite all the people on your Contact List. This should be a minimum of 75 people. (You can expect to attend with proper follow-up.) Send out a minimum of 75 Business Debut Invitations. Sending postcards and Facebook alone will not be effective. After you have mailed your invitations, plan to call each guest personally to invite them. Then FOLLOW UP again hours before your event. You can purchase cute inexpensive invitations for this. ASK YOUR DIRECTOR FOR TEXT SCRIPTS TO HELP YOU FOLLOW UP! Call each guest on your Contact List in Section 2 of your spiral. Keep in mind that your friends and family are not coming to hear your director or recruiter, they are coming to help you. Your attendance will be in direct proportion to the number of guests that you personally speak with 24 hours prior to the event. Remember, if they cannot come to your business debut, you ll want to either schedule an appointment with them to facial them and/or invite them to the next success meeting/ Girls night out. Checklist for the day of the event: Provide Great refreshments. You ll want to delegate the hosting/serving to someone special in your family or a close friend. Keep in mind some people will come just for food so be generous. You shouldn't be the one preparing all the food. Delegate this to someone else so you can spend your time making sure your guests are coming. Mark your datebook with everything that you have going on in your life. Then highlight the times and dates that you have dedicated to your Mary Kay business. Indicate in your datebook your 4 POWER START WEEKS. (30 faces in 30 days) These are the times that you will be holding all of your facials and parties for the next month. Have the following supplies available: pens and profile cards on hand for each guest to complete as they arrive. a money bag with $20 in change. (1 $5, 10 $1 and $5 in coins) Look Books stamped with contact information. sales tickets and a calculator
7 HOW TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS DEBUT _ Supplies. Continue. Wash cloths [ enough for each guest ] - A normal to dry miracle set to use as demo Your recruiter/director will arrive 1/2 hour before the program. She will bring door prizes and help you set up the product display. She ll need a big table. You ll want to arrange the seating in a semi-circle in front of the table where the product display is. Set up a great display for your guests to see, showcasing your products. Best on a black table cloth. [IE.. A Compact filled with colors, satin hands, microdermabrasion, skin care ect ] Relax and have fun with your guests. Your focus should be to schedule your parties for your power start. Let your recruiter/director fill orders and talk to people about the business opportunity. Have enough Hostess packets prepared to give one to each guest at your debut. Hostess packet should include: 1.Hostess Brochure You can find on jonikoontz.com [ UNDER PARTIES AND FACIALS] 2.Outside order sheet [ UNDER PARTIES AND FACIALS] 3.Recruiting Brochure [ UNDER PARTIES AND FACIALS] 4.Mary Kay Look Book WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT DURING THE PROGRAM: All the guests will introduce themselves, tell how long they have known you and their relationship to you, a bit about their family, work, hobbies and what their experience with Mary Kay has been, if any. Your Director or Recruiter will explain the purpose of the event: You will be affirmed in your business by your guests. Your goals will be shared and your guests will know that you will be asking them to help you by having a complimentary facial or Party The recruiter/director will share her I story and her relationship with you. Mary Kay Inc. will be introduced as a top beauty brand of Facial Skin Care and Color Cosmetics in the Nation! No one will actually receive a makeover that day because that is what you ll be offering at their party. This is a show and tell type event.
8 BIG REWARDS ARE HEADING YOUR WAY! CHECK LIST #5 I want you to have a successful business, and I want you to earn rewards along the way! With every step you walk with purpose, you will come one step closer to that goal.
