6 Student Directions for Plotting Coordinates Materials Needed: Optional Tools: pencil, eraser, straightedge or ruler, plotting paper or ¼ graph paper or grid paper and the coordinate project (points to plot) mechanical pencil, colored pencils, fine felt tip pens, markers, highlighters 1. Coordinates should be plotted in pencil. 2. Connect each point to the previous point with a straight line using a straightedge or ruler. 3. Points should be connected as they are plotted to avoid confusion. 4. After a point has been plotted, put a check mark next to those coordinates. Do not draw dark lines through the coordinates. You may need to refer to or check that point later on. 5. Once a project has been completed, students may wish to outline the project in color or with a dark line. 6. After the project has been outlined it can be colored. 7. Colored pencils are best because they are not permanent and usually erasable.
