1 STEP 1: Everything that you draw in is exact. It will be more accurate than you will ever need it to be, All objects drawn on the screen are placed there based on a simple X,Y coordinate system. In this is known as the World Coordinate System (WCS). There is an origin where it begins counting from (0,0). Every object is located in relation to the origin. Figure 1 shows a point located at (9,6). This means that the point is 9 units over in the X-axis and 6 units up in the Y-axis. When you are working with points, X always comes fi rst. The other point shown is (-10,-4). This means that the point is 10 units in the negative X-axis (left) and 4 units in the negative Y-axis (down). STEP 2: When drawing lines at an angle, you have to begin measuring the angle from 0 degrees, which is at the 3 o clock position. If you drew a line at 90 degrees, it would go straight up. The example above (when you move your mouse over it) shows a line drawn at +300 degrees (270+30), or -60 degrees. STEP 3: ABSOLUTE CO-ORDINATES - Using this method, you enter the points as they relate to the origin of the WCS. To enter a point just enter in the exact point as X,Y. RELATIVE CO-ORDINATES - This allows you to enter points in relation to the fi rst point you have entered. After you ve entered one point, the next would be entered This means that will draw a line from the fi rst point to another point relative to the previous point. POLAR CO-ORDINATES - You would use this system if you know that you want to draw a line a certain distance at a particular angle. You would enter this In this case, D is the distance and A is the angle Second Third (2,4) for the first point. Fourth -12, 0 Line 300 degrees or -60 degrees TYPE PL (Polyline). 2 STEP 4 Application Button - This button displays commands for printing, saving, drawing utilities and other non-drawing tool. STEP 5 Quick Access Toolbar - This is for quick access to common commands like New, Open, Save, Plot STEP 6 Filename - The name of the current fi le you are working on. STEP 7 Search Bar - Search for text or the help fi les STEP 8 Ribbon - The Ribbon has most of the commands/tools STEP 9 Tabs - A series of Tabs make up the Ribbon STEP 10 Panels - Contain a group of tools STEP 11 Tools - These are the icons that start the commands STEP 12 Tool Tip - If you hover your mouse over a tool, a tool tip will appear to give your more information. Hold it longer for more info. STEP 13 Drawing Space - These is where you draw your designs. STEP 14 Command line - When you type a command, you will see it here. uses this space to prompt you for information. STEP 15 Status bar - This allows to see and change different modes of drawing such as Ortho, Osnaps, Grid, Otrack, etc. You can right click this area to toggle between icons and text for this area Everyone will develop a way that works best for him or her. In this course, we will primarily be working with the keystroke commands. Both ways work but Icons are slower. If you want to draw a line, you can do it a few ways: 16 STEP 16 At the command line type: LINE (or) L and press the ENTER key. Select the line icon from the DRAW Panel 2

3 STEP 17: Type UNITS_ into the command line_ Set units to be ARCHITECTURAL_Precision is set to 1/8 STEP 18: Save the fi le as a 2004 drawing Class 01 - Auto- CAD.dwg STEP 19: Type LA into the command line to open the layer manager_ Make 15 new layers with the naming convention shown in the example image withe the same colors shown

4 20 STEP 20: Select the A-ELEV-Hidden Layer_Click on Linetype_ Click Load in the Window_select one linetype_type CTRL+A to select all linetypes_ click OK_ Make A-SECT- Hidden, A-PLAN-Hidden, and A-ELEV-Hidden have a linetype of HIDDEN and the A-Construction Lines layer DOTS. STEP 21: type STYLESMANAGER. This opens the plot styles folder. Double Click on ADD A PLOT STYLE. Click NEXT in the next window. STEP 22: select Start from scratch _ click Next STEP 23: select _ color dependant STEP 24: name it: Arch 226 _ click Next STEP 25: select Plot Style Table Editor

5 STEP 26: Select the fi rst Color in the list. Then while holding SHIFT select the last in the list to select all the colors. Toggle their object color to be BLACK Set the Lineweights for colors 1-9 as follows: Color 01 =.1 mm Color 02 =.2 mm Color 03 =.3 mm Color 04 =.5 mm Color 05 =.8 mm Color 06 = 1 mm Color 07 =.09 mm Color 08 = 0 mm Color 09 =.05 mm 26 These lineweights may be edited in the future using this procedure and you can also add more lineweights as well. SAVE this file. You can use this as a blank fi le template if you save it as a different name as well. All the layers will be retained. You also want to save the Plot style to the desktop before shutting down the computer include this fi le with the blank template fi le. Type STYLESMANGER to COPY the arch 226.ctb fi le to the desktop. YOU MUST NOT REMOVE THE.CTB FILE from the folder. Copy it to the desktop for use at another computer. STEP 27: type IMAGEATTACH. You will be prompted to select a fi le. We will select the fl oor plans elevations and sections to be scaled in the drawing. STEP 28: Each image can be placed in the drawing by selecting with the mouse button. Make sure SPECIFY ON SCREEN for the insertion point is checked. Uncheck SCALE. We will scale each drawing in the next few steps

6 30 STEP 29: REPEAT Step 28 for all the images provided at the portal under class 01. STEP 30: Select all the newly placed images. Type IMAGEFRAME. Make sure to toggle the value to 1 if it is already not. This will allow us to select and modify the images with a visible GRIP EDITING frame around each image. STEP 31: type (L) for LINE. Zoom into the top right of the Floor Plan and draw a line between grid lines I-4 and J-4. You should be as careful as possible to place the line at the intersection points STEP 32: Select all the images. (not the line). Type DRAWORDER. Send all images to the BACK. This will allow you to see the line made in the previous step. 31 Reference Length STEP 33: type SCALE type All (objects) _ Enter type 0,0 (base point) _ Enter type R (reference) _ Enter the reference length will be the length of the line you drew. Select one end and then the other to set the reference length. specify new length _ type _ Enter Type Z for Zoom_A for All 33 All of the drawings should be scaled to full size. STEP 34: type DI to check query distance. Select the intersection of J-4 on the fl oor plan and A-4 on the Floor plan. The distance should be as close as possible to

7 STEP 35: type Plot _ Enter change printer/plotter Name: Adobe PDF change Paper size: Tabloid (11x17) change What to plot: Window You will be prompted to defi ne the boundary area that you want to print. Drag over the images you want to plot. Check: CENTER the PLOT change Scale: 1/8 = 1-0 Print Next Class we will use the Paper Space to Define Layouts. PLEASE MAKE A FOLDER WITH THIS TEMPLATE FILE AND YOUR.CTB FILE. THIS WILL ENSURE YOU ALWAYS HAVE A TEMPLATE TO RETURN TO. 35 1/8 = 1 0 7

8 STEP 36: click on this link: click on arch 266 Log-In at the top of the screen STEP 37: for Username: enter your IIT username for Password: enter your IIT username STEP 38: from the dashboard click on Pages please do not create an new pages. You should only see your name in the page list. STEP 39: click on Add Media STEP 40: click on Select Files _ browse for your jpeg fi le (upload only one fi le at a time)

9 STEP 41: click on None, Thumbnail & Insert into Post STEP 42: in the Post editor press the Enter key and type Homework 01 STEP 43: Click on UPDATE PAGE and PREVIEW the CHANGES
